Also Kerri's commentary on the Lesbian Bar story is 100% on point (i'm a lesbian). I hate the fetishisation or treating our safe spaces like "themed" bars ... I can't count the amount of times I've been hit on by men IN LESBIAN SPACES and had them harrass me and girls i've been with in those spaces. The straight people getting uncomfortable at being hit on in a gay bar is so annoying tbh because I don't think they understand gay bars are the ONE place on earth we can actually approach people like straight people can. Literally everywhere else we can't approach people because the assumption is they're straight. It's especially important to have these spaces for queer women, as we're not socialised to pursue anyone and we're hyper aware of making women uncomfortable bc we've experienced being made uncomfortable as women. So as a result, queer women in general have a really hard time hitting on other women.

The SIL announcing her pregnancy at the funeral is insane. My brother in law’s fiancé had a brother pass away in his early 20’s. I asked before bringing my baby to the visitation and funeral because I didn’t want it to be triggering to the parents. (They actually said they wanted her there as she was a nice distraction and we are all close despite not being blood related).

Not to mention that a vehicle can function perfectly fine without a catalytic converter. It might be a bit louder while the car is idling, but it doesn't compromise the safety of anything mechanically. It is technically illegal to drive without one though. Regardless, MIL could have easily found the time and driven herself to a shop to get a new one. The car issue was just an excuse and a bad one at that.

My opinion on the babysitter payment story : The person who pays for dinner shouldn't also have to pay for a sitter. Esp when they don't have a kid themselves. What about the 4 who don't pay for dinner, split the babysitting cost, or work something else out! OP absolutely should NOT have to contribute a single penny to the other womens babysitting fund.

TW? Autism discussion: I sleep with stuffed animals, always have. I bought a huge triceratops squishmallow during the pandemic and named him Daniel, we now have 3/4 different sized Daniels with names like Danny, Daniela, ect. They’re all cousins, one is even a doctor when my partner puts his glasses on it 😅. It’s become a long running joke with me and my partner and we laugh about it often… Fast forward 3 years, I got diagnosed with Autism, personification of inanimate objects can often be an autistic trait and childlike objects are a comfort. I’ve since switched to a giant snorlax (Pokémon plushie) to sleep with and me and my partner still makes jokes about it, but he doesn’t care he joins in the fun. (He’s not thrilled about losing the extra bed space though) He also might be autistic, but undiagnosed. I think it’s about finding someone who enjoys the silliness too. We often talked about bids on this podcast and I think this is a bid for something lighthearted and silly.

Scrolled down specifically to find a comment like this. As a nearly 30 year old autistic woman, it sounded VERY much to me like the fiance was autistic and burnt out, meaning she could no longer mask as much as before. I know it wasn't intentional at all, but hearing them going on and on and ON about how stark raving mad they seemed to think she was was EXTREMELY ablist and COMPLETELY INFURIATING to me. I kept waiting for a comment or update to namedrop autism, and them to backpedal HARD, but sadly it never came. And even if it turned out she isn't autistic, what is so damn bad about coming up with silly little backstories for your adorable collection of plushes as a stress reliever??? Yes, it was a little silly to get upset over a dream your partner had, but emotional attachment and responses don't always make sense. And we don't know how OP explained the dream and his unease surrounding it to her either! Who is she hurting by doing this anyway??? What's the big damn problem??? Sounds like OP communicated his needs in the end and now his fiance is specifically carving out time for him. Not only that, but he is engaging in her silly little fantasies and strengthing their relationship while doing so! My partner and I do silly shit with each other and buy each other plushies and whatever ALL THE TIME. The reaction to the story was so disgusting and hurtful, I swear, original Reddit comments included. Why do people have to be so nasty?? I know this video (and this comment) are older, but GOD I had such a powerful reaction that I COULD NOT let it go without throwing out my two cents.

Totally agree!!! Im also autistic, and have a comfort plushie (a Monchichi plushie 🥺). When im extremely stressed, exhausted or burnt out, i take Monchichi with me everywhere and hold her all day long too. My partner will hype up me and my Monchichi. They will remember to pack my plushie for when we go to new events, and even sends me memes or things that remind them if Monchichi, an ask to take pictures and selfies together with my plushie too. The discussion of the last story did make me feel a bit discouraged and sad but im really happy the fiancé ended up playing along and felt that his partner was worth the effort!!! That was sweet, I hope they have a happy marriage with Kevin 😆

For 1:10:13 Morgan, the reason we have toenails is to protect our bones. So whenever you bump your pinky toe into the coffee table and it hurts, your nail is protecting your bones because they can be so easily broken. Seriously! I have a bunch of tattoos and a cover up and I've always been told, cover ups have to be bigger to properly cover the design with shading and they're usually more painful since there's existing scar tissue. It's an unfortunate situation, but I feel the placement might make it harder too. I shudder at the thought of a cover up on the neck

With the tattoo story: Laser removal is incredibly painful and most of the time you cannot use numbing cream. I’m in the middle of laser removal and it’s one of the worst pains I’ve ever felt and I gave birth with no medication. It feels akin to putting your body part in hot grease and it heals about the same as a burn would. Once it heals, you have to go through the cycle over again because one pass never takes the ink out and sometimes they’re never removed completely. I think the mom is perfectly ok with not deciding to go through that pain. However, a coverup may be easier if it’s just lettering. I AM removing an entire sleeve so it may be easier/less painful to remove a small tattoo, but the laser tech did a quick pass on my husband’s small finger tattoo because he was heckling me while I was going through the procedure and it brought tears to his eyes. I often leave shaking and nauseous from the pain.

I thought it was an ok comparison! It’s like if you had new partner that was uncomfortable with your ex’s name on you in such a visible place. That choice is way more likely to go wrong than your child changing their name but I think it could help some people understand. Either way I get the tattooed person not wanting to change their body so it should 100% be their choice. But I do think because it’s your child it would be kind to consider changing it.

The tattoo story. For me the mom and child just really need to sit down and have a heart to heart. Personally the way I see it is that mom got that tattoo as an expression for herself because their child is a part of them. So there wasn’t any bad intentions but I think the child needs to take a step back a little. I get that it’s your dead name and that’s not you anymore but that part of you was a part of your mom’s life and it will not go away. Either a cover up or sitting talking and coming to understanding of each other or even giving the tattoo a new meaning for both of them. But honestly it’s kinda a story of a lesson for everyone that names just aren’t something to get tattooed
@MUDMASK13
@MUDMASK13 6 ай бұрын
honestly, besides the fact that trans people don’t need reminders of their deadnames and that can cause pretty bad dysphoria and uncomfortable feelings, and that the mom having an attachment to their child should be about who the child really is not just who the child was in the past, it’s deeper than that. Not all trans people want it to be known that they’re trans. Having your parent have both of their children’s names tattooed and one being a deadname can make it easily identifiable that that child is trans, and cause safety risks for the child outside of the mental health reasons. all trans ppl have different feelings, but if you got that tattoo bc you love your kid, why would you wanna keep it knowing it’s hurting the kid you love?

The mother should not have to go through a painful procedure or a tattoo cover-up of a tattoo that she might not want just because her kid came out as trans… just because you are trans does not mean you get final say and you get to decide what’s right and what is it and everyone else has to conformed your exact way of thinking and what you want or else they are in the wrong Also, what if the mother is still attached to the kids she used to have and that could be a reason to why this tattoo is a very meaningful to her among many other reasons … after all, it is her body and her tattoo

A partner throwing something is a deal breaker for me, and was a wake up call in my last relationship. I let him treat me like shit for years, but it wasnt until he started throwing and kicking things that the blinders came off and could see all the other ways in which he disrespected me. If hes willing to throw something at you, then the moment he doesnt have an object to grab he will inevitably throw hands.

Also worthwhile to have a safeword with friends (if you have anyone close by who can come and pick you up or come and physically be with you) to let them know you're scared and need backup without your partner reading the message and knowing exactly whats happening. There may be online communities to seek advice and support from people who have gone through this. This isnt your fault, you deserve better and I hope you are eventually able to get away from him. I’ve had things thrown at me and stayed. Even had an ex spit in my face and stayed. It takes a lot, sometimes for the blinders to come off. I hope hers comes off before he gets worse, because it will happen. He wanted to degrade her and make her feel as small as she made him feel with her comment or question. But I don’t blame her for it. She is pregnant and I know I had highlighted emotions at that time, and for someone to act like they are flat out ignoring you, while trying to have a serious conversation, I would have probably said the same thing.

On story 6: I feel like her daughter only recently coming out makes the removal of the name a little premature. I have no doubt the transition is real and not a phase, but her identity is being explored and may keep maturing and changing for a bit. It’s possible she likes the look or it is part of another tattoo. Cover ups, while cheaper, often end up much larger and darker than the original tattoo, and it’s on her neck so it could be a bit much. Removal is painful and expensive and takes time often requiring multiple sessions, and often scars leaving the general outline/shape of the tattoo, so she may be left with the name in a scar anyways. If it’s easy to remove or cover I would personally want to do it for her, but I don’t think asking her to be patient is unreasonable either. I do also want to say, getting your children’s names tattooed on you is NOT the same as a boyfriend you might break up with. A good parent will always be their parent, and I doubt any parent thinks their kid will transition. Most children don’t change their name, or even if they do wouldn’t be offended by the old one. The girl isn’t unreasonable for not liking seeing it or wishing it was gone, but I don’t think most parents would equate a boyfriend’s name to the children’s name in terms of risk factor.
@mangopyxi
@mangopyxi 2 ай бұрын
I definitely disagree. We only get to pick our kids' names because they can't. We should be ready for them to change them if they wish. It should not be up to us, and getting a tattoo of your child's name across your neck lacks foresight. What child wants to see even their own name like that? And I am tired of people acting like significant others are not as important. We absolutely must protect our kids first. It is our responsibility. But there are wayyy too many people who don't give a shit about their husband or wife but adore their children. Balance, folks. If you don't give a shit about them, leave. That is it. Unless you guys have some arrangement that is none of my business. But don't teach your kids that is love and marriage. Okay, tangent over. The thing that bothers me is that your child said it visibly upsets them, and you are acting like this is about showing them you support them. It is about needing to help them not hurt. Support is the bare minimum. You can ask them to be patient. You can try to come up with other solutions. You can put forth some effort. You said she is being ridiculous! This is why I think that parent is the asshole.
@longlostgf
@longlostgf 8 күн бұрын
“i doubt any parent thinks their kid will transition” then they’re not prepared as a parent. and tbh, although the odds may let them get away with that assumption, the broader problem here is parents’ attachment to their own idea of who their kids are, and transness is just one prominent manifestation of that problem. ironically, holding on too hard to who the parent thinks their kid was is how they might end up not being their kid’s parent one day.

About the tattoo story- I’ve been told getting tattoos removed by laser is extremely painful. So expecting someone to do that is a little entitled. I understand it’s a teenager and maybe they aren’t thinking about what exactly they’re asking but to me it sounds entitled. Maybe a cover up if possible would be better but again it’s OP’s body so they should have the choice to do what they want with it just like the daughter had that same choice.

I do disagree with you guys on story 6. Getting a tattoo or getting one removed is body modification. Unless it's a literal slur, I don't think anyone has a right to expect someone else to do something like that. It's understandable why OP's daughter might be uncomfortable, but I don't think OP's daughter has fully thought through what they are demanding their mother to do. I do agree that OP should consider the idea of getting it covered or modified, and birth month flower is a great idea for that btw, but if they ultimately decide they don't want to, it's still an NTA from me.

Ok story 6 i have a few diffrent feelings on this. I am trans and i would NEVER ask my parent get my named removed. They are a newly transitioned kid, their feelings are raw. Cover it temporarily with a scarf or something. Yes they are "Anna" now but they used to be whatever their deadname is, thats still apart of them and they need to come to terms with that, in order for Anna to really thrive as a person they need to come to terms with who they were in the past. You wouldn't ask your mom to take down their baby/younger child pictures? Again i am a trans person. I was a kid once, my mother was extremely supportive but my father hated me, Anna is lucky their mother is supportive.

Story 6: As a trans person, I fully agree with Anna. Her parent does not fully support her if they do not get the tattoo removed. The tattoo is hurting Anna. If you love your kid you would do a simple and easy thing to stop hurting them and start affirming them. The parent is being garbage about this. Why does the parent still want the tattoo so badly? It is going to be a point of conversation frequently since its on the neck. Anna has to see her dead name every day from her own parent and have her transness explained in every conversation where someone asks about the tattoo. I'm heated about this one

I dont think anyone should do something to their body to appease someone else. Just because you have the money doesnt mean you can "afford" it and even if you can afford it doeant mean you WANT to deal with the issues from it. However, you have to weigh the pros and cons. OPs kid is young and in that phase they really think that tattooed name means something. The relationship could be damaged due to the age and mental state of the child. If they were an adult Id.out and out say no but given the childs age I think OP needs to talk more with their kid.

The teenager is currently a teenager. Context is key here. Their feelings are valid but can be overwhelming and hard to pin down. *Especially* at that age. Maybe it is the tattoo or maybe it's a lot of other things but the tattoo is there and tangible so you can point at it and direct all the strong feelings there. I did that too, believing it was the most reasonable conclusion. "That is the problem, get rid of it and no more pain." Only to find out it was a tiny piece of the puzzle. Again, their feelings are VALID. They are not crazy, if anything it's normal. Even the stonewalling is normal. Lord knows I did that to my mom too. They have the right to feel however they feel but they don't have the right to demand someone changes something about their own body. Telling them if they don't make the change to their own body and go through physical pain for them then they don't actually love them is particularly harsh. The tattoo was never malicious, the tattoo changes nothing about who they are or who they will be. They have feelings about it and that's fine but they need time to work through and process those feelings. Then maybe the tattoo discussion can be revisited. When both parties are ready to listen to each other and not make demands or blanket statements about who doesn't love who. But I wasn't very reasonable as a teenager and waiting to work through my feelings felt like an eternity. Especially when the problem seemed so black and white. So I'm not judging in the slightest. I'd be a hypocrite if I did.

She needs to get mental health help for her to cope with the issue of seeing her dead name and getting triggered by it. Not subject someone else to punishment for her traumas. Because I guarantee this will not be the only trigger of her old self in her life and she needs to learn how to overcome that.

my comment to the first story: I am a SAHM. My husband and I had a long hard talk about it when my oldest was starting school ( age 4) and had ASD. I personally did not have a career, just a job so leaving my job after working there 10 years to be available for my kids, I was fine with it. I now have two boys. one who had ASD and one who had ASD/ADHD. It works out best for us, that I can be available to go get them from school or preschool and they are having a rough day, sick, picking them up for appointments and so on. Yes I don't make money right now, but I do contribute in other ways to the house hold. I'm super lucky that my husband and I have constant conversations on the budget, bills and such and he doesn't money control the situation. He also is super supportive in my crazy dreams. I have been working on a business proposal to start my own food company and run my own food truck, and I will be ready to make the big move in 5 years when both boys are more stable and confident in school that I don't have to be on call 24/7 Sorry I rambled on there. I usually listen via podcast but I just had to come here and comment about the tattooed dead name thing cause!!! as a queer person we need to stop being so hateful toward the people that care about us just because they’re not adapting to our queerness in the exact way we want!! No one is perfect, people make mistakes and while their mom could get it covered or lasered why are we flipping the script and policing HER body when they aren’t doing that to their child. That name is no longer their child’s, it’s dead, and I think forcing your mom who has already shown her support to undergo a long procedure to get it removed is very ridiculous. I understand where the kid is coming from but having patience goes a long long way. Also comparing it to getting a boyfriends name tattooed is not the same at all, personally I think if you’re going to get any name on you your child’s is the safest bet and plenty of people have done that for decades.

Morgan, I wasn't screaming about your cthulhu pronunciation, but SOLELY because I was honestly struggling so hard to figure out what you were actually saying so I could google it myself and see what it looked like 😂 I eventually heard "octopus face, but a body with arms and wings" and "it's very pirates of the caribbean" and it finally clicked hahahaha

Please 6 story makes me so angry, this woman got a tattoos specifically of her children names, so logically they have significant meaning behind them. So I don't understand why she used that phrase "oh they just a tattoos" when they are in fact not. just. tattoos. So of course her child is upset, bc they know the meaning behind it.

Pausing before you get to the comments or any extra that might be posted 59:32… as a mom of 3 I would never expect my friends to pay MY babysitter because they got to hang out with me. So weird. The ONLY way it’s even possible to ask this girl for help towards the babysitter would be if it was OP’s request that they get a babysitter so it can just be a girls night out type of thing. So if it was her idea to not bring the kids- but if not then NOPE. Their child = their childcare.

I feel like the mom in the tattoo story could be a little more understanding. Like, the kid says it bothers her and the only response is “I don’t feel like it.” Why wouldn’t you try to figure out a compromise?

Story 6 As a trans person, I think it's fine that the mom doesn't want to cover/remove her tattoo right away But it's her unwillingness to talk about it and think of some sort of a potential compromise that makes me lean towards her being a bit of an asshole in this scenario The 15yo's feelings about her gender and/or name might change but her reaction is valid and she would like to feel that she's got the whole support from her mother So they should definitely talk it out more and come up with some solution to all this so it doesn't ruin their relationship

The issue with the trans child and the tattoo is complex, but I do feel it’s very telling that the mother said the daughter was being ridiculous. That says to me that she’s still not taking Anna’s transition as seriously as she needs to and not validating her feelings. Speaking from experience as mom to a trans child myself.

I hear that tattoo removals are incredibly painful, can't quite force someone to do that. Maybe the daughter can come up with a cover design? But if the mother won't even do that, that sucks
