Here before your viral, I recently watched bokura ga it’s….and I’m just like what. The way they don’t touch on that one scene where yano smacks nana(exgf) because she met up with her ex? Like I’m confused on why nobody batted an eye. Also, his emotional baggage was constantly in the way of their relationship which should’ve made them automatically NOT be together. OH AND I AGREE! Takahashi is SO UNLIKEABLE. Hated her need to constantly compare herself to his ex and ask the most out of pocket questions and expect him to remain neutral and not get uncomfortable.

Totally agree, Takahashi was frustrating to watch!

Both were very relatable to me as a teen. Pretty realistic in many ways. Kimi no tadoke has high autism relatability as Sawako struggles with things social ques and sarcasm and has to go on a journey to make herself understood. I wouldn't say she lives to get a boyfriend, more that he was the first one to try to understand her and in a way was her first friend. Bokura ga ita...dear lord my second really relationship was similar. No one died thank god but a partner who wasn't over his first love, had a sexual history he hadn't confronted and truma he hadn't delt with and there was me, a bit more naive struggling to be supportive and also advocate for my own support. Also Thanks kinda BPD like tendencies and issues with his mother were pretty relatable to me as a teen. And if course, some stuff thats not so relatable. My guy never smacked anyone for example and if he did that would be relationship over. But im sure for some others it might be Honestly, for me at least both were pretty realistic and relatable. Kimi no tadoke seemed to be much more about hopefulness and growth where as Bokura ga ita seemed to be more about putting a hand on your shoulder and says 'thats rough buddy' 😂 Recently watched them back as an adult and my heart goes out to all the teens out there figuring things out. Also, after my time skip we stayed together. Both worked on ourselves separately and as a team. Still madly in love 💖

But honestly, Bokura ga ita wasn't supposed to be a teaching experience or something to look up to. More just relatable. I know for sure while I could be a Sawako, I could also be very insecure like Takahashi. Stuff was complicated and my brain wasn't fully developed. What can I say? Your teens are for learning and growing.

Definitely agree on what you said about Bokura ga Ita being enjoyable if you don't watch it critically. It reminds me of a soap opera. Sometimes in high school people really do get *that* dramatic about things (I saw quite a few girls throughout my high school life who acted a lot like Takahashi), but I find Kimi ni Todoke with the misunderstandings to be SO much more ubiquitous. Even though people expressed their frustration with how long it takes for the relationship to develop (and I myself found the scene I'm about to talk about really frustrating) when Kazehaya and Sawako confess only to believe they both were rejected, it makes sense because they both have their insecurities! Kenta and Kurumi were basically catalysts for the main characters to finally prioritize confessing their feelings to each other. It got annoying irl seeing so many friends and acquaintances who obviously liked each other taking months to finally stop beating around the bush.

I loved Bokura Ga Ita, it's my favorite manga. It's a shame they didn't animate the whole manga... There's a 10 year skip scene.

It’s kinda sad that you think Takahashi is unlikeable just because she is very insecure. Idk, I just remember being a teenager and being just as insecure and believing I wasn’t worth anything or didn’t deserve to have what I wanted. I have gotten better about it now that I’m older, but I always feel bad for people who are still in that self-destructive cycle. Obviously this doesn’t mean that I support her insecurities and what she does about it, but I can understand it lol and welp we have very different tastes, I much prefer Bokura ga Ita (maybe because I can resonate with the struggles of the characters WAY MORE than Kimi ni Todoke? Idk).

I agree with you. I resonated with Takahashi because I had an abusive childhood and was criticized for my looks so by the time I was dating, I was incredibly insecure. It felt like my friends were as well and it seems like a very valid teenage phase. I also feel like its one of the first shoujos I've seen include teenage sex, which in my area happens a lot, so it felt more realistic as an anime too. I personally really liked her as a character because I resonated with her and I think it's natural for her to feel so insecure in comparison with Nana, who is an older girl with experience that has become an ethereal icon with her passing. I think the manga also fleshes out her character development as well and the drawings in it with her reactions make her more charming. But in the end we can probably just say we all have different preferences with our perspectives.

Just watching now, I don’t fault Takeuchi ( I think he owed it to himself to confess at some point). The main two love interests were both annoying to me honestly. Yano felt so insincere the whole time and acted like it was some game when it was painfully obvious that the main girl was insecure. As for the main girl she was very superficial and insecure, kept whining about him being too handsome and cool for her meanwhile if she just had some self confidence she probably would’ve found someone who treats her better within 6ft of her. Seeing as how she’s the cute innocent type in Japan she would’ve had little shortage of admirers if she grew a backbone 😂

A Lull in the Sea doesn’t have a love “triangle” as much as it has a love WEB with how mixed up the attractions were. It was A Midsummer Night’s Dream level of ridiculous relationship confusion that was extremely stressful to watch.

Have you watched "Maison Ikkoku" ? 😊 It is a wonderful comedy romance anime from the 80s. It is a masterpiece. And it has a love triangle, but it is not bad at all.

Do the love triangle in Zettai Kareshi (Absolute Boyfriend) I think that was the best love triangle as Both Knight and Soshi were great boyfriend material. I didn't watch the Korean live action because Knight was every woman's ideal man, and in the manga he was Riko's ideal. Which makes the ending of the manga, pointless.
