Well of course you have never done any of these job and really know nothing about them. In the 80s, all these jobs were done by Americans. Some white, some black and legal Mexicans. Then, the waves of illegal immigrants. They would under cut the prices. They didn't pay taxes or have workman's comp. So legitimate companies could not compete. They had to do it illegal or close. Most closed. The workers that were making decent money either quit or did commercial jobs that the illegals couldn't get licenses to do. It easy to spout off when you don't have a clue what your talking about. My father-in- law was a concrete finisher. Making $20. a hour which was good pay back them. 5 years later he was making $15. a hour. Most start there own company and don't have licenses, workers comp and don't pay taxes. It's easier to be cheaper when you don't have the same rules. They do work hard. You never see them standing on the corner begging for money.

I agree with you. That's why managers and directors need to be arrested for hiring illegal immigrants. They encourage this immigration by hiring. However, the government only arrested the illegal workers and NOT MANAGERS OR DIRECTORS. By doing so this only encourages MORE hiring of illegals, not the other way around. If there is no penalty for such practices, they will keep happening. The illegal want to work, they work hard, but arresting only them does nothing to curb illegal immigration.

Right what our company does is get them in as temp workers for all our hotels many citizens who did this work promoting within and intern prep cooks are no more. When I moved to Texas in 1978, I worked in the blazing sun framing houses right along side Mexican crews. We would good naturedly heckle each other. I've never bought into "they do work I wouldn't do". I've worked as a technical designer, but I also worked as an oil field hand. I've designed websites and I've worked in corn fields. It's not like these guys can come up from Mexico with no English and start hitting the internet job boards. They take the work that they see and that is available to them and that their friends and relatives do. I've also been unemployed and sought the work "that they do" and got turned away because I was an anglo. It's a culture thing, very nuanced. Texas thrives on Mexican labor and legal or not, they pay billions in sales tax and other taxes.

Actually I as an Arabic doctor trying to go to US for several years now, I find it very unfair for other immigrants from all over the world to see that mexicans can achieve thier American dream very easily only by crossing the border whatever their education or work experience! Only because they are America's neighbors! But a lot of other foreign immigrants are highly educated or highly experienced workers and they suffer very much to get there! Sorry to break it to you but it is not easy. They come here leave everything behind with not even a dollar in their pockets. They work in the fields, construction, clean houses, mow-lawns, etc. They do not come into America with Phds or a high education. They come here to work jobs no one is willing to do, its not easy either, they have to walk in the heat to get to the border and have a high chance of getting caught. It might seem "easy" from a foreigner who isn't Mexican but is it not easy. Working long shifts in the heat and doing a lot of lifting gets your body messed up over time. There's people who do not get paid for their work and the person gets away with it because they are afraid to go to the police because they might get deported.

If employers can't make a profit by operating their business in compliance with our laws they should file for bankruptcy or move their business to another country. These legal foundations are what prevents this country from turning into the same banana republic these immigrants are fleeing from. The US does have it's own temporary foreign worker program to accomodate temporary labor shortages. The problem is these contractors and businesses want to circumvent the checks and balances of the system and the penalties for violations are so minimal that they figure it's still worth taking the risk to hire these people.

Here's the take from a former worker. If there is a wage in building at $20/hr for an 8 hr day with potential to raise to $30-$40/hr after learning the trade. Now an illegal will be happy with the $20/hr and won't really complain. Even if they learn the trade they will stay at the same wage and the boss will probably give them outside work(small jobs) to justify his conscience. Rhythm in work is also thrown out the window and so are job site requirements like safety.

I feel like having illegas as a hiring option, keeps companies pay low. At the turkey/chicken plants in Minnesota they hire lots of illegals. It keeps costs down because American citizens won't do those jobs for $12- $13 an hour. I worked at one of these plants and left as soon as I found a better paying job. If they would of paid me $18-$20 an hour I would of stayed, since they can hire illegals for lower wages why would they pay me more for the same work?
