The duality of standards is very interesting. Korean girls feel pressured to wear makeup and look feminine but they don't have a similar incentive to shave. Whereas it's the opposite in the west.

I know right. I think certain aspects of the western culture would benifit the eastern culture.But for guys from the west that might be more of a charm rather than a con as it's something different(different =interest)

In the west, girls don't feel pressured to wear makeup? I find Americans wear make up at way earlier age than Koreans. American kids start wearing make up in middle school which is not common in Korea.

I love that girls in Korea don’t shave and I hope that it’s something westerners can get over and change but I sense it will go the opposite way and Korean girls will start shaving. But shaving down there causes so many problems like ingrown hairs and cuts and there’s so many folds and hard to reach areas. It’s super inconvenient and annoying. As long as its clean that’s all that should matter. It’s also super annoying how the men that want girls to be hairless don’t even clean their balls and would never go through the pain of a Brazilian wax or the time it takes to shave.

There is a HUGE difference between those with those who are "intellectuals" and those who have a "college degree" in the US. I agree with you that a college degree isn't a sign of intelligence. Often, people in the US do have a degree because there is a lot of shaming of those who are not college educated here as well. However, there are lots of intellectuals here too, mostly centred in the university hubs and large cities like Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, DC, etc.

I feel like it's more bc you can get paid more and get jobs more easily in the US if u have even just an unrelated bachelor's, like its a strategic choice even though it doesn't always work and a lot of ppl just end up crushed by student debt
@heirloom100
@heirloom100 3 жыл бұрын
@@faithxu5558 Yeah, that’s true. But also, the whole college system has sort of become a business in my eyes. It’s used to make money rather than create learning opportunities and prepare students for a field of work. They use getting paid more is a big incentive even if it doesn’t really work out and you get saddled with huge amount of debt. Some of my friends who have a college degree are having a hard time finding jobs here even tho they’re educated. Smh

@@heirloom100 Universities are insanely corrupt many get money from other countries such as China to push certain ideas while they still receive money and benefits from the US government which creates a massive conflict of interest breaking the law because of the way Universities are set up. The reason they can get away with it is due to how they get foreign money is set up and the US government being to lacks towards them creating an effed up system, where no investigations are held.

Well, that's what cultural differences are about I guess. You and the person you date just need to communicate well and be willing to learn about the cultural differences between you two to overcome them and find some sort of middle ground. Everyone judges based what they grew up learning was the norm, so it's not much of a surprise. You just both have to be open minded and interested in one another's culture and there won't be any problems. And besides, not everyone is the same :)

From the videos I watch when it comes to the comparison between West and East the media is a global means of exposure to other cultures and from that I can partially understand why these girls fall for trash like him. However using it as a basis from the exposure I'd say that the more exposure to what real guys from other countries, some future issues may be prevented.

It's probably because (east) asian countries in general have collectivist societies whereas western countries are more focused on the individual. Also, patriarchy is more dominant in asia which further oppresses a woman's individuality. If you think about it from an economical standpoint a collectivist society is better for the country's progression as a whole. Therefore people are more expected to conform to a norm or else they wouldn't be accepted.

Also it's kind of funny to me that most assumptions about Korean girls are the exact opposite of the assumptions I'm used to hearing being a Brazilian woman living in America. I’m from Saudi Arabia & Surprisingly Korean and Arab girls are very similar from the points you just mentioned, however in the shaving part they are totally the opposite “it’s cultural thing” we too have super thick hair but as soon as it grows we have to shave it no matter what even your mother tell you so, then when we hit 19,20 we have to start laser treatment regularly so it weakens and not grow as much, basically we us Arab girls like to be hairless all over our bodies arms,legs,etc. I think the differences between the cultures is what’s make everyone special.💚

I agree with you, I was in Korea to teach English about 10 years ago. I had some colleagues who did not have any college degree. Then there were Korean girls who lived in the USA and they were better teachers than the actual foreign teachers, They were ostracized just because they were Korean, even though they were very fluent in the English language, much better than the actual foreigners. I had 3 university degree and a professional teacher certificate, I was shocked to see how these guys could have been hired to teach.

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation 🙏🏻 Lots of good wishes from Vancouver 🇨🇦🍁

Also too shy about the Brazilian wax 😂 but I hate hairs so I shaved all my life and then bought a pulsed light thingy to erase them all lol I’m my own esthetician 😂 but yeah that’s crazy how each countries has their own perceptions! Also it seems that people in Korea lives under the social pressure from the beauty standards to school and work that’s crazy I hope people can take that. Also i didn’t know about the white male wave 😂 that’s crazy I feel now that’s the other way around like the Asian wave has taken over but I feel too much the over fetishization that’s so unhealthy.

Hi Kelsey! Can you explain more about why there is a judgemental mindset of getting Brazilian waxes? Is it because people will think you sleep around a lot? Is it because Korean people will feel that it's too different and that one is trying to assimilate to Western cultures?

Its because it is actually more hygienic to not shave down there, and also because the point of waxing all the hair is to look like a child, and they really don't like that as much in Korea as westerners do.

To be perfectly honest, I think that you'll have girls everywhere who get pissy about their friends going on vacation and then expecting their boyfriend to take them on one as well. But I would not call them the average/middle class so I think it's an unfair assumption to tie to one culture.

I love how honest you are in your videos! I have a question about Korean girls. I live in NYC and I have noticed that a lot of Asian girls tend to only have friends within the Asian communities (which sucks because I’d like to make more friends but I feel like I won’t be able to because I’m a different ethnicity!) It is actually a little intimidating for me as well to approach them for this reason! Are Korean girls likely to make friends with foreign girls? What is your opinion on this? Subscribing because I like your vibe! 💁🏽‍♀️🤗

Hii as a Korean girl, they really wanna be hang out with foreigners.because I'v heard that although they want to hang out with other people especially non-asian, People are already divided into groups due to racial and cultural differences, so it is not easy for Koreans to approach and mingle with other foreign groups first. So many Korean students who came back to Korea after being only in Asian groups there are sad about that. btw I dont know how asian girls except to koreans think about it . so i think if you talk with them first, they would be like it! ( and sorry for my bad english )

As a Korean American woman, this is true. This is based on my experience with my female Korean relatives that were born/raised in Korea. However, for the Korean Americans/British/ Australians etc, they have different attributes they focus than ones she pointed out. Korean American women/the ones born in the west focus more on personality, kindness and passion rather than just superficial things. Again this is from my experience, I’m not saying I’m right.
@skyburster322
@skyburster322 Жыл бұрын
very true, the inner values are the things which matter WAY more than the superficial stuff...as an Asian guy, I used to want to be with a Korean girl so bad because of the Kpop/KCulture and their attractiveness (especially the girl bands and a lot of Korean women I saw are attractive, no joke), but in recent times I decided that it wasn't worth it, since their values don't match mine. To explain why this is, I grew up westernized, basically like an Asian American/Canadian and a Third Culture Kid at the same time. It took a few dead ends and fruitless relationships to make me realize that my values clash too much with the typical Korean girls' mentality, and that it wasn't viable for me to be with them. Maybe I just grew up? I couldn't deal with a girl who chiefly judges on superficial things, e.g. how my social media looks and is concerned about the type of handbag she carries. If she doesn't treasure internal values which matter way more in life, e.g. whether someone has stuff like bravery, a non-judgmental attitude for all l and self-reflection, then I don't wanna be around someone like that, much less be in a relationship with one! Funny how life works...used to be so hopeful that I'd find some pretty and kind Korean girl to date, but now I largely don't even bother. I might sound bitter, but whatever.

Degrees have different levels in the UK, a 1st, a 2-1, a 2-2 it goes to a 3rd. So a first is the best you can get. But in languages, English natives aren’t pushed to learn another language, it’s expected others will know English. I did Spanish for 2 years and it’s just to pass an exam, I still know a lot but I’m not fluent or anything. We do have the option to go to Europe in our 2nd year of university to learn, but a lot of people don’t. It’s sad we aren’t more open about learning.

3:26 I can understand how this is like a “stereotype” you can say because, I’ve heard from my friends that go to Korea or just videos I’ve seen on KZbin in general a lot of Korean guys think Latinas are “fierce, sexy, and exotic” same thing with black girls. As a Latina I can say that isn’t true but it’s sometimes what the media tries to put out there or it’s just people who fetishes a certain race to be like that. I don’t know if I’m the only one who thinks like this lol. I hope I didn’t say anything rude or mean if I did I’m sorry :( but in all that I love your videos much love 💞
