You're a good messenger Whitney. I consider my dentist the most important health care professional I have.

A big lie on social media with a certain retired dentist is telling people if they use her system of mouthwashes people won't need a deep cleaning. She claims that Listerine with Closys and ACT and crest toothpaste will remove tarter/calculus under the gums within 3 to 6 months. I tried this and ended up with an emergency deep clean because things got worse. This is insane and many people are canceling their deep cleanings believing this. Maybe a video on, 'can mouthwashes get rid of calculus under your gums' is warranted. I feel bad for people who are believing this. My teeth are going to be fine after an easy deep clean now but so many will end up with ruined teeth believing such things. She also says flossing will cause gums to get worse if a person has pocketing. Maybe another video on, "does flossing cause gums to get worse' video would help too. I don't know why this is even allowed on YT. Your info is good and based on reality which help counter act such false claims.

From the beginning, it seemed strange to me that the person you described even suggested several mouthwashes, while cardiologists advised against using them. My dentist recommends flossing, regular professional cleaning of teeth in the office and, depending on the test results, other treatments, plus, of course, daily brushing. What the person you described says sounds nice, but usually such things turn out to be too good to be true.

I know exactly who you're talking about, and it's crazy how the misinformation pops up to the top of search results! I came across a few of her videos myself. It's hard as a lay person to sort through all of this.

ahhhh yes I've had people ask me about this... makes me so sad hearing that people make money from ruining people's teeth (by having them purchase their "system" or "products" that claim to do everything opposite of what evidence shows). dental health is so important -- and I just finished studying health communication focusing on "dental health misinformation" during my master's program. I'm hoping to start creating content for people to better navigate online! stay tuned! as far as those video ideas -- YESSS! adding to my list now! thank you so much. and thank you for bringing awareness to this difficult topic by sharing your story. means more than you know! spreading evidence-based health information one video at a time!!!

The only interesting thing about her system is the use of xylotol, the rest is crap
@kingal.45757 ай бұрын
@@arjcjfjej I have been using Finnish xylitol for many years to sweeten drinks sometimes, not routinely. Xylitol has some health-promoting properties - when used in reasonable amounts. It is also used in many toothpastes. And I don't know if her candies contain Finnish or Chinese xylitol (of questionable quality). When I buy pure xylitol in loose form, I know the country of origin. Finnish xylitol is obtained from trees, and in China there are quite few birches, so xylitol is often obtained from GMO corn.

Hi there and I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm 55 and inhereited "soft" teeth. I have many crowns and fillings and I am very diligent with my dental hygiene and go every six mos. I had my appointment yesterday and there are no cavities or infection but they did the gum measurements and told me I had a few 4 and three 5's. They told me I need my whole mouth root planed. Can't they just treat the areas of concern as most of my measurements were 2-3. The cost was off the charts. Without insurance it would be $2,100. With my insurance it is $646 and I told them I need a payment plan. I'm glad I found your channel as I feel you are honest and very ethical. I would appreciate your response and thank you for your time. I just don't understand why they would recommend my whole mouth if only a few areas have the deeper pockets.😥
@fluffykitten992Ай бұрын
Just tell them you want the areas of concern done for the time being maybe they recommend the whole month for preventative measures while there doing it anyway
@sallyruss4574Ай бұрын
@@fluffykitten992 Thank you for responding to me. I really enjoy your videos and greately appreciate your time responding. Unfortunately they are unable to spot deep clean because it won't pay out from the insurance company since it's only a couple of spots. They said if there is a 4 or 5 pocket, even one I qualify for a deep cleaning and they get paid out for a full mouth cleaning when I don't need it. Another dentist posted a video about doing deep cleaning on teeth that don't need it and the procedure can actually damage healthy gums. Thank you for your videos!

The problem with Deep Cleanings is that they average $1200 each time you have them cleaned. Also, most dental plans consider this MAJOR service and will only cover about 60% of total costs and that's only until you reach your maximum benefits. (Usually just one visit's worth.) Then you have to pay 100% of the $1200 each and every time for 1 to 2 years. For life! And most dentists want you to have this done 3 to 4 times a year and will REFUSE to give you a basic cleaning at all. Now you know the truth!
@Keep-on-ok2 ай бұрын
That happened to me today. I had a deep cleaning 4 months ago and today they wanted to do another deep cleaning. I refused and they would not do a regular cleaning. They said I had periodontal disease and referred me to a specialist. I have no tooth pain, my gums are healthy and don’t bleed. I plan to go back to my previous dentist.

I have a question. So I do have some bone loss due to clenching my teeth when sleeping. And I was wondering that if I ever am able to get braces one day (because I need them) can you still get braces with bone loss? Or will they just yank my teeth out lol. my case isn’t severe or anything but I was just wondering.

Went for a deep cleaning, hygienist did a basic cleaning and there's still tartar left in some places even though I pointed it out to the hygienist before starting. And the hygienist chipped 2 of my front lower teeth.
@kingal.45757 ай бұрын
Very strange, in my country, deep cleaning is only performed by a dentist under local anesthesia, and I have had standard dental cleanings many times (once a year) carried out by qualified dental hygienists. My teeth always looked better afterward. Have you found yourself in a very suspicious office with very poor equipment? To perform standard cleaning, ultrasonic devices are used, so there is a very low possibility of anyone getting hurt.

@@kingal.4575 I went to a new dentist for the first time, in the UK dentist appointments are impossible to get it seems. He did an x-ray and saw gum inflammation so he didn't even bother doing a cleaning, he just told me to book a deep cleaning with the hygienist that comes in on Wednesdays. Got an appointment a month later and then the appointment was as I described above. It just seemed like a simple cleaning, no cleaning under the gum line where I know there is tartar on a couple of teeth and there is still some inflammation. So I was charged for the initial dental appointment and the second appointment with the hygienist.

I subscribe a few days ago because i think your channel is really good! I got diagnosed with starting periodontitis..3 tooths with 6mm other teeths are 4-5 some 3mm. I bought a water flosser now. But can you use a water flosser immediately after eaying? My hygienst told me to use those little brushes and a elctric tooth brush so i got thode to immediately but she dint say anything about the waterpik.... Bought that after wachting your channel. Bought the same on as you. Is it a good idea to spray he water directly in the pockets to? Or only on the gum line. Thank you in advance ❤

Have you had it done? If you didnt would you be worried to get it done? Can you get a regular cleaning every 4 months?
@TeethTalk7 ай бұрын
Never had it done -- but if I needed it, I would get it done asap because I know how important it is to save teeth in the long run. Then I would continue with regular cleanings more frequently than every 6 months. Hope this helps!
