At the VA hospital a fellow veteran told me about your channel. I have tinnitus and slowly loosing my hearing. The specialist tell me hearing aids will not help much because of the type of damage to my hearing. My dog is hearing impaired, I didn't want to keep her but a veterinarian explained how easy it was to sign to her. She is now 10 and terminally ill. My heart is crushing for her. When your dog appears on the channel I notice her watching Ellen sign to her. Interesting to see her watching Ellen's sit sign. I just wanted to comment and thank you for your channel. I don't know what my hearing damage means for me in the future but I am brave enough to admit I am scared. I do tune people out in a crowded restaurant because I can't focus on what that individual is saying. I stopped asking people to repeat themselves when it is just idle chatter. The worst is the drive thru speakers. The sound literally hurts my ears and I just can't understand what they are saying. I never knew you could just go around to speak to the actual person. I did that yesterday and it felt much better, thankfully the employee wasn't rude as they were to Ryan. I am young so people often don't understand why a young person would have hearing issues. If you don't have hairs growing out of your ears just yet, you can't be hearing impaired... Watching the channel and loving your travel adventures.

I recently found your guys channel and I wanted to share a bit of my story with you guys if you end up reading this comment. My grandmother lost her hearing when she was 3 years old so my mother's side of the family is mostly filled with people who are fluent in ASL. I have grown up learning the basics like the ABC's, and just common phrases, and name signs that my grandma gave everyone. As I got older I started learning more and more about deaf and hard hearing culture. I began taking more initiative to learn more ASL. I found it difficult at first to remember all of the signs, it definitely was easier when I was with my grandma opposed to just practicing in my room. I found it helpful that my grandma was able to read lips and was patient with me and my sign language at first I was really slow with spelling words that I didn't know the signs too. Now I spell pretty fast and I have expanded my overall vocabulary in the language. Sometimes I still find myself having to spell words I don't know, or make gestures in order to better communicate. But overall my ASL has improved a lot over the past few years, I was even able to translate for my grandma a few months back when we were out doing something and she didn't have a translator and my grandpa was too busy to translate. It was a very good moment for me and I was proud of myself and she was proud of me too, as well as thankful for me knowing the language. I still find it harder for me to read someone elses signs, it takes me a bit longer to understand what someone is saying compared to how fast I can personally sign. But that just comes with learning the language, I know I'll get better over time!

Question for Ryan: Have you ever tried bone-conduction headphones, and if so, what do you think of them? I use them while swimming, and it’s surprising how effective they are under water. I know it’s different for everyone based on which particular hearing pathway is affected, so I was wondering if you had any personal experience with them. Cheers!

As someone who started watching you guys in the past year, not having had a lot of exposure to ASL, I can say I know a lot of signs now (albeit badly), and this channel being the only videos I turn on CC for, I’m so happy to see KZbin has a dedicated CC button on mobile instead of having to click into the dots menu. :) Should always be this easy for myself and anyone else who needs to turn on CC!

Thank you for including my assumption! I’m both shy and an introvert as well! I have actually been really shy about commenting on your videos lately because your channel is growing so much and I always think my comment will get lost in the sea of comments and you guys will never see it haha. But I’m still here and watching every video you upload! I love your guys channel 🤟 And HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY RYAN! Hope you had a lovely birthday! 🥳

I love what this channel provides the public. Many hearing people have a hard time seeing the beauty and benefit the two of you share. ASL can be useful in other situations and I am grateful and embrace the language and culture and I hope the rest of the world will be able to as well. I wish Ryan a joyful, safe, and a fun filled happy birthday and sending much love to the both of you from the state of Hawaii!! 🥳🤙🤟

Your lady doesnt seem to look at your hands when you sign. Like she can read your words by looking in your eyes. Thats amazing

Iʻve been watching for a while and i really enjoy your channel. Itʻs helped me to feel more comfortable with learning sign language. I have always wanted to learn. I took a class in college and got scared when i found out that we were going to be interacting with the deaf. I was very young and insecure and so i could not handle the thought of possibly being told i was doing things wrong. Social media has done more for learning now. Thank you for your channel.
