Edgerunners was so good it made me appreciate the game itself on a whole new level. They took the world, and gave it a new perspective like you mentioned in the video. All the locations and weapons and technology are iconic and can be used/found in the game, but the story is completely unique, yet tied to the lore of the game. The game in turn incorporated elements of the show into sidequests and easter eggs, and was such a nice treat.

I never in my life would imagine that Sonic the Hedgehog would not only have a trilogy of live-action films that people were genuinely excited about, but they also have a better reputation than the Minecraft movie.

Adapation wise across the board, I notice the best adaptations of games tend to be “cross media”, in that they’re as important & given as much support as their mainline games. The big example? Pokémon. The Pokémon anime arguably is as important as the games for establishing the world of Pokémon. Its most viewers’ first introduction to Pokemon and establishes a lot of the lore and additional characters. The video games are phenomenal but its like the anime as an adaptation is vital.

There's only a few things to get an adaptation right: passion, story notes, fanbases and visuals. I'm open to changes that can expand upon the story or new perspectives, but if you're in it for the money then you know it will fail. If you can get those points right then you got a pretty successful adaptation

i would argue that sound is incredibly important as well if we take Doom for example or games like Hellblade, Control and Bioshock. There is a certain soundscape and atmosphere that is integral to the experience in many games especially on the topic of music. Even if all points you mentioned are present if they miss in terms of good sound design and music then that would be a big minus point or in some cases can even outright make the adaptation a bad one.

To be *slightly* fair to the sims, there are townies with like, established characteristics and stuff. If its not some soap opera where someone gets pregnant by aliens and dies by a meteorstrike leaving the bastard in their partners care or some fundumb shit Ill be. Not upset, it just seems like the easiest/better imo route and I cant see much else. Maybe thats me not being creative enough to think of a way to adapt the bizzarro world of sims tho.

for me, one of the most important things that make or break an adaptation is that the movie version needs to stand on its own. it needs to have cohesion and be pleasant to people who just like movies and have never played a videogame before. i guess thats the first step to making a good adaptation. im glad you mention in your video how its not just about doing a one-to-one copy, bc that would never work without the creators taking into account the differences between mediums (just take a look at the lion king remake) AND since u mentioned silent hill, im just gonna go ahead and say it: the 1st silent hill movie was really good and the only reason silent hill fans dont like it is bc they cant accept it as a different story. im ready to die on this hill

Without that ‘how many years was it?!’ long story line of putting nearly every marvel comic together, I say video game movies have a huge chance at winning people over. Especially when they stay separate from each other. - I would like to see how that ‘Arcane’ show is like, but I still refuse to touch Netflix after that one incident that was just recently removed.

Some video games work /because/ they’re a video game, that’s the medium they were created for and an adaptation into a different one is just pointless at best. But when it works? If they’re made with care and appreciation for that medium and the fans, then you love to see it, really. Personally, I hold the live action Ace Attorney movie dear to my heart. Sure, it’s not perfect by any means (and it probably makes no sense if you haven’t played the game lmao), but as a fan it was such a joy to see, flaws and all. Btw, I just found your channel some days ago and I’m loving your vids! You’re gonna go far!

I think the problem is that unlike superhero movies, that has a precise formula with recurring elements to put in a movie, a videogame based movie needs more thought of what elements and story portrait, that's why some of the latest are good movies and a lot of others are awful

I think it would be cool to see a Little Nightmares movie, ideally using stop motion animation, similar to Coraline. Or maybe a blend of CG and mimicking stop motion effects, much like the games do. There is so much potential for creepy, uncanny visuals and emotional resonense, especially if fan favourite Six is the protagonist

Single player games will be the future of movies but the only way they are gonna succed is that they gotta be made by people who actually played and loved the series and have both references for veterans but also understood for new commers.All i wish for,is a good and lore acurate DOOM movie,as its one of my favourite games franchises but also a bloodborne/subnautica/titanfall/dishonored movie would be goated

Well, that's partly what's been happening with the Sonic movies because of the fact that the director of them (Jeff Fowler) is a major fan of Shadow and he also worked on the opening cutscene of that character's 2005 spin-off game! So the Sonic movies are luckily being directed by a guy who has a good amount of intrest in the Sonic frachise and was involved with the production of that one of the early 2000s 3D Sonic games.

Some adaptations are good and the ones that are bad are backed by money cash grabbing studios that don’t look at the source material or look into it and change so much of it that in the end its not like the original material. Amazing video Mason ❤️

People that were kids when the games came out are now grown up and can infulence the movie industry more. That's why we're getting such a big turn around, while the snobby execs are starting to get backlash every time they pull their usual crap with these video game movies as is the case with the Minecraft trailer. The status of these movies are that it's alot better but I think it'll take one more big push to open the flood gates and get everybody to look at what they can do. Most likely in the form of a second billion dollar video game movie, Sonic 3 has some serious potential to be that this year it all depends on how well it clicks with people.

Well in the Sonic movies Tails is being voiced by his current official English in-game VA. Paramount decided to let Colleen O'Shaughnessey reprise her role as Tails in the movies, and I heard that the reason why was because they figured that her cute voice fit in soo well that there was no reason to change it. Also in the Wreck it Ralph movies Rodger Craig Smith reprised his role as the voice of Sonic whenever that speedy blue hedgehog showed up and spoke dialogue in the 2 movies from that franchise as a cameo character. So sometimes video game voice actors do get to reprise their roles in movies/tv adaptions, and those are some of the times that it did happen. (they don't always get replaced)

I always have been in the side of what you say PASSION and is not just for Videogames, comicbooks, hell another trend I hope someday happen is ANIME/MANGA adaptations done right and been mega successful, the key will always be passion, in anything, you put someone who cares and make the best effort to bring this iconic games and stories to life, at BARE MINIMUM, you will get a Mortal Kombat 95, or a Silent Hill (the FIRST FILM who still I will forever defend as a movie that came the wrong time, that same movie NOW, would have been a mega hit)......we now living in possible the best time to be a video game fan, and still there is this fear everytime they announce an adaptation.........I fear what they could do with Street Fighter as that my favorite game franchise and the 2 times we got a live action........1 was HILARIOUSLY BAD (rest in Power Raul Julio, we didn't deserve you) and the other........we not talk about the other, but there have been also several GREAT adaptations of Street Fighter, the ANIMATED FILM is in my opinion one of the best adaptations ever made, the Web series Assassin Fist made by passionate fan s who also are film makers and martial artist capture the essence of the story of Ryu, Ken, Gouki, Gouken and Akuma (Gouki), and Street Fighter II Victory is a different take in anime of the story of the world warriors that still works perfectly..........so can be done, again the key is and always will be PASSION.........The Sonic films shows, that, the Mario film ooze that, hell all the good COMIC BOOK ADAPTATIONS we got where made with passion and care, if not there wouldn't had been successful, so hope videogames get that treat, talented and passionate film makers that love the world and characters as MUCH as we do, so finger cross to the future and.............if not...........................WELL AT LEAST WE HAVE ARCANE XD.

Arcane lost me in the first episode when a previously established highly sensitive explosive didnt go off while jangling around in baby jinxs pocket running from the cops. Or when they left loot in a river as though a world like that has nobody with a diving set up who would take payment from the loot to help them. Some things are acceptable plot contrivances. The explosives? Thats a straight up plot hole. The ball went tink tink *boom* in the study, but nothing happened the whole chase scene? Nah. Stitch up your plot holes, your junk is showing.
