I actually just bought my first zippo at Walmart! Before I even filled it I repacked it using your method of reshaping the wick and unraveling the factory cotton and combining it into strips, 2 on each side, one on the bottom and then sandwich bagged it. It’s been great!

I just picked up a Street Chrome Zippo at Wal-Mart a couple hours ago for about $11 USD. They had some there that were the exact same lighter but with the sticker added and they were like $17. I know from experience that stickers don't last long so I got the plain one. I LOVE the look and feel of this thing. It's duller and darker than a high polish chrome and has a really slight texture which is great for me because it gives a little grip. I'm one of those annoying cats who's trickin' and dickn' with the thing all day lol. I put my Zippo brand yellow flame butane insert in there and it gives a great weight to it. This one looks and feels like it's been bouncing around in my pocket with my knife and coins for a decade or so already. Love it. Thanks for your videos Mike. I'm really digging em. You got a sub out of me amigo. Oh I also wanted to mention that I'm not a box saver so the plastic packaging doesn't bother me at all. I'd rather save a few bucks lol. But I totally understand that draw of a nicer box. I'm fussy and OCD about some things and not others lol.

Nice buds !!! Yeah Walmart zips are the way to go. U can lose em break em trick em. They have the same warranty but great value for not getting the box. Good job staying away from the stickers lol. Maybe next time pick up a matte or a crackle. Yeah the street chrome is an out of the package edc. I do like the yellow flame for that exact reason. Extra weight is clutch. My question is whether a plain brass or chrome lighter is actually made from solid brass, or if they're made from a cheaper metal and then plated accordingly? I'd like to thing the cases are made of solid brass and then plated accordingly. If that's the case, is there a difference in the Walmart blister-pack version and the nicer boxed version? If they are not made from brass, what are the cases made from, and how can you tell which are solid brass and which are other? Always enjoy the Zippo Fanatic videos. Thanks!

I’ve bought at least 4 over the last few years. I have them in drawers here and there in the house unopened just in case. However I am still on my first one I opened. It’s no different in quality from my brass one. 3 years, still on the same wick. Hinge is a little loose, but I use it throughout the day. Everyday.

I got my Zippo lighter from Walmart but since I don't really like sticker designs due to them not lasting very long I settled down with the old fashioned smooth gold brass design I want my Zippo lighter to look as if it was a Hundred dollars that's why I didn't settle with the traditional chrome design

I kinda find it funny how Zippo uses stickers that die within an year and then charge for the sticker design accordingly. I got a Vikings one which is now plain street chrome after the Vikings sticker died within months 😂

At one point I was seeing a lot of videos on KZbin of people trying to see if they are bulletproof. Something I found interesting, I have about a dozen zippo lighters. Out of the dozen, 2 came from Walmart. They look, feel, and function just like any other Zippo that I have or have had basically. The 2 I got from Walmart are a Street chrome and a matte black. I was doing all kinds of different stuff to my Zippos one day because I thought my Glow in the dark might be fake. I was comparing literally everything, using my calipers to measure dimensions, and so on. I even went as far as to use a magnet on various parts just because. That is when I noticed something quite strange. Both of the Zippos I got from Walmart (the black more so than the chrome) have very slightly magnetic cases. I’m not saying you can sick a magnet to the side or anything as the pull isn’t very strong. However, if you pull the insert out of the case and hold the case open, you can start to pull the lid up with a magnet. The black one will pull almost closed just with magnetic pull. The chrome one will pull up slightly then the weight of the lid breaks the pull. These are the only 2 lighters in my small zippo collection that have any kind of magnetic pull what so ever. I am curious if anyone else with Walmart Zippos has the same effect. They seem built to the same quality but is the brass used in the case perhaps a different grade? Either way, my Black one is L 14 marked and it has been in steady use since I bought it almost a decade ago. It’s still works like it did the day I bought it. I have no complaints at all with it. I just found it interesting that a brass case could be slightly magnetic like that and that none of my other Zippo lighters have the same thing going on.

I believe the hinge and the cam catch are nickel plated brass. I say this because you can’t weld brass to steel. You can braise brass to steel but they cannot be welded together. Also the hinge assembly is not magnetic at all on any of my zippo lighters. Even if they where made from steel, I am getting the magnetic pull on these 2 lighters from the opposite end of the lid. Like I said, it is very strange. Other than this small detail that I came across by accident basically, you cannot find a difference whatsoever between the Walmart Zippo and others. If you still have a Walmart Zippo or two and a decent powered magnet, I would be very curious as to the results you get when comparing them. I am just 1 person with a very small selection to compare and I do understand that my results may be a fluke. I get the same results constantly from my Walmart Zippos though. Hell, I would send you the black one just to show you I’m not crazy.😂

One explanation I tried to come up with is maybe there is something metallic in the coating they are using and that is causing the magnetic pull. The black one does pull a lot harder than the Street Chrome. My glow in the dark and my black crackle both don’t have any pull at all though. I figure that kinda rules that out. Whatever the case though, I’m not trying to say there is anything wrong with the Walmart Zippo at all. I’m not trying to argue at all either. I’m just simply stating an observation and wondering if anyone else has the same results. I have been using my Black zippo for close to 9 years now and it remains one of my favorite daily users. If I lost it, I would run straight back to Walmart to replace it right away. This was just something I noticed and found interesting.

@@damienmidanik9680 nope not nickel plated brass. Chromed steel. Trust me I’ve made over 100 customs. And I make them by removing chrome off the brass not once have I ever discovered a brass hinge. U know how weak that would. When I remove the chrome off the hinge. It’s just steel under there.

Ok. That still doesn’t explain why a magnet will not stick to the hinge area at all and yet when I put a magnet on the opposite side of the lid, I get a magnetic pull from these lighters. It is very strange. Try a magnet out on a couple cases for yourself and share your results.

perhaps the different is the packing only, a box is probably partly manual assembly, while blister is full automated, and while putting the zippo in the box there is a guy who probably work as QC looking if there is a scratch or some other defect, while on blister everything goes in, its the buyer's job to eyeball and see if that particular piece has a defect or not, just pick another one that looks better if so.

Zippo does not use “stickers” it used to be a 4 color process. They have upgraded maybe 10 years ago or so, so that the designs didn’t rub off as fast by keys and in and out of pocket

But it is my first and it did not feel as i expected it too. Feels like it is made half tin half plastic. I expected it to feel heavy and hard like a gun LOL.

@@Zippofanatic77outdoors Mine has a gigantic lid gap and extremely loose insert that keeps pooping up, also the chimney came bent and the striker wheel sits at a angle because the large gap on the rivet. I still like it but every aspect of it looks and more importantly feels lower quality, that said I bought it to carry it because it’s my favorite 41 so I guess I’m less worried about keeping it cherry. I am a brass guy and all of my zippos are chrome or brass so maybe it’s just a painted zippo thing or I’m being overly picky but when I see the crackle black laying on the table with a giant bright silver line showing through the gap in the lid it just makes my skin crawl like nails on a chalk board.

@@Zippofanatic77outdoors I was debating hard between the brass and crackle but I wound up going with the crackle just because I’m a combat vet and I love that sort of stuff. Down the road I will order a brass just because the quality of the crackle I got. I learned that bag trick from you and it’s a life saver, I have always got 3 days from my zippo now I can pull 6 or 7, thanks for that tip! Back in the 90’s I got my first zippo from my grandpa, it was a early 60’s chrome and in the bottom of it he had a thin slice of cork fitted and I always wondered why that was there, when I seen your bag trick I realized the quark must have been a improvised seal, since then I have came across a few antique zippos and found cork in the bottom, I may have to give that a try and see if it works as well but the bag trick is a life saver!
