The spooky vibe will never fully go away! I've worked in a "retired" convent for over 20yrs. (It was repurposed into a mental health facility) & I would fully agree about the nuns coming out after 4! When working alone on a night or weekend, it was made clear I was never actually alone! Never anything malicious but a definite presence for sure! I looked at it like we were looking after their home so they were looking after us (or at least I hoped anyway! 😅)

defined presence is exactly the word i needed! it’s not me because i’m a muggle but i haven’t ever felt like it! it’s a vibe. the odd slamming door doesn’t help either

If you have worked in a convent with live nuns you'd know that they'd be popping to see how you are and if you need anything. You'd be the first to try the fresh bread or goodies out of the oven. I have slept and worked in 2 closed monasteries and have always felt like something was missing and expecting nuns to come around the corner...odd feeling. A convent isn't supposed to be empty but full of life and activity.

@@ThePethericks Absolutely! Its a definite vibe! Frequent door slamming (I like to convince myself that it's just an old building or the wind! Lbvs), footsteps in the upstairs even though no one is there! Often times I'll leave, all doors down every hall are shut/locked/checked, return & they're just sitting open. I'm hoping maybe it's just a helpful invitation to start the day! 🤞 Keep up the great work restoring their home, they'll respect you for it! (& probably continue to scare the crap out of you often just for fun! 🤣)

I remember going on retreat at a Dominican convent in the 60's. It is powerful the spirit those nuns had in their convent. It was hard to leave it at the end of the day. I can say they would only be pleased to see how respectful of their home. I know the chapel has been deconsecrated but believe me, that chapel is still holy.

Billy in 1819, a community of Hospitallers Canonesses of Saint Augustin, who administered the local hospital in Ernee for approximately 200 years, was reduced to a small number of aging sisters. The Bishop suggested that this congregation become affiliated with the Hospitallers of Saint Joseph in Laval. You could perhaps contact this order of Nuns and get some information.

The divining rods work with things other than underground water. An older gas line technician told us about them when we called for service before we dug around possible gas lines in the yard. He said the rods could be used for just about anything on or under the ground. We've since used them to find a long-buried cornerstone from an old building AND a set of keys that were dropped in the grass during a bonfire! They work amazingly well if you take your time, stay relaxed and walk slowly and keep them level. Really nice to see something like this used before calling in a LYDAR company! *yet ;) Best of luck un your search for tunnels!

Hi, Billy and Micheal, divining really works. I did some in Australia about 15-20 years ago. One of my neighbours here in France did it for the local farmers. There are many wells around our village where he found water. I think our local maintenance man (drainage for the village) uses it to find leaks in the system. Good luck finding your tunnel. Maybe a rainbow ended there? We all know what's at the end of a rainbow.

The motion of such dowsing devices is generally attributed to the ideomotor phenomenon, a psychological response where a subject makes motions unconsciously. Put simply, dowsing rods respond to the user's accidental or involuntary movements. Scientific evidence shows that dowsing is no more effective than random chance. It is therefore regarded as a pseudoscience.

I was watching something on the History Channel about France in WW2. Tunnels in and around chateau estates were very common. When the Germans invaded, many tunnels had their entrances buried to seal them off and in many cases to hide family belongings. That would make sense that a 87 year old would remember the tunnels to that era.

Google Satellite images (current Google Maps view) of last years very hot and dry summer shows a very distict dark line in the Chateau's yard running directly south. I'd say thats your best bet for the tunnel location. It's more east than Michael is currently looking at. Basically from the east wing of the Chateau directly south. There's even a concentrated darker area about 35 meters south along that dark line which could be the tunnel entrance.

A fresh cut willow y will have the same effect of dowsing for water. When holding it in both hands palms up thumbs outward. Hold it tight and walk slowly back and forth over the area. When you come to under ground water it will pull down the switch's extended end. No matter how tight you hold it it will pull downward. I have done this and I held so tightly that the bark peeled right off into my hands. It also helps to wear leather boots not rubber. An old water dowser taught me this.

Wouldn’t be surprised about the tunnels. My son lives on the Somme, and virtually every village there has (or had) tunnels under them, a lot dating from the Franco-Prussian war (although you’re probably a bit far west for that). The ones under their farmyard were used as bunkers by the Germans in WW1, and are probably still ‘occupied’, as the Canadians just blew up the tunnel entrances when they overran the village.

They're also called "dowsing rods", and yes, they do work! And for other things besides water, as someone else posted. I forgot to mention yesterday that that old cooker is going to look absolutely splendid once you all work your magic on it, and the fireplace is the perfect place for it. I like the idea of lights in there to showcase the cooker and all your lovely copper. Have a happy Easter, are your little ones going to do an Easter egg hunt on the chateau grounds? They and your puppers would have fun with that! 😊 Good work on all the insulation you put up; yeah, these days insulation doesn't have much fiberglas in it, or they make it less irritating somehow. I remember helping my dad put insulation in our house when I was in my tweens/teens, and even though we covered up with long shirts, dust masks (with plastic frames, which hurt my face!), gloves, ball caps and turtleneck shirts, we STILL got itchy every time! He gave me pieces of wire from a downed fence, and I walked behind him and 'repeated' his finds. I was amazed, but it "was a thing". I've done it since, as an adult. It still works for me. Billy, maybe you could rent a ground penetrating radar unit and run it over the area in question. If there is a void it would pick up and display it on the unit. Also if there is a tunnel it has to end somewhere, my bet would be the basement of the Chateau, so maybe a close inspection of said basement might disclose a portal.

@@michaelponn931 -- Good idea Michael, mount one to a drone and fly it around the chateau in late afternoon when the ground has absorbed the days heat but the voids won't have and they stand out like warts on a bullfrogs back.

Great video. I wouldn't rely on "divining rods" to determine where to dig. You might contact a local college or trade school that has ground penetrating radar equipment and ask them to map out the area as a training exercise.

so glad you wearing a mask too as rockwool can irritate skin and lungs even when wet or dry

Just love what you are doing with the convent. Wish I could be there. The nuns are just coming out to inspect the work. I think they are pleased.

Sometimes it's nice to watch it all unfold without much commentary. Very nice choice of music, too.
