Hi everyone, I often get asked about Pololish people's character and personality and one things that is quite prevalent is the way emotions are felt, processed and expressed. As a latino, at the beginning of me coming to Poland, it was always a bit interesting to me how people here seemed quite angry, as the years have gone by I've learned a thing or two about Poles and on this episode I am trying to answer the question: ARE POLISH PEOPLE ANGRY?
Feel free to comment below and express your opinions!
Pozdrawiam!

I lived in Poland and now live in the Netherlands. Maybe it's because I came originally from Russia, but i don't fully understand the stereotype about Polish unwellkomness and lack of smile. When I moved to Poland I noticed that Polish are more friendly than Russians. And even to compare to Holland, where I am now, Polish don't seem angry. It is quite weird perception of Poland. Either you see what you want to see, or just got too much "smile-overdose" in the US:)

@@user-tv5ji3uj7k Poles are RESERVED. you go to Sweden, and people will also be reserved and aloof if they don't know you. if they know you and like you, they will be very warm and welcoming. Same in Poland. Very different culture than in USA with its plastic, FAKE "hi how are you" and fake plastic smile on face.

I definitely agree on the trust issue, I always tell my friends from outside the country. A Pole has two faces, private and public. That's why they say we don't smile. The public face is neutral in expression, it observes, evaluates, and analyzes. Most often, it takes a lot of time and "trials" for the Pole to lower his guard and let you get closer. Sometimes it's like meeting a new, different person. but you should remember one thing by gaining a Pole's trust, you gain a new family member-literally.

I think it's because to us Poles emotions are more private thing. They're like taboo in public and only shown between friends. We also tend to not show how we feel even to the closest ones which might be seen as this "heart-coldness".

That's right, our trust issues have to do a lot with history. Possibly peoples lives depended on loyalty and how thuthful someone was. Personally being a Pole I do have trust issues but to be honest it worked for me. Honestly when I meet somene and that person i "so nice" automaticly a red light in my head turns on saying watch it its to good to be true😅

Przyjechałam do Polski że względu na sytuację rodzinną.44 lata temu wyjechałam do aJaponii,w której mieszkaliśmy 16 lat, potem były inne kraje.Przylecialam z pięknych,słonecznych Hawajów ,uśmiechniętych ludzi, przyjaźnie nastawionych do siebie i turystów z całego świata.Po 44 latach przyjechałam i przeżylam SZOK!!!! Ludzie bez uśmiechu, wyglądają na złych, ubrani na czarno, jakby nosili żałoby.Rzadko slyszę trzy słowa; proszę,przepraszam, dziękuję.Język,to rynsztokowym slang,co drugie słowo przekleństwo.Wszędzie dookoła palą papierosy te oryginalne lub elektroniczne.Nawet 12-14 lat....

You want to see how look our real emotions, bare to public? Come to traditional Polish "wesele"(wedding reception) Poles behave completely different amongst friends than in public. You have to earn our trust and friendship because here they are real, not superficial, when you do, we open up and you can see what real trust and friendship looks like.

I just came across your channel. My great-grandparents came from Poland when my grandma was younger, I often wonder what Poland is like & wonder if I have any family over there ( I didn't know a lot of my dad's family & only got to spend time with my grandma when I was too young to ask questions and by the time I became a teenager she was gone & it was too late :( ... I have watched a couple of your video's and I can definitely say for sure I have a lot of polish DNA in me because I have many of the same characteristics ( thankfully some I have grown out of. Like the need to prove to someone, I am right. Now I am just like ok you think what you want ROFLMAO!) I should note I am honest to a fault so I usually never say I am right if I am not 99.9 % sure I am right, otherwise, I will say "I am not 100% sure but I think" Wait til I tell my daughter that when we are goofing around & call ourselves lazy or stupid etc.. we are just coming by it naturally :) I actually detest lying Especially if it's for a stupid reason :( Thanks for the video :)

Oh sure, Poles are the epitome of anger, especially when you compare them to the famously serene Italians, and let's say Brazilians. It's not like South America is known for any sort of emotional expression or violence, right? And let's not forget how in Southern Europe, they practically meditate instead of using animated gestures in conversations. In Poland, gesturing wildly in someone's face is not commonly recognized as a part of the cultural code. It's more like a charming tradition elsewhere. And the Germans, oh, they are the picture of calm and politeness, especially after a beer when a girl rejects their romantic proposals. And when the plan does not go to plan, they are not shouting at all. Nope! As for the Middle East and North Africa, they practically invented tranquillity. Ever tried declining a souvenir in Egypt? It's like refusing a cup of tea at grandma's house, so warm and understanding they are, isn't it?

Even among Slavs, Poles are considered... cold and aloof, one could say. I know Russians and (some) Ukrainians think we treat them with superiority attitude. We rarely hug each other in public, nor (usually) greet each other with a kiss on the cheek. It's about personal space, I think. We value it, and our personal bubble tends to be bigger than other Slavic people. Where a Russian would go for bear hug and back pats, we offer a handshake. Or a hand wave if we can get away with it.

I have mixed heritage, my mum was Italian, dad was Polish. Met at the end of ww2. My character therefore is an amalgam, I'm rather loud, hug everyone, gregarious, want to feed everyone, and that's the Italian side, then the Polish side often tells me to calm down a bit but then starts yelling and wants to give everyone a drink! So no one leaves my house hungry or thirsty (aka sober)! My internal conflicts are usually because one side is arguing with the other!!

@@GdzieJestNemo Hmm, i don't certainly agree on calling Kresy a polish colony, this was a deeply integrated part of country, same as it's hard to call siberia a russian colony, although i'm open for a debate

@@michuXYZ that how polish/lithuanian nobility refereed to Kresy. It was hardly integrated - you essentially had series of manors with close to no urban settlements where trade, craftsmanship or education would develop.

@@GdzieJestNemo It makes sense, but it was still different type of colony, we never enslaved any black man as western countries did, in fact we went to Haiti with Bonaparte just to change side on arrival and start helping Haitians. Some people will say, "Yeah, but you know you tried to buy Madagascar from French?" Yeah, i know, but we didn't succeeded, and situation with Courland's colonies wasn't really that straight
