reason why his taking so much shot is because his teammates are all trash. have you ever played basketball before when it comes to when it counts. you want to rely and give it to the person who will get it done and not give it to someone who you think will make it 50%. play the game when it counts then you will know you want to take the shot if your better than the rest of your player. play the game first then talk brother

His rebounding stats aren't natural though; that's my only gripe. YES he goes get it, YES it's cool to see, but he becomes liable on defense when he fishes for them. Let's be honest, Westbrook slacks on defense, and hovers around the block so he can get the rebound.. he's playing point guard, and will leave a sub par to decent shooter, at risk of getting a defensive rebound, even at the expense of taking them from his own teammates.. I respect his hustle, but it's selfish. Irrational for a point guard.

cacable7 Kawhi is the real MVP. Bleacherreport got the right prediction in my opinion. All season long, like I said, the front office and the addition of d'antoni and his shooters are the real reason for turning the rockets season around after "you know who" singlehandedly destroyed the whole team a year ago. It is why rockets are building the team around d'antoni system and shooters rather than selfish isolation style. D'antoni is the coty. Morey is the gmoty. Gordon is mip. Demise Harp Because it's true tho... if any stars were in the situation Russ is in and were going for stat sheet stuffing, they could do what he's doing with less turnovers/ a better shooting percentage
@DemiseHarp7 жыл бұрын
I gotta disagree man. Averaging 30 and a triple double is a lot harder than just "going for stat sheet stuffing". Plenty of stars have been on bad teams where they stuff the stat sheet but rarely ever to the level of what Russell is doing. I agree that other players would likely have better FG%'s but they would also have lower stats in almost every other category. You can't hypothetically give other players Russell's good without also giving them his bad. That's completely disrespectful to Russell's conditioning above all else. Actually, James Harden avgs more turnovers than Westbrook so that says something.
@Grimmj7w7 жыл бұрын
Demise Harp Well LeBron shoots 53% now and is a far better passer.

I like Lebron but remember when KD won MVP and people argued " if LeBron shot as much as KD, he. would average 40 points." Then in the 2015 finals LeBron averaged almost 30 shots a game and averaged 36 points with a shooting % way lower than Durant's
@DemiseHarp7 жыл бұрын

I think Carter is missing the point. Look at the rebounding stats of the OKC and compare Westbrook and Adams. Adams has very few rebounds and only 1 more defensive than offensive rebound. Meanwhile, Westbrook has more offensive rebounds than many guards, but his rebounds are mostly defensive. Which suggests that instead of being a guard, defending the perimeter and setting up plays, he goes to hang around the paint more to grab boards. It's not about how hard you work, but how smart you work hard. Westbrook doesn't have an amazing team, but they aren't bums either. Oladipo, Kanter, Adams, Gibson are all good pros, but only Oladipo and Kanter are getting more than 10 shots and barely. Meanwhile, Westbrook, a 42% career shooter decides he's Steph Curry and starts pulling up from 3. It's not about doing everything, but doing your job well and as a PG, putting people in position to also do their job well.

Okc without Westbrook is a lottery team. Nobody on the team is a knockdown shooter, nobody can create their own shot except Kanter (and that's just on the block), nobody has the court vision to get the team involved. It's not that they have bad players but that they have a bad mix of talent. Steven Adams, Oladipo, Kanter and McDermott would be excellent fill in players if OKC could flip the bench for some more 3 and D guys and maybe another drive and dish guy. Right now they have too many guys that do the same things and none of them can cover the things Westbrook does (distribute, drive and finish) nor do they have any real perimeter threats either.

Since KD left OKC, Russ has been carrying the team over his shoulders. He's the most hardworking player every night, he wants to shoot, to make plays, to get steals, he runs for the rebounds while everyone else stares at the ball bouncing on the rim. Isaiah Thomas "when he gets them they win" yes, because that means he has to pass the ball at minimum a double digit number of times, which if you didn't know, passing is important

Jordan averaged 27 shots one year scored 37 a game on 48 percent. As for Westbrook it's still impressive averaging a triple double even though it's obvious he's going for those each game
@crimsonice897 жыл бұрын
He's teammates are helping him get rebounds, think about the psychological impact that has on them. No wonder the team is doing very well, everything revolves around one person. His teammates are not motivated to play cause they don't really feel part of the game.

does everyone forget how Russell Westbrook gets his rebounds? it's because when the opposing team shoots free throws and they miss the Oklahoma City Thunder on the Baseline line just box out and let Russell get the rebound. during the games it's like the Thunder don't try and rebound when he's around they just box out and let him get the board.
@manoneal17247 жыл бұрын
42% from the field and 5.4 turnovers. He's dynamite on the court, but what wins championships is efficiency, decision making and playing within the team concept. All facets in which Russell fails terribly. He's not the MVP.

Change the standard of triple doubles to 2 pts, 10 rebounds 20 assists per game.. Russell will start sharing the ball to get that 20 assists and the team will start winning games

Billy Donovan openly admitted that his big men are intentionally boxing out while not trying to grab the rebound so Westbrook can get his trip-dub. This level of stat padding is absurd

I remember when Jordan came back to play with the Wizards this Thunder team reminds me of them in a way. Mj made Kwame Brown look good even though Mj shot alot him doing less wouldn't have made Kwame better. He also had Rip Hamilton and Rip was the only player who took upon himself to step up and elevate his game but at the time Rip wasn't the best he was but playing with Mj helped that. Kwame never was as good when Mj left. My point is one man isn't responsible for how well his team is. Everybody is responsible for making sure they are better. Russ is doing his job by playing on a high level he is elevating these guys now they have to help themselves like Rip did.

Im sorry but you cant just dismiss Wilt Oscar etc with the pace and race argument. There are so many other factors that maybe even out and their stats were AMAZING. Wilt is goat in my opinion and should be in everyones top 5. If blocks were counted then he would have had many more triple doubles and lots of quadruple doubles.

The reason no one else is averaging a triple double is because Westbrook has the highest usage rate in NBA history. Per 100 possession harden is averaging a triple double as well.
@kmustapha64557 жыл бұрын
kawhi also do everything on the court both offense and defense, some player being overshadow by this triple double, many players now getting triple double, if all team play like the system of okc for sure many can get triple double,

When your TRYING TO PAD YOUR STATS a triple double can't be that hard when your that athletic he literally steals rebounds from his teammates
@RedlegFan197 жыл бұрын
it would be a travesty if Westbrook won the mvp. He's on a team that's in the middle of the pack in the NBA. He'll break the record for most turnovers in a season, he's shooting just over 42%, and he shoots the ball more then anyone

I guess the only reason why its overrated is Because OKC aint a top 3 seed team in the west. I think if OKC were in the top 3 it would be amazing. But i could understand how the triple double is overrated if westbrook is doing all that effort and there still losing. I would rather take Curry's 3 pointer over westbrooks triple double anyday. Only reason is that Warriors were a top team and if the team is winning that truly highlights your mvp's skills.

get em chris..if bron averaged a triple dub he would be the GOAT...people don't realize in order to get them numbers (pad stats) you have to play hard both ends of the floor for long period of time then be consistent with it game after game big rockets fan BEARD FOR MVP ..but gotta show respect for greatness Russ is a monster..

yes, russ looks to get them. a guy who makes an effort to get stats won't win. there's no natural flow, but forcing plays. you're gonna get 30 as a great scorer on a bad team. you'll get all the shots. but his teammates won't improve that way.
@basketballgod27917 жыл бұрын
I see what he is saying because remember when lebron lost kyrie and love and started shooting a lot of shots and averaged like almost 40 a game for that playoff series but he shot a lot and his shooting percentage dropped and people were mad at him but when your back is against like westbrook and you lose a top 5 player in the league it fuels you. lebron could average a triple double but not with kyrie and love playing because they take up a lot of possessions. This is a not a fluke season for westbrook. Westbrook wants the triple double so he's going out and getting it. Lebron wanted higher numbers in assists and to shoot better from 3 so he went out and got it. 2 stars on two different missions but the objective is the same and thats to win triple double or not

Triple doubles are still a big thing. People saying LeBron deserves to be MVP even though his stacked with all stars and quality veterans but can't even post a record better than 3rd in the league and not far from the likes of Boston and Houston... Russ deserves the praise, despite his awful TOs
