It's valid that we can't retire here, we are moving because CA decided we can't buy small gas engines. Having our business as gardeners that rely on mowers, blowers, etc we are leaving. Yes, they sell battery equipment. Whole other debate on that. Of course it's fabulous here, but not everyone can change careers at retirement age. Having a home paid off is a smart move for us. It's easy to say you dont know why people leave if you can have an affordable life and it all works for you.

I so enjoyed this podcast! Glad you have started up again! My husband and I are both close to 80 years old and have decided to move from Washington State to Arizona for health reasons. We have done some serious decluttering because it's expensive to move things that can be replaced after we arrive at the end of our move. Mostly we are moving sentimental items. One of the things that make decisions easier is to remember that we won't be taking anything to Heaven with us except people. Everything else is just "stuff". Prayers for rapid remodel of the kitchen and that the LORD fills your new home with love and peace.

I personally say yes listening to an audiobook counts as reading it! As someone who is dyslexic this is one of the primary ways I read books. Growing up (and still sometimes today) I would listen to books on tape/audiobooks and reading along with the actual book while listening. By reading this way I am able to process and understand what I’m reading.

Absolutely listening to a book counts as reading it. I've always been an avid book reader, however, now that I'm a senior it hurts my eyes to read, so I listen. In truth it's like being a kid again and having your parents read to you. I love it.

I have a dyslexic son. He’s 12 now and can read but it’s sometimes a slow process depending on the content. The mechanics of reading can be super difficult for someone that has a focusing issue. His brain moves so fast so visual reading can be frustrating. Listening to a book also transports him into the book world and his mind enjoys it as much as those who always sight read their books. Open your mind to considering reading an experience for your brain, not just an exercise for your eyes. Reading in whatever form works is beautiful ❤

Yes listening to a book is reading a book. I used to not think so, but then I realized that leaves out anyone with learning disabilities, visual imparement/blindness, and auditory processing issues, among other things. They are still getting the info, and they get to learn and explore the world in a way they wouldn't be able /would be harder to do otherwise. And for people who can read a book with no impairment or disabilities to make that harder, they still should be able to learn and get the info when life is busy and you need to multitasking or relax and take a break.

My son is severely dyslexic. He’s only 10, but he struggles so bad with reading. My husband’s uncle has PCA (Benson’s syndrome) and he has lost his ability to read. Listening is a huge tool for them and how they read a good portion of them time. What if you lost your vision? Would you count it as reading then? I 💯 think that audiobooks are reading and are such a blessing that these groups of people didn’t have even a generation ago. Some people don’t do well listening or are unable to hear, so those people should read the actually book. Whichever way you absorb it better…so listening absolutely counts as reading.

Well reading a book is reading it. Listening to a book is listening to it. Its just 2 different forms of consuming the information. Edit: I cant say I read a book when it wasnt me actually reading it. If somone is reading to me, Im just listening, not reading. When parents read books to children, they cant say, "I read the book" no, they listened to someone reading to them. Congratulations on your move!🎊

I love audiobooks especially when I drive back and forth to LA from Conway, AR. That’s where I discovered “Becoming Free Indeed” and listened on one day of the dative, then followed up with “The Hope We Hold” the next day. I also listen to the Bible and do my daily readings sometimes by audiobook, and sometimes I read along the Bible while the audiobook reads it to me. I’m getting the content. I learned later that I was driving home to Arkansas from LA, listening to your books while you were in Arkansas for Jana’s wedding. The books are wonderful and God has used your experiences to speak to me.

Listening to an audio book definitely counts as reading it. Sometimes, I do zone out briefly but I just rewind and listen to that part again. There are a lot of mundane things, like housework that go much faster with an audio book or a podcast.

We moved to south Orange County from Houston 34 years ago. We have become so accustomed to the weather here, that we would find it difficult to leave! Living expenses and politics are two of our concerns, of course. We describe the 4 California seasons as: Earthquakes, Santa Ana Winds, Drought, and Fire. But, those things do pass! Can’t beat the cool evenings here!

Awe! Congrats guys on the move and next chapter! Although we would love to have you here in Austin, I’m overjoyed to hear all about how content you are in LA! Renovations are tough but hang in there, it will all be worth it in the end. I hope a current state house tour is coming soon! So excited to have y’all back on podcasts!

Yes, Audible or whatever platform you use, to read books…counts as reading a book. My daughter, brother, dad, all have Dyslexia. And, yes, they can read out of a paper book or Kindle but it’s a challenge for them…so for some books, it’s great to have Audible. So grateful for this format. 😊

Oral storytelling long predates books, therefore, I believe audiobooks are a valid option and count as reading. It gives a different perspective and a different experience. Both methods are important!

Audio books definitely count! I’m a big fan of them, because I enjoy reading, but don’t always have the time to sit with a book. I can listen to an audiobook when I’m folding laundry, doing dishes, or driving and learn so much. I think I actually ended up getting Jinger’s audiobook after I got her book, because I was finding it hard to sit with the book when I had so many things going on. But, I was able to listen to it in just a couple of days.😊

Absolutely listening to a book is like reading them. I get just as much or more of the content when I listen.

I listened to the audio version of Jingers book, and it made it more alive and personal for me hearing her reading it, felt like she was really speaking to me. And I really enjoyed her book, i would read it again when im able to buy a physical copy

Reading vs. listening - yes, both are intaking info. I actually have done both on the same title and will get different things depending on the format. I have one mystery series that I like that is in English but interspersed with French. I have the audiobooks, my husband has the physical books. I know how to pronounce everything, he knows how to spell it. We confer with each other for the 'full experience.'

Can’t wait to see the new house and all the upgrades on it. Also, yes audio books count as reading. As a busy mom I look forward to my book “reading” while cooking and doing other chores. I do get into it and really concentrate on what’s being read so I think it counts. 😉

From KC, MO and I work in a library and we totally count listening to audio books as reading books. Especially for the kids reading programs but audio books totally counts! Yes are brains can wonder when listening to an audiobook but that can also happen when I’m trying to read a physical book. So it all counts! Just like a parent reading to their kids or family counts also!
