A tactic you missed with the rodents, if you do have the high ground and they run to hide behind low cover, a well placed grenade can take out a large group of them since they tend to flock in small swarms, little tip for my fellow STALKER's.

Didn't even see one Chimera so I must have avoided it this time (second playthrough, now going Ward route and upped from Stalker).

I like that running away is a viable option in stalker because unlike fallout, where you’d rather fight anything for the sweet sweet xp. In stalker any fight with a mutant will leave you worse off in every single way possible without any benefits. ammo? Spent, armor? Shredded. Health items? Used to glue together the red blob that you become after a mutant mauling. Trying to run away is the better choice in 80-90% of encounters with these things

Indeed. In the original you might at least run the chance of getting a rare mutant piece off of them but here, they are just a way to waste bullets and armour. Better to just leg it!

well in SoC you did have a change to get trophy which traders might've requested and in basically every stalker mod in existance you can skin any dead mutants getting body parts for either selling or crafting. In many ones you can even wear the skin in artifact slots for certain passive bonuses or cook their meat for nutritious consumable bonuses.

the problem with mutants in stalker 2 is the fact they are everywhere , the worst is the bloodsucker. you can go 150 meters and find like 5 of them , and they respawn so quickly that in the time you start going somewhere , you will fight like 5 bloodsuckers , 20 dogs , 15 boars (and fleshes) , and like 10 snorks , just going from one place to the another. So the game PUNISHES you for exploring.

Worse thing fighting burers is that even if you had gone throgh the area previously and had picked all the ammo from the previous corpses(and the guns) that you made in the area... I have a theory. In SCP 5000 (the story about the robotic suit) the reason the foundation was killing everybody was because of this creature that lived in humans that had a plan to destroy all of humanity. But when this thing was removed, the human had no sense of pain. What if the pestilence is the creature that corrupts the world of SCP 5000 and 049 is trying to stop it? According to the game's files, most mutants, depending on their health, have a ridiculous amount of armor and low headshot damange multipliers. That itself eliminates the benefit of e.g. expansive bullets. Looks like developers were trying to compensate for the dumb AI and gaslight the players with "that is a skill issue" excuse.

"Just run away" isn't very Duty-like, though. In Anomaly, you could make a decent living as a monster hunter. And you didn't specifically have to use a shotgun loaded with buckshot (though shotgun ammo is economical and practical). Any AK in 7.62x39mm with a GP-25 mounted on it will make you able to contend with anything the Zone throws at you. The AK will handle anything up to a chimera. The GP-25 will handle pseudogiants. Stockpile 40-mils, and you'll be able to expend them more freely, not necessarily reserving them only for pseudogiants. 1:59 / 3:22 / 4:57 The Three Little Fleshpigs! 5:11 They've evolved from galloping pig-lumps into leaping potato-pigs! 9:43 In S:SoC, especially with older versions of the Oblivion Lost mod, hunting snorks with a pistol made for some fine sport. The goal is to nail them in the head. .45s work best (or more powerful calibers depending on mod/version). With 9x18mm or 9x19mm, it might take two or more headshots. Anomaly's snorks are different, and they don't make for fun sport hunting. Or "poaching" if you wanna call it that. Anomaly's snorks don't have tanky bodies, so headshots don't matter as much, and they go down from regular amounts of damage using any weapon. They also move around like they're partially disconnected from the world around them, seemingly gliding all over the place, and they can course-correct their lunge attacks to some degree, even when there's no solid object for them to bound off of. 10:12 In the old games, both their swipe and kick attacks dealt rupture damage. If you ask me, their kicks should deal impact damage. Not sure how or why no one ever thought of that. 11:00 Hit it with buckshot, you mean. I still haven't played S:HoC, but I've heard that it maintains the long-standing tradition of severely nerfing shotgun slugs for no reason, rendering them basically worthless. IRL, a 12-gauge slug can bust the engine block of a Mack truck. Note: 12-gauge in metric is 18.5mm (or .73 caliber). 12-gauge slugs are contained in a wad just like shot pellets, and it functions kinda like a sabot. So the slug, itself, is a bit slimmer than the bore. I think somewhere in the neighborhood of .68 caliber, but don't quote me on that. At any rate, that's a respectably chonky chunk of big, mean, burly lead. 12:35 Just like Magneto! 12:43 How about 40-mils? 40-mils are the absolute cure for both "big game" and mutants with X-Men powers in Anomaly-go-nuts (with or w/o GAMMA-go-nuts). 14:13 In a Borderlands game, that's the sort of thing you'd fight with a fire weapon. Anomaly has thermite grenades. Some mods for S:SoC reintroduce the GM-94. The real-world iteration uses 43mm thermobaric grenades. Either that or a shotgun loaded with Dragon's Breath rounds would be ideal for taking down "tank" -like monsters. 14:31 Again, just like some Borderlands monsters! Imagine a mod for S:HoC that adds something like, say, a revolver that shoots fire bullets! Nah, scratch that. Thermite hand grenades, thermobaric launcher grenades, and Dragon's Breath shotgun rounds would be better for Zone-style gameplay. Part of the appeal of shotguns and grenade launchers is their versatility. That, plus they're "bread and butter" for monster hunters in the Zone. 14:37 What if that do0m-deer had the twisted face of a fleshpig?! 🤪 And what if staring it in the face caused you to go insane?! What if staring at an ordinary fleshpig's fleshy pig-face caused you to go insane?! 🤪 15:05 / 16:42 How effective are 40-mils on pseudogiants and chimeras? 15:25 Imagine a pseudogiant that has the fleshy pig-face of a fleshpig! It would have a proboscis-tongue that would lash out and sting you, injecting you with a venom that transforms you into a humanoid fleshpig! 🤪😜 16:19 You should be able to trick it with a fake-out the same way you could "dodge" snork attacks in S:SoC by ducking under them. Those "ye olde" types of snorks would lunge at your head, so if you crouched right as they jumped, they'd miss and sail right over you. But you had to time it perfectly. If you're crouched before they lunge, they'll target your head and land a strike. So this is probably a similar concept. Also, in the Oblivion Lost mod for S:SoC, there were chimeras, and you could duck under their lunge attacks just like you could with snorks. But again, you had to time it perfectly. You could also "dodge" pseudogiant pseudostomps with perfectly-timed jumps. All this sort of thing made for some fun Zone Sportsmanship Challenges.
