You can’t tell from the angle, certainly wouldn’t be that far after 30k even on a light car, I’d be astonished if you’d get 30k out of tyres on a truck that weights over 3 tons; maybe 20k.
@Nderak2 ай бұрын
yep new EV owners who jackrabbit out of every red light and then wonder why their tires dont last. back before the Model X came out there was an S P85+ owner who complained about getting less than 20k miles on a set on the forum, then we got out of him that it was a p85+, on the special summer tires, and he had a lead foot. that was nearly 9 years ago.

It looks like either flooring it everywhere or it’s been used heavily off road. The weight of the truck will cause much heavier wear but not cause chunks to come away from the tread pattern.

If the tires are, in fact, wearing out faster for some Cybertruck owners, then it's not misinformation.
@keith_55842 ай бұрын
Agreed, not misinformation. Different Climates, Different Air Pollution, Different Friction, and if I am not mistaken some models have different drivetrain strategy. Personally never been a fan of Goodyear Performance Tires. Had a new set of Eagle F1s toast after less than 5k. They couldnt handle FWD power and steer at the same time. On the flipside they were fine for a RWD platform. Replaced them with a pair Evo V12s and eventually an auxiliary set of RE11s and even in the rain, way better when that is a recipe for problems. Seems like a similar story here. Steer or push, not both. (For the Goodyears)
@texasaim7762 ай бұрын
But it is due to drivers incapable of handling torque.
@keith_55842 ай бұрын
@@texasaim776 That would be closer to true for ICE, but not for closed and open loop feedback motor powerplants. There isnt the passive engineering improvements of a transmission or other fluid coupled drivetrain. That usually absorbs some of the drivers flaws and gives them a platform to improve. On an overpowered EV you are the space monkey pushing buttons and hoping things happen or moreover hoping mission control doesnt override what you are doing. Approach it like it’s a computer program, not a battle strategy. It’s not one computer but several making decisions about traction with garbage software making poor decisions. “Fix it in Post”, “We will patch it later”, and “its a feature not a bug.” Thats not bias against Teslas, thats the reality of the software industry bleeding out. A good tire can tolerate an idiot not feathering a pedal properly. A machine randomly deciding when to sledgehammer and when to feather is entirely in software. It is just ambiguously hard to prove whats going on because as drivers we have no idea what the software map is doing and its not predictable like a PCM on an engine.

I've worked as a service advisor. Battery vehicles use up tires three to four times faster than IC vehicles. Eyeball test, y'all's cyber truck is at about a 7-8/32nds. You are half-worn to legal limit in 8 thousand miles on tires that would last 40k on a regular truck. So yes, it isn't as quickly as some are reporting, but in Colorado, you don't want to run the tread down to 2/32s either. I would recommend swapping them after 5/32s. That means you guys only realistically have about 3k left on those tires. Battery electric vehicles weigh significantly more, and have a higher instantaneous torque impulse than IC vehicles, so it's an inevitability, unfortunately.

You're not a service advisor. Otherwise you'd know they usually dont wear faster, especially as most EV's dont weigh more or marginally do.

They are gravel chewed. I sold tires to primarily rural customers for 42 years. It’s always been an issue. They may also be showing some wear from hard acceleration & spinning the tires on gravel. These were primates the guys that would complain and be a nuisance. Think is my second (3rd??) career was Law Enforcement and they were the guys I wrote up for coming to town and driving like jerks. They didn’t often put 2&2 together. I also had a ranch with 4500 head of range cattle, 8800 acres of owned land and up to another 7,000 - 8,000 acres of leased land, plus I had a feedlot permitted for up to 25,000 head! They usually put that & the tire shop together as I looked the same at either of those 2 careers. (I had a couple of FT managers at the tire shop so I didn’t have to be there very often. Anyways, it’s often a matter of profiling people. Then again the owner may just tow moderately heavy load or haul heavy loads on gravel. Regardless, it’s gravel chipping away at the treads. TFL’s tires show very little gravel chipping and are wearing typically as tires do when driven primarily on paved roads. Their rear tires are showing possible signs of driving with them under inflated as both outside edges of each tire, while wearing even, are wearing faster there than in the middle. The trucks are kinda heavy. Not Hummer heavy at 9,000+ lbs, but are still 7,000 + lbs.

Drive-by-wire Steer-by-wire Direct Drive Think about that for a second. If a driver is only making suggestions to a symphony of computers which are receiving gigabytes of data and then making decisions on applying power and how much based on that sensor data; How much control do you really have? Blaming it solely on the driver is Occams razor giving you tetany. Its NOT an internal combustion engine with a fluid coupled drivetrain with multiple gears. There is not a physical cable connecting your pedals or steering wheel to physical hardware. Its software. Just because its harder to prove what is doing it, doesnt mean its the ass behind the wheel. The reality is that with software making the decisions and the horrible way it is tested in that industry, this is more complicated than just someone sledgehammering a pedal. It is connected to a variable resistor, not a throttle body. You want proof? How is that self driving patch working out for you? Tesla is way ahead of the curve, but the entire software industry is a mess. Until that gets fixed or the steering wheel gets directly connected to the rack, tire wear can be caused by simply a loose screw on a sensor, or corrosion on a plug.
