I am over 320 days alcohol-free, it has been a crazy trip for sure! Sometimes it is super easy and sometimes I am really wishing I was drinking beer with the other guys. But I know my life is a lot better without booze.I know how bad alcohol is for my health, and I definitely do not miss the anxiety and hangovers and gult that came along with boozing.

100 days sober! Summer is kinda hard but winter will have its own reasons to drink: more time inside, less light, cold, etc. Like you explain very well, there always will be some excuse. Yesterday I went to an open bar with friends. They drank beer and I watched the ocean. Saw some pretty good waves and went surfing. If I would have a beer in the past, I would have missed out a pretty good surf. I was proud and happy about myself. I guess that's the feeling that must be brought back each moment when the thought of drinking pops up. Thank you, Jae!

Just got 30 days under my belt. I'm on a permanent bicycle tour. Now, mind you,I would drink bourbon from sun up till sundown. It took my dog and best friend of close to 17 years dying to get me sober. Or at least get started. I'm over the physical withdrawal and my head is starting to fall in line. I'm sad most of the time and struggle. But I'm not drinking and that's all that matters.

Triggers are fickle. Personally have a loving girlfriend whom I’m striving to finish my education to move in with up north, a grandmother who just died back in March that raised me the past 24 years, and a family of addiction issues. My mom/housemate here that fought with her daily at age 80 is still driving me insane, despite the housemate being 14 years sober from Meth. Life is crazy, it’s definitely easy for me to excuse drinking as I feel stress and family member-irresponsibility…. Make it to an environment, that supports your sobriety with your desired needs. Make it a mission to escape places that have hell bound your sobriety for as long as you can remember.

Just coming up for 6 months. Jai you started me off and gave me the confidence to get through the early part and suggested I do AA or something else for support as well. I’ve done both and I definitely needed the guide rails. The big thing for me though is the honesty bit - you’ve got to be honest with yourself and with others around you and for me that meant saying I’ve quit booze for good and I need your help to stay sober please help me by respecting it. And everyone has that I care about and that’s all that matters. I still miss doing stuff and joining in the way I used to but you have to accept it and remember to play forward how things would end up if I picked up. For me I’d be mentally in the bin and in agony and I’m not going back to that horrible place!

Today is day 11. I've been drinking since I was 10, in October. I'll be 40. The last decade, plus I was a heavy daily drinker. It's basically all I did. I got panicky if I was even close to being out of alcohol. Hit my "rock bottom" the night of the 28th and day of the 29th. Stopped cold turkey. The first 2, 3 days were really really bad. Shakes, sweats, puking, insomnia, panic attacks and all in between. It was harder than bootcamp! Lol. My energy, mood, mental health, diet, and sleep have all dramatically improved already. For my fellows veterans that are struggling. You've got this fam. For those of us using alcohol to help fight the monster inside. Maybe it's the drink, that IS the monster inside. To everyone else attempting this journey that's reading this. Head up, one foot in front of the other, and believe in yourself! You are loved and worth it. Today is the tomorrow that you feared yesterday.

i tried to quit drinking and went to rehab last spring. it was mid summer when i got out (and started drinking again). i was going to a MAT clinic and told my doctor i started drinking again and that it was gonna be too hard to quit when i had a vacation and concerts coming up. i was shocked when he asked me what day in september i'd be ready to quit. i told him spetember 8th and he said "ok well why don't you keep coming in each week and we can work on a plan for the fall" september 7th of last year was the last day i drank. i'm definitely not saying you should wait til the end of summer to start lol but having that support and trust from someone who was waiting til i was ready to start made an enormous difference. even if you haven't had your last sip, that doesn't mean you haven't started your sobriety journey.

In 10th week without alcohol. Started journey bc when I got covid, I disliked the smell and taste of wine. What a blessing in disguise. So, I have continued abstinence. My taste has returned, so it is sometimes challenging. Strangely, not when I am out in a bar or socialising where alcohol is (everywhere! ). Mainly it is hard whenI am alone and feel a bit of overwhelm due to even a small life hiccup. Oh, and after 5 hrs of socialising and people are really sloppy, I find it difficult to stay around, and get slightly irritated listening to sloppy conversations. Anyone relate? Any tips?

When I go to a pool. I buy a gallon of tea from HTeaO in a flavor I know I will enjoy. I pack it in my cooler bag with an ice brick. I just refill my tumbler with it. For hanging out on patios I will usually get an NA beer to kill the urge and then switch to water...because NA beers are expensive.

Currently on day 83, the longest streak in a long time. I’ve negotiated a couple of birthdays, barbecues and just general “a drink would be nice” thoughts so far. Big family holiday in Spain coming up and my family like to drink!! I feel as though I’m in a stronger position now though, having nearly three months under my belt. Plenty of AF beers available in Spain, which will help, and I’ll also use my “fast forward” method of imagining the morning after. Sometimes doing this I can almost feel the hangover, and it’s pretty effective. Thanks, Jae, for all the support on here.

Quit smoking/drinking/party drugs at the same time, now at 53 days! Had to quit them all as each really enables the other and are all detrimental to physical/mental health. Feeling really positive and have really leaned into health and creative tasks. The difference in how I feel is the main motivation to continue, it’s a purer and more balanced high than any substance could offer. Just make sure whatever it is you replace your vices and the habits around them with that you’re making your new habits sustainable. That’s what’s really helped me, I’ve tried to quit before but burned myself out quickly, so just be patient and ease into the process, new habits are not formed in a day. Also educate yourself as much as possible, knowing how you’re being impacted is a massively powerful deterrent.

13 months next week - I have been at many events that involved drinking and partying over the summer and honestly, the more I observe drunken shenanigans completely sober, the more I realize, I don't wanna do that... No dis to anyone who does, it just honestly seems like no fun for me anymore. I love the fact that I can go somewhere and at any time I'm ready to go, I just go. There's no worry of, should I drink more, or I can't drive myself home, etc. It's ultimate freedom. I am an incredibly introverted and shy person and while it can be vulnerable, I don't owe being "social" to anyone yknow? It's sucks we're conditioned just being our natural selves is considered awkward. I've learned I thrive more hanging with a small group or my family than a big party anyway. We don't owe anyone an explanation why we don't drink! PS, I did always love the taste of beer so sometimes an ice cold NA beer does hit the spot and scratches that itch

Made the decision to quit alcohol for good in summer of 2021. Looking at my calorie tracking app, I can tell each time I started and stopped since. It’s been about 12 times. I can honestly say all of the bad decisions and regrets I’ve had stemmed from alcohol. I am in about the same situation I was in two years ago and it’s painful to comprehend. Didn’t go backwards but just didn’t make progress despite some great opportunities. Basically like hitting a reset button every few months. Save yourself the trouble and skip all the back and forth with quitting and drinking once again. If you know you can be better without it, then just be done with it. Every time you drink again, you’re just going to remind yourself all over again why you wanted to stop every other time. I get it that some people like me have to try it on for size and work up to it, but you’re just going to get to the same place eventually and life is too short for that!

The cure for regretting buying the unlimited alcohol package on the cruise you booked six months ago is to call up your travel agent or the cruise booking agent and make a request to switch to the unlimited soda and water package. There really are switches that can be made because there is more than one beverage package for sale. Another YT creator who specializes in giving tips for a good ocean cruise says you pay less buying the drinks one at a time if you are going to consume less than six drink servings per day.

I went completely sober for the month of January and felt so much better in every way; but then I had two cousins die in February and also my sister’s cat who I loved dearly. I turned to booze to help me cope. Then my aunt died after that and she was very close to me. All of that grief set me back into drinking every single day and I now feel out of control again. Also, my best friend got started drinking again after he also quit with me in January. It’s a real struggle. I don’t know how else to cope. Any suggestions? I’d love to get sober and stay sober but it’s so very hard with all the trauma I continue to suffer. I suffered a lot of emotional trauma growing up that I’ve never really gotten over and alcohol just became a way of life for me. I don’t know how else to manage what I’m feeling.
