As an American, it was remarkable how open the 'Eskimo' fans were to hearing and accepting another argument. No one in the States seems capable of admitting they could be wrong about anything.

The amount of time the guy in the middle realized what he is doing wrong was fantastic cause couple of months ago when the segment about Washinton Redskins was shared I could see that Americans inherently think that they are the greatest in all aspect and anything they do is not wrong even when faced with facts. But Canadians, on the other hand, think in a kind and healthy manner. No wonder they are loved and adored by the world unlike USA who is hated by most.

@@ThePauprinceaz09 Here is a fact for you, Shaka Zulu had an army of 50000 warriors. Can you guess what the army was for? Sitting around and eating carrots all day? No, they were attacking neighbouring tribes which resulted in a massive death toll, killing the woman and children everyone who comes in their path. This makes your statement invalid, because Shaka was a black man and he had slaves too. Shaka buried people while still alive, this is a fact. You can't hate Zulu people today for what Shaka and Dingaan did 200 years ago and they do not have to apologize either because they weren't even there.

@James Bond I am a real native and while yes, some of my people do call themselves Indians, the sentiment and self-identifier is not universal. Some call themselves native, some call themselves indigenous, some use First Nations, some call themselves by the name of the tribe. It's better to be as specific as you can, because the variety in tribal cultures is as vast as the difference between Germany and England, despite both being predominantly white countries. "Although the name "Eskimo" is commonly used in Alaska to refer to all Inuit and Yupik people of the world, this name is considered derogatory in many other places because it was given by non-Inuit people and was said to mean "eater of raw meat." Linguists now believe that "Eskimo" is derived from an Ojibwa word meaning "to net snowshoes." However, the people of Canada and Greenland prefer other names. "Inuit," meaning "people," is used in most of Canada, and the language is called "Inuktitut" in eastern Canada although other local designations are used also. The Inuit people of Greenland refer to themselves as "Greenlanders" or "Kalaallit" in their language, which they call "Greenlandic" or "Kalaallisut." Most Alaskans continue to accept the name "Eskimo," particularly because "Inuit" refers only to the Inupiat of northern Alaska, the Inuit of Canada, and the Kalaallit of Greenland, and it is not a word in the Yupik languages of Alaska and Siberia."

It's not considered a major slur, but some people don't like it because it's a name given to them by others that means (if I remember correctly) "flesh eaters"

"Eskimo" refers to any native of the arctic circle, Inuit are specifically the ones from the north of the american continent.

Eskimo is just what the Algonquin tribes called the Inuit.

Not quite right, but very close. Inuit refers to the descendants of the Thule culture which now resides in Canada, Alaska and Greenland. Greenlanders will probably look at you funny if you claimed they live north of American continent.

The word Eskimo derives from phrases that Algonquin tribes used for their northern neighbors. (wikipedia) Not a white origin term.

I'm and American and I didn't know that the word Eskimo was considered racist. I was always taught that the actual term is Inuit and that the word Eskimo was just considered a bit archaic/anachronistic, but not a racial epithet or anything like that.

Fans that are willing to think and actually do care if something offends another group. Though maybe this doesn't offend them, it's always a good idea to find out. It's so sad that lady was taken away from her family, this is so recent not talking generations ago.
