To be called a mufti by qualification is a great honour. Please people don't give yourself or allow people to call you a name that doesn't befit you status. Clearly this man was living in his head and feeling nice just to be called a mufti without even studying the kitaabs. Even he himself admitted it. But I like his zeal for knowledge, May Allah continue to guide him. Ameen

That is ridiculous... Al-Sheikh is a common name here in Mauritania. Many children have this name... there is a difference between having the literal name "Sheikh" and being a Sheikh. It's not that hard to differentiate... you should be ashamed to speak ill of Mufti Muneer like this. He is a great scholar and an honorable person. Fear Allah.

The fuqaha have said that any name that has self praising (tazkiyat al nafs) is highly disliked and a student of knowledge should not be happy with it.

May Allah reward you brother for all that you do but I would not go by such a title unless I earned and then I still don't know... Its tough being knowledgeable, I've been around a few knowledgeable brothers and their children- people who have no knowledge will treat you in a way that is only for Allah. Most Shuyukh would rather be regarded as laymen.

Yes he is a mufti. It seems to have started it as a kunya. However, it seems to have been wished upon him by the brother hanif Allah uses a derivative in Qur'an in addressing the prophet "they ask you to make legal rulings concerning..." Allah uses same word in suratul yusuf. There's no question that mufti explain Quran ahadith and the ijma of the ulama then advice the common Muslim how to apply them in their everyday life 14 centuries later to make their meanings come alive. It is well known that umar ra use show off ibn Abbas knowledge to the older companions. Lastly, the prophet saw said obey your leader even though he be a kinky headed slave. This command from the prophet indicates clearly that he knew this would plague his ummah. Mufti fits the prophetic description of one who's to be obeyed. There is no ethnic monopoly in Al-Islaam on who's a Mufti. No question the brother is definitely extremely knowledgeable humble sincere and seen to have everyone's best interest at heart and always put the best constriction on a situation in efforts to move what leads to discord. The topics in his lectures are broad they cover many subjects both what is general and specific. If you want to learn al Islam in America listen to mufti. He works around the clock all over the planet teaching al Islam. In conclusion, in the book the principles of tafsir by shaykul Islam ibn taymiyyah he said the pagan Arabs used the word wahi to denote a swift and secretive transfer of information. He gave it to the bee to humans in the form of intuition when He told the mother of musa to put him in the basket when she feared for him and to animals through their natural instinct. The last part of wahi in my limited knowledge in the internet a swift and secretive transfer of various information. It is through the medium of technology by which it seems that the people will enter this din in crowds. And the brother is working over time in over drive. I don't think, even as a joke one should be going around calling themselves a mufti or even allowing others to call someone a mufti who is not one. This is not acceptable. Who are you? If scholars themselves have no problems with it, who are you, an average layman muslim with no qualifications to speak of, to tell him anything ? Cut it out. The Name amir, or Emir comes from the Noble title of Emir. Are you going to now complain about people having that name ? Some people have the last name Qadi, which Is an Islamic judge, will you complain about that? Stop looking for things to complain and be offended about. It's quite frankly ridiculous. The term mufti did not exist under the prophet Mohammed pbuh. It was not mentioned in the Quran. It is just a title. It's not prestigious or anything. It's a title. Stop giving people and terms more importance than they are in reality.
