Sadly it's because dentistry for the longest time started off as as a scam that was performed with traveling circus's. A lot more people died than were relieved from these particular dentist. For some reason it still kind of persists today And affects our laws are financing and the way the way we still don't legitimize dental cleaning or treatment. Some will claim that a lot of dental practices and beliefs have not been then pure reviewed or fully studied but don't seem to cause a harmful effect.And it's not that there aren't studies about dental cleanings and practices it's more so kind of like the issue she addressed about mouthwashing before or after brushing your teeth in another video. Even mouthwash will say it can cause cavities.But the reasons why are a little more nuanced and complicated.A lot more research needs to be done to legitimize dental practiceSadly it's also very underfundedBecause people think it's just basic and there's really nothing more to learn about the teeth just clean them scrape them and put floride on them or rip them out. It's more so how legislation looks at what should or shouldn't be funded same thing with the administration and businesses that may be running some research departments. Vision care though has a lot more research and still gets a lot of the same treatment as dental. Like how do we Not need to see and still expect to have a job and manage our lives there are lives especially in the United States where driving is so important for getting anywhere

@Teeth Talk Girl My dentist literally saved me from an early death. He identified some "characteristic" changes in the bone in my jaw that suggested sleep apnea. I got a sleep study based on that and was told I have "moderate to severe" sleep apnea when sleeping on my side and (probably) extremely severe sleep apnea when sleeping on my back. It's a diagnosis that will lead to treatment that extends my life by 20+ years. That dude is a fricken hero as far as I'm concerned!!!! So many of the professionals in your industry perform this kind of service, and based on that I can't help but thank all of you for being awesome!

I recently went and got X-rays, a deep cleaning, a laser treatment, and a crown because of a cracked tooth. I’m so glad I went because I feel so much better after having them cleaned! It’s been a while since I’ve had insurance, and it was really difficult to imagine paying thousands of dollars for something I couldn’t afford anyway. It’s unfortunate that we have to worry about whether or not to take care of our physical needs because we have bills!

@@karinaluna2441 They did! My gums used to be really sensitive and would bleed whenever I flossed/brushed (I also had decay that was the root of this issue). Update: I received my deep cleaning back in January and it was a BREEZE. I ended up switching dentist offices though because I’m not sure I actually needed it. Either way, it was an easy experience. I hope this calms anyone that is feeling anxious. Everything will be fine as long as you have a qualified dentist.

I’ve been to the dentist once in my entire life & it was just a consultation to see how much it would be to fix my teeth. I did that when I was 22. I’m now 28 & I’ve never had a cleaning. This video has terrified me because I have some pretty bad tartar build up on my 4 bottom front teeth. I do plan to get my teeth fixed this year. They’re very crooked & they look dirty even after brushing & flossing and it makes me feel extremely self conscious. I think I will feel 100x better if I even just had teeth that appeared clean. So I agree with a deep cleaning $740 out of pocket. 6 weeks later I went back for free evaluation she said it improved a lot better and is at 3 and few 4mm at most the gum pocket depth and my teeth was polished. However she recommend me to go back after 4 months for a periodontal cleaning instead of 6 months regular cleaning. Also said if my teeth is better after 4 months, I could go back to the regular 6 months regular cleaning.

I need to get a deep cleaning in a few weeks and I am embarrassed about how my teeth got this way. Luckily, the dentist told me I have great bone structure, I just have a lot of plague that's on my teeth and need a deep clean. I know that it won't be terrible and my teeth will feel amazing after, but my nerves are out of control. :(

I went to the dentist every 6 months for cleanings. I floss after every meal. I brush 2 to 3x per day. I literally only have 4 small cavities in my mouth, and yet, I have horrible periodontal disease with bad bone loss around all my molars. I am now going to be having flap surgery with bone grafts on every molar in my mouth. I also have the autoimmune disease, oral Lichen Planus which has attacked my gums and cheeks with horrible blisters and sores keeping my gums very inflamed. Bottom line is, you can still do all those things to care for your teeth, but hormones and a poor diet are the true culprits of this. The better I eat, sticking to a strict whole foods diet instantly tightens my teeth and gums while balancing my hormones. It also stops the Lichen Planus dead in its tracks.

I can not believe that she refused to do regular cleaning and she told me that it won't be any good for you without deep cleaning. $595 is an attractive quote, but I am not comfortable with this dentist for this kind of service.

Joey P 89 Most likely you do need a deep cleaning. If you don’t treat and manage your perio, then yes filling your cavity is pointless. There is no point in restoring your teeth if you’re not going to take care of the foundation, which is your gums and bone bcuz you’re going to end up losing your teeth to gum disease. Always better and easier to treat perio disease earlier on instead of wait for it to get worse, then it becomes much harder to treat.

How long should Periodontal charting take? The hygienist was naming numbers (almost all 4s) out faster than the other tech could input them. The whole thing (3 numbers for each tooth) took maybe almost a minute and while I couldn't see what was going on, it definitely didn't feel like she was pushing the probe into the gums at all teeth... (or nearly any teeth) more like just moving it in front of the gum line and estimating based on maybe a few actual probings in the beginning... Also, I'm advised for a D4346, which of course costs more, isn't preventative and therefore not covered 100%, and uses up some of my max. But I didn't have bleeding and the gums don't "look" inflamed. This seems to be a way to capture funds to justify a deep cleaning, rather than just doing what's needed and billing D1110. I'd rather they just bill (2) D1110s as separate appointments for half the mouth each appointment... that way they get paid more but it stays "preventative".

I also hate going to the dentist. In order to avoid doing so, I recommend you floss regularly and maybe use a waterpik. I follow Mercola's advice on water + hydrogen peroxide irrigation and brush with baking soda or diatomaceous earth. I can get rid of all of the plaque myself. Don't eat sugar and processed food and you won't get any plaque to begin with. These days it can cost $800,000 to get through dental school. The dentists have to pay this off somehow, so one can imagine they beef up some treatments in order to pay off the loans.

Hi there! I have a question. I went to a new dentist recently for what I thought was a routine cleaning. He looked at my x-rays and said there were like 3 or 4 teeth that had tartar below the gum line (one even being supposedly 6 mm though he didn't do the probe). But here's the weird thing: I've had deep cleanings many, many times before (unfortunately) and in every one of those instances, my gums were already in a state of bleeding constantly. However, I've improved since then and have brushed and flossed a lot better and so now I do't get bleeding. In fact, I tried to brush and floss pretty hard just to get really deep in there and STILL no blood. This makes me suspicious of this guy. So my questions are: 1) Is it necessary to have a deep cleaning when you have no bleeding whatsoever? 2) If I DO need to get a deep cleaning, do I need to do so for my ENTIRE mouth considering that he stated there's only like 4 teeth that supposedly have deep pockets?
@jessicabond1084
@jessicabond1084 6 жыл бұрын
Bleeding indicates there's active infection and inflammation in the tissues, so theoretically there wouldn't be active disease if there's no bleeding, and insurance doesn't usually pay if no bleeding is marked in the charting. But if the hygienist can feel tartar in those deeper pockets, you would need SRP to get it removed. If it's only a couple teeth, I imagine you'd probably just need localized SRP in those areas.
@jessicabond1084
@jessicabond1084 6 жыл бұрын
Also, the doctor or hygienist should probe in order to treatment plan correctly for the SRP, but if you have a pocket that's as deep as a 6, it would be visible on an xray, along with the tartar.

What is the full name called of the Perio Graph? that measures the gums line to the bone level? If the bone level is below the middle level of all the teeth, it will make the Millimeters a 4 or 5 because of the prior bone loss. What I mean is your gums and teeth can be 100% good but since you have minor bone lose which the bone level is below the midway level point of the teeth the millimeters probing depths will be 4 or 5 because of the bone loss? This can be a "false Positive" to tell a customer they need a deep cleaning when really they don't because its just prior bone loss even if their gums and teeth are 100% good? What I mean is that Millimeter probing depth numbers that are 4 or 5 can give False Positive results by thinking the customer needs a deep cleaning when really they don't. Is this True or False?

Hi there! Sometimes it is indicated with certain heart conditions, for example, that premeds are needed for dental cleanings. Filling out the medical history is critical at the dentist, so we can best determine if you're someone who requires premeds. Also, talking with your GP about this, is a great idea also! Hope this helps!

I noticed that my gum is kind of loose in one area, should I contact my dentist for a deep cleaning? Will that “tighten” my gum around the tooth?

You didn't mention the difference between prophylaxis and periodontal maintenance. I've been paying for the latter ever since I starting having gum problems several years ago. Please explain the difference between the two procedures and how much each procedure should cost. In other words, how much does each procedure cost in the office where you work.

Great video idea! I tried to make this a simple video for the "new patient" periodontal exam. But, I will definitely consider making a more broad "different types of cleanings" video with mentions of price differences. Thank you again!

Hi just came across your KZbin channel, this was a great and informative video. I would like to request if you can do a video on antimicrobials CHX Periochip and Antibiotic Arestin. Which one do you prefer, and why.

How come a lot of cavities don't show up on x-rays. I've literally had them X-ray me not find a cavity but then when they went to either replace a filling or actually looked in my mouth they saw cavity and drilled.. I've always wondered if maybe one of those cavities wasn't just something they saw . Like at 1 point they said point they said that there was a cavity right on the edge of one of my teeth but almost between them . So they went ahead and drilled but nothing showed up on the x-rays like they actually argued about it with each other for a bit. I kind of get with fillings as maybe they show up on an X-ray and if a cavity starting to form underneath it May not show. But I've seen many times where cavities just are not detected on x-rays even when they're already hurting and causing sensitivity to the patient

Hi, is Biolase laser cleaning necessary for deep cleaning? It costs another $400-500 extra just for using laser cleaning.

I dread going to the Dentist (sorry just had few bad experience) but with my upper back teeth both side starting to give me pain while eating I had mo choice. This time I went to the new Dentist and she was amazing. Treated my aching tooth and also did deep cleaning at the same time (commenting few tines that I have beautiful teeth. But now my lower back teeth feel sensitive when eating... I did feel a sharp shooting pain (current) when she was cleaning that tooth. I am willing to give it few days to go back to normal cause they were never a problem before. Should I be worried? Cause it is making eating a dreadful experience now😣

What is your opinion on Arestin? Have you ever worked with it, if so what were the results? I've had full SRP before and dont think it was even on th he market back then. I'm going for another full SRP in about a month or so and going ahead with the Arestin treatment aswell.

i just went to the dentist and they said i needed this done. they are charging $1,250. They said that's with it 20% off. Is that standard ? My health insurance does not cover dental. I'm in the South Florida area so things here are a bit more expensive in general, let me know what you think. Thank you for the video.

unfortunately yes - deep cleanings can be around $200 per quadrant (give or take that's a huge estimate) but you have 4 quadrants in your mouth so for the full mouth it's not unheard of to be around that ballpark.
