My brother had this same controversy with this pakeha over us owning sovereignty of our lands, foreshore and sea beds to name of some . Saying this all belongs to the public. My brother look at him and said, let me put it this way. Say your ancestor found this Island and claimed it to be his. He passes away and you become the sole owner of your heritage. I come and make a deal with you in buying some of your land. So we make this contract between the both of us in thesale of this land. In part of this contract though you say you will sell this piece of land to me, but I still own the rights to the shores that is within part of this land and heading 200 miles out to sea all around this island will you still agree to these terms . And you do agree. So we write and sign this agreement up and we both walk away happy and you settle and we all live in piece. Years later. We create muscle farms and oyster farms out at sea without consulting you and find out. What would you do?? This pakeha just turn around and said f**k off we made an agreement. So what if I turn around and say f**k you, what would do then. I will go to f****n war on you. Well now you know how the f**k we feel in this argument. If the commentator could please look into how some of the key differences in the Treaty translation have affected both English and Maori. Outline how each understood the interpretation. Please expand futher on the way the current legislation represents the interpretation and how this positively and negatively may be impacting our NZ people. It is important Kiwi's as a whole body are educating on the topic honestly and with the level of respect our founding document deserves.

The treaty of Waitangi was written in English to be translated into Maori, the littlewood version, and it says Maori ceded sovereignty, and by 1865 had sold 93% of the land. Maori want separate government but they want us to pay for it and they want veto rights on every decision. By 1837 you were fighting again and pleaded with the crown for a treaty. The French wanted to annex NZ.
