I agree 100%. Over the last 30 years, I have owned 4 Rolex (3 from new, one pre-owned). Just sold the Daytona earlier this year and stumbled across homage watches (Pagani Design, Cronos and San Martin). I now own 7 of them and love them. The Rolex were fantastic investments and functional timepieces. Ultimately, they are just watches. Good, but not spectacular. Some of the homage pieces are 95% of the Rolex at 1-2% of the Rolex price. No brainer!

I’ve already had my time with my luxury timepieces from Rolex to Grand Seiko, I sold them all except my Tag Heuer F1 which has sentimental value. What they will not tell you is that eventually you get sick of them just like any other watch not to mention I had to insure them just case something happens to them, you got your bases covered. I’m just a watch collector from $10 Casios to $10,000+ and up timepieces. I like them all. I just bought homages of my favorite Rolexes in the collection I just sold off. I sleep better at night. I’d rather give a $100 Pagani Design GMT Master II homage than my $15k Rolex GMT Master II to a robber. I’d probably lose my life over that timepiece. 😂 Recent stats show that robberies of luxury timepieces totaled over 1.5 billion dollars.

I purchased a Pagani Design Rolex Daytona homage JUST so I could understand the quality. I seriously was not intending to wear or use it…but, my wife opened it and was in love with it! It cost a whopping $58 USD (sale) and looks terrific. Quality is a little weak in a couple of areas of the bracelet. But the watch itself has been solid for her. She’s a chef, and wearing it to work isn’t an issue because its just such an affordable watch.

When it comes to homage pieces, you have to consider that there are a lot of us out there who can't afford a Rolex or something of that price range and frankly don't know or care what is in their catalog. I chose the Pagani "Batman" GMT because I like the look, specs, price and functionality - but frankly had zero idea that it was a Rolex homage when I chose it. I don't know what Rolex is producing or has produced, and since I can't afford one then frankly I couldn't care less if tried. The fact that some people want to call these watches "homages" is completely irrelevant, and a lot of us won't - and didn't - take the supposed homage status into account. Actually, there just might be more of us who chose a watch for its looks, etc. rather than because it was an homage. Just something to consider...

I usually wear citizen eco drives but wanted to switch it up. I don’t pretend it’s a Rolex and when asked about it (it gets a decent amount of compliments) I tell them exactly what it is. Most people respond by saying wow, for that price they wouldn’t spend the extra money on the Rolex. That being said, I love watches but I’m not a ride or die for the originals nor are most of the people I interact with. I would never wear a copy and try to pass it off as an original.

Is not about affordability or being a college student. I have a Rolex Daytona that I bought years ago and am too afraid to wear in case it gets stolen. Insuring the watch is now more expensive than insuring the car. I have it as an investment and have currently found homage PG watches, which I’m more than happy to wear, since they are lovely and you get a lot of watch for the money. The watch does not define the man, it ultimately comes down to the satisfaction that you get from the watch and how it makes you feel when wearing it. Anything else is just plain snobbery.

Watches are becoming like womens jewelry. For the money I have to agree that the Pagani is a good investment although a friend’s GMT has quit running! Got any idea where to get it repaired? Most shops look at it and because they think it’s a fake won’t touch it. Keep up the videos and BTW, I don’t think anyone who owns a GMT watch, no matter what make, even know how to use it!

Try Steeldive... It's a little more expensive, but the bezel finish is far superior. The movement is that of the “top-of-the-range” Pagani, the NH34 from Seiko, the water-resistance is superior, and so on. For my part, it's really the bezel finish - catastrophic on certain versions equipped with the NH34 - that made me sell mine. On the pretext of adding lume, they made the engraving of the numerals hideous, too thick and imprecise. I sold my watch the day after I received it. Something I don't find at all with Steeldive.

According to San Martin, ceramic Pepsis are tricky to manufacture. Apparently, it has to do with the temperature they need to apply to the ceramic. This temperature is very different for red and blue colors. With black and blue, for instance, there's just a few degrees of difference. That's why, if you buy a ceramic bezel insert from China, it will cost maybe 7 dollars, but for a Pepsi ceramic insert they will charge you then times that amount.

Trouble is that a lot of homage watches have seriously bad quality control. I’ve wasted $1,000 on two Cronos watches (A GMT and a Sub homage) .. and after a while you realize that most of these watches simply aren’t worth it. They’re not necessarily a ‘savings’ because they’ll cost you more in repair. That being said .. I think they can be fun .. and if you’re lucky to get one that isn’t crap they can scratch an itch. I have a few homages in my collection .. but I think the ones I enjoy most are from WMT watches (I have the ‘Saw Blade’ homage), as well as Phylida (with their ‘No dime to buy’ watch). Probably the one that I wear the most is my ‘stunt Rolex’ Air King homage from Pagani Design .. I bought it to act as a beater watch for my actual Rolex Air King. So, I’m not against homages .. would be hypocritical of me to do so .. seeing as I own about 8 homages (mostly bought for review purposes). But I will admit I’ve wasted a fair amount of money on some of these .. enough money that’s I could have bought a really good luxury watch in their place. They do a decent job of ‘looking’ like the watch they’re pretending to be .. the feel is completely off and they’ll never give you anywhere near the same experience. Of course, if you can’t afford a luxury watch I totally get it. But I’d say .. buy the homage watch of the luxury watch you wanna buy for real .. and save your pennies for that. You’ll get there eventually .. and you’ve got a place holder in the meantime.
@ClickyBezel2 жыл бұрын

The most strident critics of homage are insecure flexers and snobs who buy not for their inherent appreciation of the piece, but for how they wish to appear in the world. Their preferred weapons are shame and disdain - the last vestages of the hipocrite. By the way, Tudor is the ultimate "Clomage" watch, yet it seldom generates the same disdain from these haters. Also, you cannot outlaw economics. The insane margins and pathetic price/performance ratio of overpriced timepieces has created a predictable economic response. The market has created a solution for those of lesser means (or who choose to spend less) and the snobs cannot stand this. I can enjoy my Paganis and Rolexes, each for what they are. It is no one elses business. Mind your own wrist.

You are foolish to over the so called homage watch. For the price, feel and look and VALUE, you will look like a million bucks for a small fraction of the name brand watch. And if you bump it and break it, buy another one and you still save lots of cream. I look for an attractive and interesting and fun looking homage. So long as it has a sapphire glass and decent movement. Take a homage and change out the strap, you got yourself a million dollar look!

Junghans microbrand ??????

You’re right! I don’t know why Junghans came up in my mind when I was filming. I forget they have a heritage behind the brand. Thanks for watching!

Homage does not equal clone. The pagani design watches would be called a fake if they had a logo change.
