Fun fact about the MLS, non contracted players (player who have no boot sponsor) are required to wear adidas boots. So most clubs have a closet full of boots that adi sends them. And they're almost always FG boots.

Just a segment suggestion: At the beginning of the show, how about you talk about a player who's shares or played with the number that the podcast episode is at! Like next week you can spend a few minutes talking about an awesome player who wore number 22! And I know we're a bit past the more legendary numbers but you can talk about two players each episode till we catch up to whatever podcast number we'll be at! Thanks Jardon & Jay!

@Bootnerds Thanks for the answer guys! I agree that the brands have to innovate and the market has changed. There isn’t as much room for experimentation as there used to be. Takedown of the Mania was called the Predator Manic IIRC. Manias were my first high end model and grew up playing through the 2000’s currently in my late 20’s if you were trying to date me. Good podcast guys!

Thanks for both of your insights. That being said, the only thing that matters to the majority of consumers is price. I can go on Ebay, get a Tiempo Legend 7 elite for $100-$150 vs. Rebula @ ~$300. I understand where you guys are coming from but let's be honest, the overwhelming majority of consumers cannot or will not purchase a Mizuno for that price tag. Especially considering we are talking minutiae - in terms of performance - here.
@BootNerds5 жыл бұрын
It's a very fair point you're making Chris and I do agree. However, the reason I'm pushing Mizuno so hard also to people who aren't AS hardcore into boots as we are is the build quality - you simply have a boot that's built to last, so instead of doing like some of my team mates do and buy two pairs of Legend 7s per season, you can get one Rebula 3 which will last you a very long time. In the end though, you're right - but for people willing to pay 280-300$ for top boots it's an alternative I feel they need to know about as well. /Jay

I rewatched Josh’s review of the Rebula 2 from December and he liked it a lot at the time, but now six months later him and Jay Mike seem really down on it.
@lepari99865 жыл бұрын
Yeah, these two are my favourite football nerds, but that's my biggest/only(?) gripe as well. I thought the Rebula (1 & 2) reviews from both of them were really positive ("this is amazing/it") and they liked the boot a lot in the near past, then suddenly few months later both rank it 7/10 (which isn't bad but not too great either) and have plenty of negatives, some of which are the same things that were positives just a while ago. Of course opinions can change but a U-turn considering fit or comfort is weird. Especially after reviewing the boot at least two times with months apart. I like Jabulani's honesty when he for example says that the x 19.1 isn't a huge upgrade on the x 18.1 since I agree totally. Maybe Mike can't be overly negative on just released models since he works for a company that sells them. Rebula 3 seems a great update in every way but I wonder are they drastically more negative towards it in six to twelve months. I get the 30 year old boots get outdated (most anyway ;)) but seems weird when it happens to a relatively new model. Credit to Jay as well mentioning the heel issues in the 2 review as well. Good episode this anyway. Will definitely buy a pair when the price drops a bit.
@BootNerds5 жыл бұрын
Hi guys, it's a great question, so let me elaborate a bit. Keep in mind these are my thoughts on the matter, and Josh's might differ - but I think we're in the same boat on this, actually. It's a fair point and to be honest the Rebula 2 is one of those boots where I've simply changed my mind too much for me to really like the video we did at the launch. For me personally, I made the mistake of focusing too much on the leather and how nicely and comfortably the boot fit me while we were shooting the review - even after 2 months of testing (which is a long period by my standards). Actually I'd decided to be a little harder on it, but when we shot the video, I had second thoughts because the boots FELT better than I'd written in my script in the moment and moving around. So it's not wrong what I say (cause I felt it at the time...), but I should've stuck to the thorough testing I'd done before. I guess excitement over the leather quality got the better of me. In other words - something might happen to Rebula 3 in terms of durability etc, but I'm pretty confident I'll also love it in 12 months time. Only problem is that it's a tad wide for me, but that's not something I feel should 'punish' the boot rating. A lot of people have asked me about the Phantom VSN too, which I also gave a good review and now am more critical about. I also think there are a lot of positives in that boot if you're looking for things like a super soft upper, lots of texture or a clean striking surface. I just don't care for the build quality and that god awful collar and the more well built boots come out, the more it annoys me. The trick when you review is to be as objective as possible - ESPECIALLY when you dislike something, because I know that there will be people out there who might enjoy those things. Anyway, good shout to bring this up and it's of course something both Josh and I try to work on - getting as consistent as possible. Sometimes, people change opinion, but in the ideal world, we'd say the same thing 2 years after release as we did 2 weeks after. /Jay

@@BootNerds Sounds reasonable :) Maybe my own opinions on boots would also change more easily if I got to try almost every released model and compare them. Thanks for the thorough answer.

hey JM and JV, since you two have been in Japan under Mizuno, have you considered going there again for Asics? Also, compare the Made In Japan boots with Made In Italy or Made in Germany in terms of quality, workmanship and aesthetics.

Does my position should affect the boots that I should wear ? I used to wear ctrs and after magistas but when I couldn't buy them anymore , I made the switch to the new predators that I just hat . Is it okay to buy the Phantom Vision if im a midfielder since jay mike on unisport said that it was the perfect striker shoes ? Thanks, great content
@BootNerds5 жыл бұрын
When did I say this? Because in short, no, you can't choose your boots based on your position. If I've called the Phantom Vision the perfect striker's boot, I must've been a little drunk. The Venom, however, has a lot of features that strikers are usually looking for, but to say that you NEED to wear it as a striker would be very, very wrong of me. You can wear whatever you like and it won't massively affect your performance. It's about feeling good mentally, and you'll simply be able to focus more on playing well. /Jay

My problem with leather boots is that i feel that they are stretching too much over time, so even tho i like them i dont really buy them. Do you guys have any tip or answers to this problem? Cause i would really like to find a leather boot that i can use over a season or two.
@samgarrib52645 жыл бұрын
Hi guys, like your podcasts. i had the rebula 1 mij in size 42 1/2, it felt tight but i thought it will stretch over time but it didn't stretch that much and the shape of the boot was weird, i was in discomfort in it and i didn't like the outsole. So unfortunately i didn't wear it that much. For the cost i was 😰😭. So when the rebula 2 came out i didn't want buy it. But watching your video about the rebula 3, i maybe want to try again. So my question is i don't know if i go a size up or if stick with 42 1/2 as you said the shape as change. On the rebula 1 i felt a pressure point in middle of my back heel and little bit on the external side of my feet. Hope you can advise because i don't want to waste again the money i have saved.
