I think we are going to see them get more and more populer as the game ages a bit, like maybe in couple more patches. Lots of choices when it comes to minor god techs and some have much bigger effect on the game than others so we'll deff see some balancing on that regard

2 reasons: during early game, equal to extra villagers. In late game (Age 4), full upgrade gather rate sky above all food gathering.

Gaia had a superior strategy, you can argue he made the wrong unit choice, but the Hades playstyle is so disgusting, he can do nothing all game, defend with sentinels, suddenly his archer mass ia unstopable
