On my mk7 gti it was a total waste of money however my e36 hugely benefited from a front and rear strut bar feels super great

reason for this is that the e36 strut towers are very weak, tearing away and warping at the seams often. super common for them to warp out of place, and yes, they should be either reinforced or strut tower added asap. Its the reason the braces for e36's have plenty of adjustment, as these cars have enough miles on them at this point that their normally far enough out of whack that an additional inch may be necessary.

It feels so much better, and I’ve only put on my engine bay strut bar, I still have the trunk and under carriage to put on.

that’s crazy the first thing i noticed when i added my active autowerke strut bar on my e46 was how much more solid it felt going over bumps

Its a good thing you have one, especially if you've done suspension modifications. E46 strut towers are prone to mushrooming and cracking which will cause you a world of pain. A strut tower brace and reinforcement plates will prevent this.

@@rx-heaven8934yeah my tower was already kinda mushroomed i think because i had to gently hammer my screws into place so they would line up with the plate. but i think the strut bar i have also works as strut tower reinforcement plates because the plates on mine are crazy thick.

Been driving slammed e46s for years. Never had an issue with mushrooming. That’s why part of the firewall extends to the bottom of the tower. Look an e30 strut tower… that’s a chassis that absolutely benefits from strut tower reinforcement.

Strut bars are realistically more important on older chassis like pre 2000’s cars, modern car chassis have a lot of tech to make them rigid that older cars didn’t. A strut bar might make a world of difference on a 93 civic hatch but may not even be worth the effort on a 2018 civic hatch.

A strut brace was the only reason my strut tower wasn't bent to hell when my strut was met the edge of my wheel.

@@ps5801 Yes but if the other side has more grip then transferring those forces is a positive outcome. There are some situations where it is not ideal but more often than not it is a net gain.

My fourth gen. Acura TL has an extremely well designed strut tower brace bar. It's a lot better than even the aftermarket options for a lot of cars

@@804MRMAN they're definitely not the same principle. Strut Brace stops movement of the towers, making the body itself more rigid. The sway bar connects the two hubs via lca or shock body or so, to keep both wheels flat around corners. Ie wheel under weight goes lower, which keeps other wheel lower, keeping the car flat. One is for bracing, one is for handling. Brace for rigidity, sway bar for sway and handling cbaracteristics

@@siralfredofhorsiii And my sway bar doesn't connect to no wheel hub. You have no idea what you speak of! My sway actually floats, and it's connected to the sawy end links which are connected to the lower control arm, not no wheel hub!!!

They are used alot in racing for reinforcements so the whole front end doesn't bend

8th gen accords and the crosstours come with a strut tower bar stock, i was kind of surprised, i might add a custom rear bar to my crosstour though, the TL sway bar mod isn’t enough in my opinion.

evo 8 and 9’s drive immensely better without a front strut bar and no rear sway bar. every car is different.

That’s not how forces work. Vertical forces don’t get horizontally transferred. Now… what it will do is ensure that any horizontal deflection while the force is experienced will be minimized by transferring it to the other vertical structure.

Honestly. Having cross support is only needed if you're going to ride the shit out of something. Improved roadways don't require them that often aside from the occasional pothole.
