My biological parents are alive (I think), never met my biological father and my mother should have never had me. My dad wasn’t related to me, but I grieve him and the memories we shared, he’s my dad even though he’s dead. When I think of my mom I grieve for a mother figure but it is not her, it’s the things I think a mother should be. So I get to be that mom for my kids and I married a man just like my dad that passed away. I get to break the cycle and that is all the justice I need.

The pajama husband later clarified that he tried to talk to his wife about this before, but her response was basically “you are the one that is with her in the morning so it is up to you to find a solution”. i found an update for story 3. OP said that the guy who told her about her BIL’s plan also contacted her ex-husband and told him everything as well. Her ex-husband came over and they talked. He said he had a gut feeling that she never cheated but the evidence was just so overwhelming. He apologized for not believing her but OP says she doesn’t think she can move on from this because the trust is gone. They’d been separated a year before the truth came out and he’s been dating other people and so has she. He said he wanted to go confront BIL but she begged him not to because she was waiting to tell her sister. She wanted her sister and the 3 kids to go to her parents house so they could be away from the BIL when she told her everything just in case he turned violent. Well the ex-husband didn’t listen and went to BIL’s house and tried to beat him up. OP’s sister is now mad at OP because her husband almost got beat. OP’s parents told the sister everything and at first she believed everything, but must’ve talked to BIL and changed her mind because now she doesn’t believe OP. Apparently OP’s ex-husband posted about the BIL’s lies and schemes all over social media and so now OP’s sister is mad at OP for “ruining” her husbands reputation. The BIL is telling OP’s sister that he wants to unalive himself because his life has been “ruined” by OP. The OP went to police and was told she doesn’t have a case. The ex-husband is moving back into town to be close to OP in case BIL wants to start something again. BIL filed a no-contact order against OP and her ex-husband. It’s a very unfortunate ending imo.

It’s okay to be selfish sometimes, especially when you have a kid with the person. However the extent she is taking it is too far. Ransoming their kid against the grandparents is cruel. And if she has heard her husband’s history and strong desire for this job, that is just sad she wants to take that away.

I’m sorry, but this girl is being absolutely ridiculous. Throwing tantrums hitting and throwing things. What are you five? You should be happy and proud and supportive of your husband. He’s in the military and he’s a test pilot. Girly be so for real. He’s more than likely gonna get hurt or killed doing what he’s doing now; then what he’d be doing if he was an astronaut. Your husband has goals and this is what he loves doing and what he wants to do with his life. You should be happy for him. Because at his age, that is a huge steppingstone.

Update on the Psycho BIL Story: The friend who told OP also told the Ex at the same time, and he drove to OP's town to talk things over. OP told her parents and her parents told the Sister, who was shocked but started to believe them. They all planned on going to Sister's house the next day together to confront BIL. *Unfortunately,* that morning, Ex went to BIL & Sister's house by himself, confronted BIL, and a fight broke out. Then, Ex put BIL on blast on social media to let as many people know what happened. BIL apparently told Sister that the him and his friend lying that OP was cheating on Ex was a "joke," and this whole debacle is them unfairly trying to ruin his reputation and is making him s*icidal, and she *believes him!* OP said the she told the cops but says they won't do anything about it, and Ex is moving back to OP's town permanently to discourage BIL from getting violent. Everyone in the comments is telling OP to get a lawyer since the cops won't help her, but that's the last update from her in the last month.

Story 4 has 2 updates. The first covers OP going back to the parents to ask more questions. They give (and OP recites) some graphic descriptions of how he killed and dismembered various animals. The parents say it has to be in the 100s. The second update, OP confronts him in a restaurant and he confirms everything. He tells her that he started volunteering at the shelter in order to kill animals. He did kill a few, but then realized how pitful they are and grew fond of them. Most commenters have deemed it creative writing after the 2nd update.

On story 5 about the potential astronaut “She has thrown many tantrums over it, throwing things, hitting him and threatening to take my grandson away”. That is abuse. Just straight up abuse. She is physically abusing him and using their child as leverage. She wants to control his life, which is why the logic doesn’t hold. It’s not about loving him, it’s about control. She’s using physical violence, threats, fear and guilt to control his life. She sounds like a monster. She’s more than holding him back. She is abusing him. That man needs to get out and take his son with him. He needs help. Omg this was horrifying to hear.

This got ignored in Story 5, but in her anxiety or fear or whatever, she is screaming at him and HITTING him and threatening to take away their kids. That's not okay. She is not allowed to just be hitting him and threatening divorce like it is a weapon she can weild to make him choose what she wants. Her not wanting to go to therapy to discuss this is a big red flag for me. He should not have to give up his dreams to keep his kids. You always ask about the coconut story, but no one asks about that Slug story you got Drew with. That one was absolutely wild.

As the parent of a 6 year old, I'm perfectly content letting her wear whatever she wants to school. She'll go out in fancy dresses, in pajama pants and a sweater, in leggings and a romper with a skirt on top. I'm totally happy letting her express herself with her clothes, and I think that helps her feel better about getting dressed. Getting your kid involved in picking their own clothes out helps them feel autonomy in their life, which is largely governed by anyone BUT them. HOWEVER - I fully agree about NOT turning the car around once she's made the decision to keep her PJ's on. School drop off lines, tardiness, work schedules, etc., those things don't change because your mind changes. I don't care for consequences that are arbitrary and don't make sense outside of simply enacting control, but I'm definitely okay letting the natural consequences of life occur, and if we've left the house we've left the house.

My sister did this to my mom during kindergarten! It was winter in northern Alberta, she was REFUSING to wear pants under her dress. My mom fought with her all morning. So finally, my mom checked the temperature and said, "Fine. I'm done fighting you." It was cold, but not dangerously cold and not meant to be colder and if you know anything about some parts of northern Alberta, most schools don't take the littles outside under certain temperatures; So my mom took her to school. My sister predictably was cold but didn't dare complain. She actually apologized to my mom. Some lady, however, yelled at my mom. My mom shamelessly responded with, "Then you can dress her. She chose not to wear pants. She needs to learn. Guess what she'll never fight me on again!" My sister never fought my mom again.

That second story really reminded me a lot of my parents. What the dad did in that story is absolutely what my dad did with me when I was smaller. I wanted to do something despite what he'd say, he'd eventually just say, "Fine, go ahead," and then not go back on his choice even when I'd ask. Really made me think more about my actions and the consequences they had. My mom was always very hesitant to do stuff like that, and would always bring things in case I changed my mind. My parents used to argue about parenting styles since they both grew up in very different environments (my dad in a Hispanic household and my mom in a non-ethnic household). My dad still does say things like, "Yep, of course she'd say that." Never really saw it as him disrespecting my mom, especially since my mom does the same thing with him. They just have differing views and realize it and just try to handle it like adults while doing the best they can to raise my neurodivergent-self (lol). Back to the story, communication definitely could've been done better. However, I don't necessarily think that the dad was in the wrong. Taught his kid an important life lesson that'll help build them to be a better person.

Wow, as an adult son who's currently trying to help my mom get through a divorce from my abusive father, when Shayne said that some people don't have parents and their parents are alive, it hit really hard, bc my plan is that once she's not responsible for him anymore, I'm going no contact with him too, and then he'll be out of my life. Found Story 3 on Reddit and there’s a little, kind of sad, update: she talked to her husband, he believes her now, and he got pissed off at the brother-in-law, went and tried to fight him before she had a chance to talk to her sister. Husband blasted psycho brother-in-law (BOL) on social media, sister got angry that the husband tried to fight him, parents confused and shocked. She talked to her parents about everything and they believe her and think she should’ve had the chance to talk to sister before husband blew up everything about it. Sister now won’t talk to her. This was the update as of 35 days ago. Edit, sorry there was another from OP more recent, 19 hours ago, I’ll just post the text: “I will make an update when anything new happens. My sister is still shilly-shallying and can’t decide if she is angry with her husband or believes me. I am mostly worried that he would hurt her since I don’t trust men like him. I have listened to my story told by a guy on KZbin and he called me passive and it made me sad. I guess nobody knows how scary abusive men are and how they’re most dangerous when they’re about to lose. Most violence against women is committed once the woman is taking steps to set herself free. And this man has my sister and her small children. I am not being passive. I am being cautious. F you Markee!” FYI she’s not talking about this video obviously and others are commenting that they show empathy here in this video fwiw.

Nothing she said in her last update is wrong at face value, but if you're worried about your, your sister, and your children's lives, then not warning her, or the police, or her ex, is definitely the passive way to maneuver that very real issue, and it did cause issues when suddenly the husband is trying to fight the brother in law and sister doesn't know what's happening and who to be mad at, BIL knows that she knows, and there is no plan to remove the sister if she becomes dangerous. If the plan is anything but "be single forever to appease BIL", then her cautionary period hurt the situation. Nobody should be expected to be 'optimal' in a life threatening situation, AT ALL. I don't blame her for being cautious. But I don't like the message she's sending with hindsight. Frankly, she's lucky that Bil wants a restraining order- for now- and not revenge, because the day after that fight he could've done ANYTHING. Ex "slandering" him before sister could talk to her only helps BIL gaslight sister too. 'Don't make a move because it could be dangerous' isn't necessarily great advice, especially if she doesn't live with the dude and can easily work around him

1:43:10 Not to be *that* person, but when I took an intro to Sociology course in college, I learned about this study with results that have always stuck with me: When it comes to heteronormative couple dynamics, the following results were collected from data in a study regarding how much money each partner makes in relation to the delegation of household responsibilities: When the male partner makes more money than the female partner, more household responsibilities tend to fall on the female partner than the male partner. When the male and female partners make the same or comparable amount of money, the house hold responsibilities are more evenly split between both partners with the majority still falling on the female partner. When the *female* partner makes more money than the *male* partner, 0% of the household responsibilities are assumed by the male partner. Let that sink in. Loved the episode, and thanks for having Shayne on as a guest!

Story 2. As a parent with a ten yr old who may be on the spectrum, mornings are really hard for us. I’m a single parent who gets lots of help from my parents due to the nature of her birth and who her dad is. At the end of the day, it was my job to figure out why mornings were so hard no matter the help I have. Especially bc my dad wasn’t being super understanding. She now gets up early as all hell to watch her shows and she wears soft sweats that are different than pajamas but make clothing complaints less of an issue. Routine is key with any child. hi, im on the spectrum (33 year old male). have you looked into pathological demand avoidance (pda)? its what i have. posting here cos its worth considering. but i do have to say it sounds like if routine is important for your kid, they may not be PDA cos PDA is a resistance to structure and routine. always hard to tell though. but just sharing so you cna look into the possibility. if you need any advice or insight my door is open :) i was actually well behaved as a kid, my avoidance was more internal (i'd hold it in and pee my pants) and i was sick alot so avoided school cos of that. but as an adult, i can say i struggle with certain clothes (dont even wear shoes), and i need HOURS in the morning to unwind before i begin doing anything productive. ive always felt getting up, shoving down breakfast and rushing to go to school/work was unhealthy. so i think what you're doing is great

The phrasing of OPs post made me sad as well (saying the kid was always throwing a "fit", thinking it's more important to "teach her a lesson" when she's crying and begging to go home, etc) Even if the kid isn't ND it's important either way to get to the -root- of -why- the problems are problems instead of just focusing on "bad" behaviors/making them stop

Just an FYI because I see it come up a lot online, that story about the C-section charge for "skin to skin" is actually justified. Patients after a C-section are often shaky, faint, and drowzy, and the charge is just to pay for the extra nurse in the room to oversee everything, so that the new mom doesn't faint and drop their baby. I agree that hospital bills are ridiculous, and you should demand an itemized bill for everything, but this one isn't actually a very good example.

As long as it isn’t detrimental to there long term well being, it’s fine. Plus the other parent was not there to help make that decision so that is one made in the moment. It does not mean you love them any less, it means that you love them enough to explore consequences when they think they know better. Speaking from first hand experience .. which left me dead for 1min 23seconds. GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT . killing pets is a huge marker for serial killers. I didn't ignore the signs but I wasn't aware of particularly the cruelty to animals until I became the animal in his eyes. We didn't have pets but one day an ex of his and I ran into each other and she told me quickly and every directly that. He lied when he said she was at fault for their split. He killed her dog because she went out to dinner with her family and he wanted her to stay and he tried to drive them both into a river she had pics to prove it. Since I was already being abused I believed her but 2 days after that I found out heaven is real and spent the next 37 days in the hospital. Get out before you cant

Yeah the father's reaction was over exaggerated, harmful and probably hurtful to the kid. I understand kid can't be allowed to do as they please always, but it seems like a deeper rooted issue, that could be solved in a better way like trying some encouragement about clothes or a reward system. Idk going to school in pyjamas used to be my worst nightmare. That action of the father just seemed neglectful and like a half-assed parenting style. The parents should either tough it out as it's a normal kid thing and the child is still quite young, so it will pass with time and there are other things to let them know the boundary on that don't involve public humiliation and break of trust. If they don't want to do that tho then go to a therapy or smth there are places you can seek advice/help from that doesn't impact your kid negatively. OP chose to put in the least effort and pursue the worst option. Also going to sleep in clothes does not sound comfy at all, but maybe it's just an American thing? Pls sb tell me, I have never heard of that before.

I'm sad that other comments don't address this... for me the obvious thing to do would be to be to investigate why getting dressed makes the daughter so upset. Story 1: controversial opinion…I don’t think the bride would be an a-hole for asking him to style It in a slightly less dramatic way, if possible. Unlike the other bridesmaids stories used for comparison, she isn’t asking for any sort of actual, physical change. It’s no different than saying, “the bridesmaids all need to wear their hair in an updo.” If she asked him to cut his mustache, that’s different, but I see no issue with asking for more uniformity in the groomsmen’s style.

I never comment but this time I just have to. On story 2, the dad absolutely did the right thing in my view. If he had brought another outfit or had turned around, the daughter would have solidified that she's the boss of the parents, and she controls what they do. Instead, he taught her that actions and decisions have consequences. Don't want to change? Fine. But you don't get to dictate what the parent does when you change your mind too late. I bet she will never throw a fit about not changing clothes again. 7 is not too young to learn that lesson.

I personally agree with the parenting method, it's the natural consequence of not dressing up for school HOWEVER I do think that he should consult with his wife beforehand, it's one thing to know in advance and another to show up at school to pickup your kid and find out in front of other people.

And it's a random guy I didn't know and only met at my wedding that one of my friends brought. He's in a bright orange plaid shirt, with white guy dreads and giant beard, lots of piercings...he stands out. And it's just hilarious because I don't even know his name, he's just That Guy from my wedding pictures. What the bride in the first story should do is make sure the rest of the wedding party also have distinct features so no one stands out lol.

Story #3 has always bothered me when it comes to the photos. I keep wondering if the husband didn't somehow share them with the BIL, especially since it was said that they were close. It sort of reminds me of the post where the OP's boyfriend's friends "found" her profile on Tinder, and forced her to video call them with her hands up while they texted the profile, only to find it was fake. A while later, she caught her boyfriend sending her photos to his friends, questioned it, & he finally broke down & revealed he asked his friends to create the fake dating profile in order to see how she reacted to being accused of cheating.

For the story of the 7yo in pijamas, if you dont have a child of course is easy to say "i will turn around and take her home to change"... but when you have every day fights and tantrums about a simple thing every morning when the time is limited because you need to get out of the house in time and all, it does build overwhelmed in us parents, and it's gets harder every day, so taking her in pijamas and sticking to it is a crucial step for the girl to understand the boundaries and that she doesn't have the control, because if you turn around she will acknowledge that she can do whatever she wants, and the wife is not there every morning, so is easy for her to get mad but not understand where the dad is coming from, and that is frustrating too when you deal with constant tantrums on your own and your partner doesn't understand... In my case, my little girl (6yo) was giving us a hard time for breakfast, to the point that one day we said, ok, don't eat, i packed her more quantity of lunch but no snack, and afterwards she started eating her breakfast without a problem, of course I felt bad for taking her without food to school, and i cry when she said in our way to school that she was hungry, but i had to stick with my "threat", and it worked. My husband didn't understand why i was always frustrated with our little one, until i told him, fine, you take care of them for two weeks (waking them up and taking them to school) and then he changed his tune and understand me, and after that we have been a united front.
@Emjay.d
@Emjay.d 6 ай бұрын
Exactly. Turning around or having something for her to change into will make the problem much worse. She is old enough to learn that her actions have consequences. I actually really like that approach. She didn’t go naked, just in her pajamas so in the grand scheme of life it is no big deal. Just saying fine if that is what you want to wear, do that. She will then decide if she likes what that brings. There is a creator I like a lot, mamacusaes, and she says if it is weather appropriate, who cares. Some battles are not worth the fight and the child can learn on her own if that is something that she wants to change or not. I also very seriously doubt she will be picked on. Most kids do not care or notice what other kids are wearing and honestly might think it is cool that she was allowed to wear pajamas like some kids are allowed to wear princess dresses or even pick out their own clothes instead of their parents doing it for them.

@Emjay.d
@Emjay.d 6 ай бұрын
@@Dij7897 that is exactly what I said. If I know anything about 7 year olds, it is that they would think she is lucky that her parents let her wear her pjs instead of making her wear a dress or jeans or whatever. Have you ever heard of Polar Express day?? It is the best day of the year and you wear your pjs. If it was seasonally appropriate and she was clothed it is really no big deal. It will teach her a lesson for sure, but it is not something that she is going to need to talk to her therapist about. The kids at school are not going to bully her, that is absurd.

Story 8: My dad was like this. He always used "MY house" to refer to our family home, mostly to my sister & me. He'd often remind us that nothing was ours, not even things we bought with our own money, bc we were basically his property. In his view, we were like squatters that he had to tolerate. We weren't even "bad" or rebellious kids! That's just how things work in his mind. Not to excuse his toxic behavior, but he had a horrifying childhood -- physical & psychological abuse, alcoholic father, neglectful mother, frequently moved around the country, very little money. Although he occasionally crossed the line with his "discipline," I wouldn't say he was ever abusive, at least not to the level of his parents. He has softened a lot over the years, though. Sometimes at "his" house, my son will do something like accidentally shut a door too hard, & I instinctively tense up, expecting Dad to blow up. But he doesn't. He does still have some toxic tendencies, but he's a very different man now from the man who raised me
