Beginner or expert I’m always beyond blessed to just be on the mountain! Thank you for all your posts!

I think the five tier system makes sense: -Beginner (side swiper) -Intermediate (links turns on blues) -Advanced (hand grabs, straights rails) -Expert (local contest dude) -Pro (Redbull/Monster Helmet)

Nope. That's a shorty board rider's list. His list is way better. the main thing = do you carve the shit out of your turns? Can you lay em out almost hardboot in soft boots? Watch olympians in the pipe. They CARVE them turns, then do the monster moves. On teeny lil boards. They could all race too. 2nd most important = can you own the mountain with style? then comes your list. also what about powder? can you do 40kph swooping powder turrns on the super-steep? If not you ain't no expert

I watched a kid at Purgatory in the new terrain park back in the day. Great trick rider. THEN I watched him on the lift DEVOUR a few moguls, cut thru the tight trees & stick a 70' frontside 180 into nasty chop off a cat track. Only then did I think "that guy's a pro." Bought him a beer. He was a pro. Owned the park on a 155ish all terrain.... which is how he could stick a monster launch fakie into chop.

The other thing I would like to add is you should be able to do short radius carves on steep and muguled terrain.

The only way to really ride steep terrain, aside from pointing it, is to jump carve from heel to toe edge in a very narrow pattern. It's def an advanced maneuver you rarely see done but once you get it down you can really ride any terrain. A lot of people hit steeps by sliding down on one edge the majority of the time. I don't really consider that being able to ride the run. Ya you're getting down it but not really riding it.

I consider myself an expert. I've been riding since i was 7 years old, and i will be 37 this year, so i better be an expert after almost 30 years.

@@Bigbocks *Can you follow a killer skier anywhere on a brand new mountain in bad conditions?* Without making him wait? while making people on the lift turn their heads? AND do some cool park stuff? Then jump into 6' of powder while staying safe & surfing the FFFF out of it at high speed? Can you safely hike the million dollar highway for spring corn or winter powder? THEN you are an expert. If not ALL of that, you ain't an expert. I never was. I could do everything but the park stuff. I was damn good, but that means I was never an expert.

I definitely feel like I made it to expert this year. Finally throwing butters and switch into my riding as well as some park stuff.

You had me till terrain park & (non-straight) jumps. I could do all the first 3 w style + ride powder like a valdez viideo. Lots & lots of style. I couldn't do shit for tricks though. Probably because I started at 32 after blowing out a knee on skis. Never skated either. Lost a leg if you're wondering about past tense. I'd be back up but I lost all my money fixing the leg.

I'm not a beginner but I don't think I'm intermediate anymore, I haven't ridden much in the past 10 years so this is the first year that I'm going semi regularly so hopefully by the end of the season I feel more like and intrermediate.

Please go to snoqualmie pass! When you went a few years ago you went to summit central. It was a good pow day but at alpental there was 1 foot more powder guaranteed.

I'm almost expert. I can rip the whole mountain without question (except park, but I'm sure I'll get some basics down in that regard soon). At the same time I'm frustrated because I'm really out of shape while I recover from an injury so I can't go as hard as I want to.

Idk why but ever since when I was a jerry and didn't know how to stop I thought I was good enough for a blue and straight lined down at super high speed and caught and edge at probably 40mph and since then i'm scared going fast, When u ride powder you need speed and cause of me being scared and not riding fast enough my board gets buried and I fall and in general I feel like I lose control when I ride 35mph+ I know carving keeps you in control I know how to carve but not that good the more speed the better I can do my turns, If anyone has tips to overcoming the fear of to much speed or how to manage it that would be great

When you’re carrying a lot of speed you want to shift your weight either 70/30 to your back leg or 60/40 to your front leg. Leaning back will eliminate the squirrely feeling of the board, but when you’re leaning back it’s a little harder to carve or scrub speed. When you lean forward it feels more squirrelly underfoot, but you have more ready control to carve and scrub speed. Basically as you get better at it you’ll shift between both ways quickly and be able to shift gears on the mountain. Hope that helps.

I can ride every level of terrain but I haven’t done anything more than a back side 180 because my trips usually are so short I explore the whole mountain instead of park riding 😢, I think above expert would be influencers and then after that you have pros or semi pros, the actual full-fledged sponsored riders

What does it take to call yourself an expert communicater, like a professional who speaks on camera for a living, or even just someone who speaks well? Well, you have to be able to enunciate words correctly. Like being able to pronounce 'mountain'. Mountain has a 't' in it. And it's not pronounced 'mou-in'.
