⛔️What I already learned from this new video:👇👇 1. Metalheads don't like you saying that Metal is a genre of Rock -> Okay, I didn't know that. 2. Some people insist on saying that I'm making comparisons or ranking singers. -> In the video, I literally say, "Let's see a list of some Japanese rock singers that I think might like. Is your favorite singer in the list?" I also say in the video, "Tell me who your favorite singer is, and let's make a part 2 of this video!" (These videos require a lot of time and effort, so I can't include all the good singers in a single video. I hope you understand) 3. Some "fans" (or little kids) watch the video and simply start criticizing other singers and bands for no reason. (As I learn more, I will update the list)

Whether or not something classifies as metal seems to be a never-ending debate, as is it's potential distinction from rock. I think the definition of metal has evolved over the decades. So many sub-genres of metal these days, but ultimately I personally still consider it an evolution within the wider rock genre. I mean, some folks no longer consider the original heavy-metal pioneers of the early 70's as metal; something definitely gone off the rails there...

Long ago gave up on putting music into categories. It only upsets the 'experts'. Always admit what I don't like but don't say things I don't like are bad. People will always find something to moan and criticise. Don't be put off continuing to put out great videos. Most of us really enjoy them.

Thank you for your attempt to ask fans about their favorite vocalists. No matter what anyone says, metal is officially one of the rock genres. Yes, some people may not like it. But this is the reality. It’s just that many are accustomed to a short version of the designation of a band (according to the music it performs) - “metal band”. In a broader sense: all the bands we call "metal bands" are "rock bands playing metal." Personally, I prefer to use the expression "metal band". But if someone says, for example, that METALLICA is a rock band, I will not be indignant. Because I think both options are acceptable. If only because METALLICA was inducted into the famous 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame'. And she considers it an honor to be accepted into this Hall. And JUDAS PRIEST (and previously BLACK SABBATH ) were also officially inducted into the 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame'. They are proud of this and also consider it an honor to be in the 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame'. Moreover, many great metal bands dream of getting into this Hall ! Another example for those metal fans who do not accept the word “rock”. In June 2024, Japanese bands LOVEBITES, BABYMETAL, CRYSTAL LAKE will perform at the largest 'Hellfest Summer Open Air' in France and one of the largest in Europe. OFFICIAL: 'Hellfest Summer Open Air' is a ROCK festival dedicated to heavy metal music. Four days. Six stages for bands to perform. More than 180 bands have already confirmed their participation in this festival. LOVEBITES will perform on the “MainStage01”, where MEGADETH, METALLICA, MACHINE HEAD, AVENGED SEVENFOLD will also perform. BABYMETAL will perform on the "MainStage 02", where BRUCE DICKINSON, STRATOVARIUS, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN will also perform A logical question for those who believe that “metal is not rock”... Why then do such famous metal bands want to perform at this ROCK festival ...? 😳In my opinion, this convincingly explains that metal is part of rock.🤗 In conclusion. Official division of music: “There are only four musical directions: folk music, sacred music, academic music and popular music. Each direction includes a number of musical genres and each genre has many subgenres. “Rock music” is a general name for a number of areas of popular music. The word "Rock" indicates the rhythmic sensations characteristic of these movements, associated with a certain form of movement, by analogy with roll, twist, swing, shake... Rock music has the largest number of directions (about 180): from fairly “easy” ones, such as dance rock and roll, pop rock, merseybeat, to aggressive ones - heavy metal, glam metal, thrash metal, black -metal, brutal death metal, grindcore, etc." I could give many more facts, but then the text would be very, very long. Thanks for the video!😊

Don’t get confused by self defined experts and gatekeeper who only feel the need to show the audience their lack of knowledge in music history and music in general. This debatte is so old and smells funny since quite a while already. The pioneers who where called heavy metal back in the days will be seen as Hard rock mainly these days. Metal itself has so many subgenres who are somehow difficult to compare too, e.g. power-, doom- or prog-metal and the most diverse, creative and interesting bands mix many styles and genres freely that they play outside of those small boxes. For people who only feel comfortable in clear black and white worlds, this is an unparalleled imposition hard to swallow 😊 You presented some great singer and were even so smart to avoid a ranking and ask what is our favorite. It’s actually quite simple, nothing to feel sorry about it 🤘

I go with Saiki from Band-Maid just because Band-Maid suits my taste in Rock music and the fact she can sing all day long and has truly come a long way in not just voice quality and longevity, but in personality. She has broken her "Ice Queen" title from her early days with the band and has blossomed into a wonderful personality and perfect singing duo with Miku.

Suzuka is clearly my favorite, it is difficult to manage such a sweet voice in a way that transmits so much strength and security, we must add an exceptional presence on stage and the addition of some very intense choreographies, Mayu is a tornado of energy with exceptional stability vocals and Suzuhana is excellence, they are my three favorites but both Asami and Saki are absolutely top.

While I would say that Suzuhana is the most technically proficient and probably has the 'sweetest' voice of all the vocalists in this video, my personal favourite amongst them would have to be SAIKI! Her voice has the perfect qualities for the musicianship of the rest of the band - I find perfection even in the imperfections of her voice that keeps me coming back for more every time. ❤ I agree with you though, that each of the vocalists featured in this vid brings something unique and outstanding to the table - great vid as always! 🤘

Suzuka Nakamoto can sing songs from most any genre and her ability to hit low notes as well as high is incredible. If the song warrants vibrato it's there otherwise her melodic voice cuts through heavy metal guitars and drums like no other. She is hands down my favorite female vocalist.

Sumetal has a very clean, powerful, well-trained voice which I respect, although I can’t get into Babymetal’s music. Saiki’s the only singer who has brought me to tears in public, though (Yokohama Arena). She’s expressive, emotional, raw, and sometimes you don’t even need to know the lyrics to know what the song’s about, which is absolutely crazy. I don’t know how she does it.

All of them are incredible singers! I can't pick one favorite because they are all very talented and unique, and make perfect synergy with the rest of their band mates. (All of them are some of my favorite Japanese bands, by the way). I've only had the opportunity to see Band-Maid live so far and Saiki (as well as all of the other band members) was so professional and full of energy the whole time. It was just perfect! I hope that all these singers (and their bands) keep getting the recognition and success that they deserve!

Thank you for the question and the video. While the question, “who is the best Japanese Female Singer”, is subjective. My response would be Saiki Atsumi. I love the emotion she projects while singing rock, hard rock, ballad, mixed genre. And to her credit the emotions conveyed in her singing actually convey the lyrics of the song sung mostly in Japanese. This is the sign of a quality musician and vocalist to convey the emotion of the song which is sung in a different language. I also enjoy Mayu of Nemophila. Mayu, along with the rest of Nemophila, have so much fun which is conveyed in the performance.

I always hate the term "best Singer" since it is so subjective. But I'm going to put in my 2 cents anyways. Saiki & Yuko due to their story telling versatility. Their voices take you on a journey. I mean, Saiki sang the same song twice at Yokohama and they both had a life of their own. One had you in tears and the other had you dancing in the aisles. Mayu due to her ability to change vocal styles within the same song, and her voice is so unique. Asami due to the power and range of her voice. Sumetal due to the fact that she sings very rigidly. She hits all the notes perfectly without much emotion. It's through no fault of her own, it's just how the music is written and produced. One thing for certain, their voices fit in perfectly for their respective bands and style of music. I did enjoy the video. Thanks !

I was familiar with all but Yukama. Out of those in this video, I would say that I like Saiki the best. They all have some very talented bands backing them up, but I would say that Band Maid and Nemophila have really shown their talent and drive to become better. Some bands get kind of stagnant in their skills after a while, but those two bands have shown clear improvement in their technical skills.

You mentioned at least half of my top 10 but two of my top three weren't in your list. Remi Matsuo of Glim Spanky has my favourite voice in the Japanese scene, and I think Regan of Saiseiga/Zettai Club has the most versatile voice. I'd agree with Mayu as the pick of your list (I love her voice *and* she is versatile), although Saiki sings my favourite music. Yuko Suzuhana and Asami would also be in my top 6. I also want to mention Angie of Gacharic Spin, who has improved so much in the last year or two, and Fuki of Unlucky Morpheus.

I've seen all these vocalists live (and many others inevitably not on your list). For stage presence Mayu of Nemo is extraordinary. There's a feline power to her stage persona, plus the recent ballad "Odyssey" shows how she's grown as a singer. For versatility Asami of LB. I've seen her do a solo concert covering everyone from Chaka Khan to Heart, and also backing a J-Pop singer on tour when she did harmonizing and also lead. The range of styles she excels in is extraordinary. Akane of East of Eden might get the highest score on a karaoke machine, she is a mimicry expert and has the ear and technique to sing in any style from enka to metal. But picking a favorite from among such talent is impossible.

@@ChadTheDragonLord I didn't see the most recent one, though did see the 2020 Christmas show and a solo show she did back in 2014. Plus the J-Pop singer's concert last summer. The solo shows were excellent, covering singers like Roberta Flack, Celine Dion, Chaka Khan and the Eagles, Oasis, and Heart among others. Much less of the belting or pronounced vibrato you get from Asami with LB, because, obviously, she wasn't fronting a metal band playing at full blast.

All of them are great vocalist in a completely different way. I don't mind Suzuka when she's singing mid-range. Asami provably is the best vocalist but I can't handle her voice. Saiki, even with some imperfections, her live vocal is powerful both vocally and emotionally and you can't keep your attention away from her. She doesn't scream but has just enough grit and bone to her voice that makes her the essential part of Band-Maid signature sound.

@@dennismulhall3057 Indeed. That's why I mentioned my _favourite_ ones; a list of the "best" Japanese singers would be too long. Venus Gaijin also narrowed it down to female _rock_ singers; that is a vague classification for a lot of singers who cross over from other genres into the rock genre. Such singers are many in Japan and as such I would also add Momiji Okubo (of Wang Dang Doodle / Mr.MOMIJI BAND / MOMIJI & The Bluestones / BLUES SISTERS from RESPECT) as a fifth top favourite one to my list.

I can't see another vocalist for Lovebites that would replace Asami, same with Saiki in Band-Maid. There are many female Japanese vocalists that I love and appreciate. But none more than the pristine, crystal clear, piercing vocals of The Queen, Su-Metal. Suzuka is definitely my favorite singer, everything she sings sounds like angels to me. She is constantly improving and evolving. Her stamina, her range and the control over her pitch are extremely impressive to me. And when she needs to be technical, she can do it flawlessly. She can also switch styles of singing from song to song. And the fact that she always sounds better live than in the studio recordings is a testament to her craft. I also have to mention her stage presence, it's very powerful and captivating, her stare is second to none. Her personality on and off stage is wonderful. The way she holds herself and interacts with the crowd and with Moa, Momo, and previously Yui, is always fun to watch. And she is just a through and through genuinely good person. Very endearing and lovable. Her love for singing and the joy she gets from it is also very evident, in turn that joy is highly contagious. I am never not happy watching her perform. I really hope she gets to keep singing forever and ever. In the end, I love her voice the most because it sounds the best to me in my ears and her voice moves me more than any other. Everything she sings impresses me, but here is a short list that really shows off her vocals. 1 BABYMETAL // Starlight (Metal Galaxy day 2) 2 Monochrome live on The First Take (2023) 3 Akatsuki Unfinished Version, Legend 1997 (2013) (Do the 90% less blue edit..) 4 Rondo of Nightmare, Budokan Black Night (2014) 5 From dusk Till Dawn, live at Budokan (2021) 6 Headbanger (Avenger Era) 7 Tamashii no Rufuran, Legend 1997 (2013) And many many more.. I like Saiki and Band Maid, straight metal without frills or attitude. Wagakki Band and Lovebites are sure interesting and worth checking out, not least because of their lead vocalists. I'm not a big fan of screams and growls, so while Mayu seems to be a good singer, Nemophilia is just not really my thing. But my heart and my love will always belong to Babymetal and Su-Metal especially. Her voice can paint deepest despair or soar with hope and joy that brings tears to your eyes or rally armies around her with an anthemic battle cry, all the while cutting through the fattest of guitar riffs with ease. Some here have already mentioned her superb technique in "From Dusk Til Dawn". From more recent times, the First Take version of Monochrome has to be mentioned. Her vocal qualities sometimes obscure what an exceptionally sharp and agile dancer she is, let alone combining both talents in Babymetal's performances. Although she had incredible stage presence from a very young age, she has also moved on in that respect and loosened up while engaging with the crowd. In doubt, watch fancam footage from the 2023 tour, especially the last three concerts in Milano, Barcelona and Madrid. All in all, a great list. Japanese female metal seems to be one of the most interesting hotbeds of talent right now. Thanks for putting this together!

All these people saying Su-metal is still young. She's 26, guys. Not the kid that started in Babymetal. She's aged well into her place, I'll give her that. Oh, and Mayu is the same age. Mayu and Saiki from this list are my top spots for different reasons. I love the variety, and energy, in Mayu's vocals. And Saiki is just professional! She delivers on a level many aspire too.

Suzuka's voice is still young, it has a clear margin for evolution, this last tour we have started to hear some very interesting bass for example.

All the singers mentioned in this video are really great. Some more that really impressed me: - Nana (Fate Gear, Gungire, Theo Nova): She can do screams and clean vocals alternately and what particularly impressed me, was that she can deliver it perfectly on stage as well, while with many other singers you don't really get the same as in the studio recording, but from Nana you get a 100%. - Io Nozukidaira (Broken By The Scream): She has a really deep growl and she is a good clean singer as well, even though she only does cleans in the choruses in BBTS. - Regan (Saiseiga): Powerful "medium-deep" scream and a really strong clean voice. - Angelina 1/3 (Gacharic Spin): She also does rapping and a little screaming, but what I like most about her is the very emotional singing in songs like "Lonely Mart" from their current album. Anyway, Gacharic Spin has not less than four members (Angie, Hana, Oreo, Tomo-Zo) who do lead vocals which is one top quality of this band. - Yoiko (Shinshi Todoroku Gekijou no Gotoku): Probably my favourite rapper from Japan but it's the combination of voices that makes Shingeki excellent and one of my two favourite idol groups.

I don't understand why anybody would do these comparison videos..likes i suppose...But it only serves to divide the fans of these bands for no good reason.. most are fans of every single Japanese band.. the singers serve their bands genres each quite well.. and many if not all respect and are even friends with each other. Stop this..

Was mentioned Miki (or Haru) from Bridear? Or singers from Aldious, especially Rami and Re:No? Or Ibuki from Deliqua (or what was the name) or Saki from Cynthia (different from Saki from Nemophila :-)). I also recommend to check the legendary Show-Ya and their singer. BTW. Really nice video. You will have lots of work to make a list from theese comments and to go through it. Good luck.

Thanks for the video. I am just starting to realize how many good Japanese metal bands they are. I only knew Babymetal before mid-last year, and now I am a huge Nemophila and Hanabie fan. Any Japanese metal fans out there willing to help educate me on other bands I should listen to? (Note: I use metal in a loose term. I know there are tons of genres and such, so I am open to anything - including some that may fall into what others would just say is rock)

The question of who is the best singer is easily answered - Yuko Suzuhana, Shigin is only a small part of what she can do, her musicality, control and range are phenomenal, no strain, never needs to belt. The question of who is the best vocalist is also pretty easy, they all are! You could not swap any two of them around without diminishing both bands. Each is the perfect vocalist for the band they are in.

Thanks for good video. My favorite is Su-Metal in this list. Her voice is so beautiful! My new favorite is Akane from "East of Eden". As a female singer, Fuyuki "Fuki" Tenge is the #1 for me, she is unbelievable. Other faves: Asami, Marina Hebiishi, Mayu (of course), Regan from Saiseiga (by my opinion she is on par with Mayu). As screamers/growlers: Yukina, the 4'9'' tasmanian devil from Hanabie and BBTS's Io Nozukidaira (br00tal gutturals!). Honorable mentions: Matsuri from Hanabie (unique timbre) and EYE.

Great picks. Band Maid is easily my favorite group on this list, but Suzuhana and Suzuka are, I think, the strongest singers. Saiki's strength is her presence in the ensemble. Her sophisticated sense of rhythm and dynamics, and her flexibility, work really well in Band Maid's complex arrangements, and gives the instrumentalists room to be creative. She sang those complicated lead parts for two hours in the show I saw this past summer and was strong throughout.
