I would definitely suggest trucks be outfitted with a dashcam when traveling in Louisiana. The state has an abundance of attorneys just waiting to sue trucking companies. One says in his commercial: " If you've been hit by a big truck, let me hit them back hard". Another's says: "Trucking companies carry between $750,000.00 to a million dollars of insurance, let me fight for you". Both are blaming large trucks for accidents " due to negligence", when The National Highway Traffic Administration says that 92% of accidents are caused by distracted automobile drivers, usually playing on cell phones and such. I quit driving large trucks because I didn't want to kill someone in an accident that was their fault.
@davidhickssr.73643 жыл бұрын
Thank you Flint Transport, I hate it when a driver gets blamed for an accident that wasn't his fault. There are stupid people that like to do "brake checks" with large trucks. I drove an 18 wheeled "gravel bucket" usually grossing between 90 to 100,00 pounds. The trailer had an air lifted third axle for the extra weight.

I nearly rolled a concrete mixer because of an old lady decided to stop at a yellow light to turn right. The rear-end started to slide to the right, I counter steered, which caused it to raise up on the left wheels. I counter steered in the opposite direction with the same results, different side. I was able to finally keep it upright by counter steering a little less until all wheels were back on the ground. A State Police officer saw the whole thing, he went on his way after seeing that. It was scary.

Yeah, clearly a tire failure. Driver is lucky to be alive, those cabs don't hold up to impacts the greatest to keep the trucks light. Inches were the difference for him. And yes school busses on the highway or in town, are a drivers nightmare.

A local guy working for a chip hauler got brake checked and rear ended someone which caused them to get pushed into more traffic which then struck the vehicle head on, they took them to court saying that they got rear ended and that they caused all these injuries and what not. Drivers company showed the dash cam footage of the person brake checking the truck at the last second while cutting another vehicle off to get in front of the truck as well. Not sure what happened after that but I remember people going from being mad at the truck driver for beign careless to being mad at the person who did the brake check for lying and putting other people in danger.

It's raining ( Atlanta I-285) and my load is only 11,000 lbs and we're in a construction zone so no room for swerving right? Thank God I kept it from jack knifing...phew!🙏🏿 But the cops were giving me the cold shoulder until I told'em I had it all on dashcam, and when they saw what happened, I thought we were all going out for beers after work they chatting me up so hard.... LMAO. I use a ROAV dash cam that also has an app so you can pull up the footage right there on the spot. I got a 64GB memory card all off Amazon and it's the best 150.00 bucks I've spent! I live in Wyoming, at the end of January 2018, I had a car catch the burm left by the snow plow and spin out and stop in front of me. I was in a hill and passing slower traffic at the time, and ended up going through the median to the opposite lane of the freeway, after making contact with the car stopping on the median side of the road on the on coming lane. I just side swiped the car and there were no injuries of any of the passengers in the car. I was driving a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia pulling a 53' dry box grossing 38,000 at the time. The dash camera helped get the following too close ticket I received "dismissed". The company's insurance company reimbursed me $1,000 that I spent on a lawyer to handle the situation. The cameras in the truck's are Zonar brand. Within 12 hours of the camera footage being released their insurance company admitted fault and responsibility for the damages to my vehicle. Two weeks later the ticket that I was issued was dismissed. I felt a little intimated at first but now I'm glad that they are there, it saved me money and kept my MVR clear.

Not twice I had to do a EMR break with 40 Tons because road users don't use their head. SD cards are better than those "Cloud" Companies, save your money plus those SD cards can be used in your cellphones and computer. Believe me I have an laptop that can read any SD cards and view it

I was out in the middle of the states on a US Highway (speed limit was 55) many years ago and there was a school bus driver that had a CB, he called out to me and was telling me go around him when it was clear to do so because he didn't want to hold me up. I just told him to let me know when he was going to turn or stop and I would give them plenty of room and try to let the folks behind me see what was going on in front of me. I was driving a company truck at the time and we were only allowed to go screaming down the road at 63 MPH. LOL

I didn't care much for the Samsara ELD. I live in a poor cell area. It wouldn't let me go on duty until I drove into better reception. We had forward facing cameras in our fuel tanker trucks. Rear facing was covered up. The manager can look at real time footage contrary to what Samsara says. I was waiting at the Eisenhower tunnel, parked in front of the Denver Fox tv news crew. My boss sent me a screen shot of my dash cam view of the tunnel, and told me I'm famous now, on Denver TV.

Great dash cam videos. Do you tell your drivers to not make drastic evasive maneuvers for wild life? The families of wildlife don't file lawsuits like the other vehicle occupants who may be impacted by an evasive maneuver or a driver who rolls his truck. Brake safely and minimize the impact force against the cow or deer.

Boss has dash cams connected to the ELD. I have my own camera. If anything happens during the day that I think even has a chance of being questioned at a later date I'm calling the boss, who is the owner, and telling him that he needs to be saving video. But I trust the boss, and he trusts his drivers. Last week, I had the red light cameras light me up. Told the boss that he needs to have a look. The first word he had was " that was one short yellow." Then he said I was 1/3 into the intersection when the light changed, and my speed was 35mph, exactly the speed limit.

My dash cam ended up saving other people months in court for an accident I wasn't even personally involved in. A car going almost 3x the speed limit in town clipped a turning truck and spun t-boning into another truck so hard that it spun that truck 180 degrees. The first thing was the insurance of the second truck was apparently trying to not pay medical bills for the driver by claiming they could have avoided the accident I guess? Video proves there was less then 1 second between impacts due to the speeds involved. Then later one of the families of the 2 people who were in the car (both died almost instantly) tried suing the driver of the first truck, but the case was dropped fairly quickly when there was video proof, not just eye witness statements that the vehicle was going an estimated 70+mph in a 25mph zone.

Dash cams are well worth it. While I don't use a provider, I use a dual facing dash cam on my own and in my trucks with drivers. They have all paid for themselves. 1 driver was citied for using his cell phone with out a headset. Pulled the cam and downloaded it and he was using his Bluetooth clear as day. Went to court and case was dismissed. That ticket alone was 1000 to the driver and 2500 to me. So 350p on fines dismissed ny a 200 dollar dash cam. In DC I had a lady intentionally back into me in rush hour traffic. Cops showed up and reviewed the dash cam footage. Officer noted the time and date stamp was correct and proved the lady had called 911 before she hit me.

A dash cam is one of the best things a driver can have in their trucks today period. Most every ad on TV about lawyers today are talking about big money off truck accidents, and they are so many people that will risk their life and others lives to try and get that money 💰 they will try almost anything, and without that dash cam it's the truckers word against the other people's word and 9 out of 10 times the judge will go against the truckers every time. About 4 years before I came off the road I had a 4 wheeler tried about 3 times to break check my thank GOD I was lucky enough not to have hit him but he ran on up ahead of me and another driver wasn't so lucky, I stopped and stayed until the trooper got there and told him about what he tried to do to me. When the trooper went over to the car the trunk was open a little bit and when the trooper opened the trunk he found 6 5 gallon cans of gas and thank GOD that driver didn't get killed or charged. Even though I am not an OTR driver anymore you can bet I have a camera in my pickup and my car and a GoPro on my bike

Then I had another rig pull in front of me no where to go couldn't stop fully loaded flatbed I pulled to left into turn lane and passed him they said I was being aggressive I was on the brakes seen I was still about to hit truck took turn lane and they wrote me up for it...

you can have cameras fitted to the rear of the truck also... a little trickier with semi's (cables? wifi? bluetooth?) but could be worth looking into. i know of several incidents in the UK where stationary trucks have been rear-ended and then the driver accused of rolling back into them. There is a culture in the UK of truck drivers are guilty until proven innocent! One i remember, many years back before camera tech, a fully loaded tractor trailer broke down in town on top of a traffic lit junction. it sat there for several hours before an old lady decided to smash into the rear end, immediately claiming the truck rolled back into her. if it wasnt for the fact the local police were aware of the truck and were on site at the time, the truck deriver would have been held responsible initially

Instead of paying a company for access to your video I would recommend looking into the DVR system like transit busses have. You can have multiple cameras so forward facing plus outside rear facing so it captures the people trying to share a lane with your trucks and it puts it into a DVR that stores it for two weeks cans gives the driver the ability to save a few seconds of video for you to view by the push of a button

So far it has been OK; seems to use more power from the vehicle, as the 12V is always hot, so it doesn't turn off... but as an insurance it's cheap! I am more worried about someone rear-ending me, which is why I like the rear camera.

I hear everybody say stab the throttle, steer, etc. Like a diesel has the kind of throttle response like a car to counter the drop, come on now. I'd liken having a steer let go at highway speeds to dancing with a fat girl on a greasy floor, she's leading and you have no option but to hold on for dear life and hope the song ends quickly! Then they look to see what the driver could have done to avoid the accident. Even though it's been proven that 90 something % of accidents are caused by the other vehicles involved. As a professional driver I expected everyone around me to end up doing something stupid to cause an accident, so when they did it wasn't that much of a surprise to me. After about 6-8 months of OTR, I could almost pick them out of the crowd but I never let that relax my way of thinking. I did 3 years OTR then another several years of local gigs, part time for different companies and never was involved in an accident. I had a 4 wheeler sideswipe my passenger side steer tire in Houston, a heard of cows crossing a back road in Arkansas, a few trucks trying to take off my mirrors, etc. I always wanted a camera to film as I was driving to show my friends and family. I also thought it would have a good thing to have for any of them close calls or in case of an accident. I even talked to the safety department for the company I worked for about having dash cam installed in the trucks but they didn't seem to be interested in my idea. Been sidelined due to medical issues for the last 11 years but I do look forward to getting back behind the wheel driving again. Even though these newer drivers out there are just making the roads a lot more dangerous than I remember them being, doesn't seem to matter what they are driving. Especially them clowns that are in such a big hurry to get around you just so they can brake check you!!

Thankyou !!! And Dash cams are very vital in the trucking industry ! A lot of lawsuits have been avoided !!

@@flintcreektransport You're welcome! Yes sir they are & companies were just starting to use them right before I stopped driving OTR in 2004, e-logs too. I have dash cameras in my personal vehicles now & I will have one when I start driving again.

I hope that your driver with the flat tire in the first footage is okay! Just give eachother more space on the roads and save a lot of money for everyone! Keep on trucking and a lot of safe miles!

Thank God I put front and rear dashcam with the rear facing camera in the back window into our prius because a lady sideswiped us hard enough to knock the prius onto 2 wheels totaling our car. She pulled over behind our car then changed her mind. Dashcam facing the rear got her license plate so the police got her at her home ½ mile away. She had lost her license to drunk driving tickets and had no insurance but because of the dadhcam our insurance was able to pay to replace our car and they are taking her and her mother to court to recover the money they paid us.

100%, I thought my driving was fine until I had one. I watched my footage back and thought 'would my boss find this ok'. Changed my style of driving and the cam got me out of several false accusations. I don't drive a truck, just a small van.

Justin, I like the way you think and enjoy your videos. Been a driver over 40 years and have racked up over 4 and a half million accident free miles. It is getting more and more difficult out there as people drive with less courtesy and patience each year. A dash cam is a must! I have run one for years even in my personal vehicle. Keep up the good work and good videos! Doug Baird.

It never matters if u got dash cam the driver will always be blamed for any crash it's just the way trucking is and insurance companies are forcing u to get them to save their money so don't blow smoke up ppl ass about doing for safety bc it's all about money

This is so true. I see this every day the biggest one I see is at on and off ramps cars just go right in front of you. We just can’t stop like a car. Also I drive a feed truck so at times we can have a high center of gravity if you swerve or steer fast it sure can make your heart skip a beat.

I am 100% a believer in the drive cam systems. So many of my drivers were exonerated because the video cleared them of fault. Really glad to learn that Jay wasn’t seriously injured. That was a violent accident. 🙏🏻

Our trucks have 6 cams each and record 2 weeks of footage. One forward facing, two side cams, one rear facing, one watching the load and one in the cab. Don't be too worried about being watched by the inward facing cam. We are actually glad of them. Shows we are doing nothing wrong.
@simov8chevy3 жыл бұрын
Should also add that the side cams are displayed on a monitor in the cab and show the blind spots when you use the turn signals.

Good to here driver is ok, I have been over a million miles now with one accident, a car merged into me. when I hear a stone tapping on the asphalt I stop and get my flat head out. I have found bolts, rocks even scissors in bedded in Steer tires. Safety first production second. You folks have a nice fleet of trucks, I drive a 379 EXH hauling dairy in Vermont.

Forward facing ok where I have a problem is where companies are watching u all the time . The mega company I drive for put forward facing only in because of the number of crash our drivers were getting in plus we had lots of fraud
