5:15 as a waiter, this is so frustrating because I can't do ANYTHING about it. If my cooks mess up, if my bartender messes up, if there's something wrong with the menu and the food doesn't come out the way you expect, it's ALWAYS the servers fault. So if someone doesn't tip, that comes out of MY paycheck - not the cooks, not the bartenders, ESPECIALLY not the managers or the owners - MINE. And yes it's a problem with the system! Tips need to be eliminated and we need to get an established wage. But tipping less will never change that. 90% of the time, the server is just the messenger of bad news, and they are the ones punished for any mistakes in the restaurant :/ If the server gives bad service though I DEFINITELY understand giving a bad tip or no tip! That's fair- if someone doesn't do their job correctly then that's on them!
@SignDuoChannel5 жыл бұрын
nLTwiGGy hi! Thanks for watching our video. I totally understand. It can be a difficult place to be in.
@SignDuoChannel5 жыл бұрын
neither nope, they get paid hourly and that is not deducted at all. Servers tend to look at tips as part of payable wage when it is not. Unfortunately how it works is that servers are paid lower wages hourly and expect to make it up in tips. The cooks work extremely hard and are not tipped and are paid the same regardless of if it is busy or not. It’s a dilemma here at least in Cali.
@jaydencparker49685 жыл бұрын
@@zen42208 No, what they're saying is that if (for example) the chef messes something up and this upsets a customer so they decide not to tip or to tip very poorly, this only affects the server in most cases (even if its the chef who messed up or something beyond the servers control). Servers and bartenders are often paid really crappy hourly wage, I'm talking like $6 an hour. Sometimes meals are deducted from that as well and of course taxes. So tips are where servers earn their income. The base hourly is a joke. I feel like most of the workers in the industry do want the way this system works to change, chefs and servers alike. The thing is that it has to come from the top down. The business owners need to initiate change and it's going to be tough. Restaurants are low margin businesses and getting restaurant/food service owners to pay more is very difficult if they don't legally have to.
@thinnmarmoody5 жыл бұрын
I am confused. Does this mean the restaurants don't pay servers enough or minimal wage?
@jaydencparker49685 жыл бұрын
@@thinnmarmoody It means that as a server, the bulk of the money made comes from tips in the US, which is why it's very frustrating when customers say they're trying to "change the system" by not tipping. The only ones it hurts is the servers (if they were very rude I can understand not tipping though). The base pay is very very low and minimum wage (in the US) doesn't apply to service positions like waitress/waiter and bartender. For whatever reason, things are set up that way. Waitresses/waiters pretty much entirely depend on tips for their income. So my friend who is a bartender, for example, is often thrown on bad shifts during the day time and recently she went home after 5 hours of working the bar and only made $40 that day because few people come in during the day -thus no tips really.

Hang in there! After being married 38 years, I still have to throw trash away for my husband. He leaves behind empty cups, napkins, crumpled receipts, things like that sometimes two feet away from the trash can! Just reach over and drop it in!!! But I have learned over the years that if something is important to me, but not to him, then it’s my responsibility to make my space the way I want it. I’ll almost always mention it, but nagging and whining about it (like early in our marriage) never works. And it just builds up as resentment in ME. I learned to let it go and simply manage my living space the way I want it to be.

i'm glad you all made a channel. New sub here and I just watched the one where you said people take your money ryan but give her the receipt. I worked retail for years but this would have never been allowed at my jobs. I remember several deaf people that wanted to buy something but didn't read lips. My go to was I would get paper and pen and ask them to write to me anything. I would write back and then we knew for sure what needed to happen. years later I am a house wife to a special needs child who for the first several years was SO delayed even though not deaf we were told she would always be mute. (not true with biomedical intervention and b12 shots we got speech!) I learned some sign language at my local deaf and blind schools. I took 3 sessions and learned enough to work with. I have SO much respect for this language now and I really think it should be taught in ALL the schools so we can all communicate more easily in public.

TBH I understand both of you guys’ argument lol. I feel like the cups vs hair argument are kind of the same, being a girl myself, hair just fall out all the time, when you brush it, when you tied it up, during shower, while you sleep, etc. I understand why people think that hair on the ground are gross, but if you think about it, if leaving hair on the ground is gross, leaving out used cups are as gross lol. Plus, same as the argument that Ryan made, “I will clean the cups EVENTUALLY”, I am pretty sure Ellen thinks the same for her hair. She will clean up all her hair EVENTUALLY, after gathering all the hair together and clean it up all at once instead of doing it everyday. And about the tipping argument, I can relate to Ryan. I have had multiple bad service experiences at restaurants, and I don’t understand/ I can’t find a reason to why I should tip the server. Because to my understanding, tips should be sort of a reward to the server who did an excellent job while serving to the customers. With that being said, bad service should not be rewarded. And I understand that here in California, servers live off of tips because they don’t pay well enough, but just like teaching your pet or children or anyone really, if you reinforce those bad behaviors, they will never learn the right way to do it because they knew that they are going to get the reward regardless. I do think that not receiving tips for bad service will give the sever a lesson and motivate them to do better the next time. I mean everyone out there work for someone, and we don’t do our jobs for tips (except for servers), and we DO GET DEDUCTION from our paycheck if we done something wrong. And that’s just my point of view from a non-server. *I recently found out about this channel, I love you guys’ videos! You guys’ videos also make me think and be more considerate of others around me :)*

You should always tip! In many restaurants the server has to tip out to the house/their employers a certain percentage. If they don't make enough to cover that they end up actually paying to serve you. Basically losing money. Everyone has bad days so even if the service is bad you should still tip albeit a small percentage.

I just discover this channel a couple of days ago now and I been scrolling through some of y’alls videos. Because I am in some curiosity to learn different languages because I am bilingual for Spanish and English and since I learned both of these languages at very young age I became very fluent and so currently I am not in the U.S. so I’m getting in touch with the local language being that it is where I am at is Arabic. I got in tune with it being here for a little over a month just simple conversations saying hello, where are you from, what is your name, and etc just simple question and answer in a different language and expanding in the language and I see y’alls it sparks my interest to even learn sign language as well. Each video I watch from y’all, I watch it three times in my method of learning the culture and the mechanics of the motions of hand signs I watch yalls video in closed caption first, then to understand what Ryan is saying being that he can’t verbally say the hand signs as he communicate with Ellen it helps me with closed caption then I turn it off and watch the video the second time and see his hand signs to see the motion of his hand signs. It’s pretty awesome!! Then the third time when I watch each video is like watching it to hopefully understand it pausing the video going back to certain hand motion for a sign of putting sentences together and certain words. I spend about 2-1/2 hours on a video a day being avidly learning to sign and all day I am completely exposed to Arabic so it really exercise me a lot in the language. I subscribed and I hope I would be able to sign to anyone that may come into my life that is deaf and/or mute to help or could surprise them that I could communicate with them. I know I would need a lot of help and practice to be expose to this in a hard setting to only do sign language is there anywhere online I can look for someone I can video chat and practice sign language with? Thank you

Very annoying because mosquitos can enter, aircon will go out and be wasted (not to mention the room will get hotter) and just so many problems when the doors are open (The biggest one is others can hear you and mosquitos or flies). I mean, it doesn't take that much muscle or strength to push or pull to close the door xD I absolutely love this video, ya'll are so cute!!

I don’t know if you two are still making videos, but I just recently have started watching and I love them! My comment on this one topic is pay the wait staff a living wage!!! Don’t expect them to rely on the kindness of others.

Bahahhahaaa!! Men and meat being cooked "properly" is a thing! And yes...hair falling out is a nightmare! I hope there is an engagement in future - you both are precious. And truthfully, knowing each other as well as you do is a wonderful foundation. Communication is crucial and...it equals much happiness.

Great video! ❤️ Suggestion for hair dilemma- keep a roll of paper towels in restroom and each time you go into the restroom, dampen one and quickly wipe the counters and then the floor. You’d be amazed how this keeps the hair and stuff under control. 😁

I'm on Ryan's side for the tipping thing. I do not tip if I don't get a good service. But, when I do receive an good/excellent service tend to tip around 25-35% depending on the service provided. Good service = good money. On another note, Ryan, you're gonna have to deal with the hair on the floor. I loose my hair like crazy and it always ends up on the floor. My bf have been complainning about it since we moved together 4 years ago but I can't spend my time vacuuming every 5 minutes 😂😂😂 keep up the good work!

I love that he KNEW a 'discussion' about the tipping was coming on and you guys fast forwarded through it 😂 Also it's hard to pick up hair that you don't even notice has fallen out of your head when you're walking around lol Also us women pray for the day that boys pick up after themselves lol. We all had that phase but I find that girls leave that in their teen years and boys almost never grow out of it. It feels so much better to clean up after yourself immediately rather than letting it sit around or pile up. Coffee is one of the worsts to leave around because the smell of it when it starts to go bad (with the milk/cream in it) is so rank 🤮

That’s how I am with the hair! I live with another girl, and we have a cat and a long haired German Shepard. All four of us have hair everywhere and even when we try to keep up with it, it’s hard! Like sweeping up hair with a broom is impossible! It kind of all just slides around and gets stuck together and sticks to the broom and is gross hahaha

Thank you for sharing your personal pet peeves! We alllllll have them! I really like that I can relate to you idiosyncracies, and appreciate your transparancy to just be real with your audience... I get it with the bathroom door, I don't like to look at it either, especially because it's right off our kitchen, and my husband leaves the lid up, not the seat, but I don't want to look at that when I'm cooking! And he has long hair which I find everywhere...and in the brush that I have to clean out before I use it, gross! Also, my husband leaves his huge shoes wherever he walks out of them...like they'll walk themselves into the closet when he steps out of them?! I, on the other hand, do everything right and he has NO complaints about me...LOL ;D Truth, I'm a terrible housekeeper, I keep it tidy, but hate the dusting, vacuuming, bathroom gross! Peace to you all out there! Stay safe, wear masks, be kind...rewind!

30 years together and my husband still complains about my hair and I still complain about things left out of place. We all have pet peeves and years down the road you will continue to have them. Living together takes a lot of understanding and patience, don't sweat the small stuff.

Oh my goodness the hair- My hair is everywhere and it drives my husband crazy too because I leave it on the car seats, the floor, clothes, the shower drains. I can't believe I still have hair on my head- and now we have two daughters who also shed so he is done for... lol! I did laugh at the bathroom door one- after child birth the modesty went out the window- children and toddlers do not care if their Mother is on the toilet, they will walk right in unless you lock them out, and after years of living together, our master bathroom in our bedroom is barely ever shut.. it can be like grand central sometimes :D

As a server I understand the system is flawed. However when people have the point of view that they shouldn’t have to tip because of this, it’s upsetting. Getting no tip after working really hard to please a table is one of the most discouraging feelings. It can honestly ruin your entire day. Imagine working really hard and not being paid for that work. It shouldn’t be the customers responsibility but sadly when a customer doesn’t tip I always take that as the customer is being hurtful towards me. However, I don’t think you should have to leave a good tip if someone is blatantly rude or not trying. I personally always tip because I wonder if that person is having a rough day but that’s just me.

Hahaha oh my goodness oui I leave hair eeeeverywhere! My partner is pretty tolerant now though, so long as I remember to clean the bathroom drain. And yes I can relate to working in the dynamic of one of you want things tidied up more often than the other and the compromised that goes into that!
