Another great video, Chris! Maybe I'm missing this, but I wonder if you can do a full video of why one would choose mono versus stereo, or even multi-output. I never know what to select when creating a new track or adding a plugin. Even further, once I know that, why would I want to play with the mono/stereo output from one plugin to another in the same chain on a particular track? Thanks!

Oh my gosh this video was such a massive help. I'm a newbie and using logic just for self-publishing voice-overs at this point (audio narrations of narrated essays) and I could not figure out why I couldn't get a straight-ahead mono compressor on the track until you pointed out that all the plug-ins need to mono. I had RX 10 declick running (from Elements) and didn't realize I had it set to stereo. Solved! Thank you so very, very much! Can't say it enough

Another subject worth discussing along these lines (maybe another video?) is bouncing mono tracks. I learned that with a recent project when I started sending stems to my producer for mixing. The solution I came up with was to hit the little circle button on the stereo out, which split the stereo out channel into two L/R channels, and then hit the "bnce" button directly on the left channel strip. Otherwise, when bouncing, Logic turned my mono tracks into "fake stereo" tracks. Not a big deal, but made the files twice as big as they needed to be and created an extra step for my producer on his end.

For many years I've been using Reason (I think it's a great DAW that's massively overlooked), and a standard Rack Extension I use is one called Selig Gain. It's on my master out, and allows me to quickly switch (with a custom assigned key press) my master output between stereo and mono. It's a real help through both the production and mixing down stages. Good to know I can have something similar in Logic as I start out learning this software.

Thanks for the great tutorial. I’ve heard that mixing in mono (and later switching to stereo) is good practice, but wasn’t too sure how to achieve this. Much clearer now.

Thank you Chris, extremely helpful... especially the tip of holding option to to see a mono option. I’ve often only had the choice of stereo or dual mono presented.

Thanks Chris for another very informative video as usual! However, I'm missing something. When I look at your bass mono track in the tracks area, I see TWO waveforms in the track indicating a stereo file. Can you explain this? Thanks

Chris I have a question about stereo and panning. I noticed that my keyboard stack (Logic Pro X Yamaha piano) sound remains in the center of my mix no matter how I change the stereo pan setting. Also, I don't see input or the double circle icon, when I select track inspector. I'm running Logic 10.7.4 with Big Sur 11.6. Got any ideas?

Would maybe be helpful if Logic had some kind of little indicator on the plugin, or maybe a different color, to show that it's mono, dual-mono, or stereo mode.

Hi Chris. As soon as I add a stock logic guitar plug in to the track it cha get to the stereo faders.even if I have one circle showing,or have chosen left or right only. I dont know what im doing wrong! I really don't want stereo guitar tracks. It's Logic 10.2.4

It would be nice if the stereo and mono effects were different colors. Is there a way this can be achieved? That way you could easily see what was out of sorts.

Hey Chris, your videos are always a delight. However, the issue I always have is trying to convert a stereo track to mono when exporting or bouncing. For example, I have a project with 8 stereo tracks, how do I convert all 8 individual stereo tracks to 8 individual mono tracks at the same time within the Logic project? Thanks!

That's because the recording on that track is in stereo; mono type plugins are not an option. Go to 5:40

..helps you to get the most you can, out of Logic Pro ... (I'm already missing the "ten"...) My question is: Why are vocal stems often in stereo, especially when recorded on a single microphone. Is this wrong? Shouldn't they be in mono?
@hermannb.754 жыл бұрын
I‘ve got the same question. And why become mono signals to stereo after you bounce them in place?
@bptone46674 жыл бұрын
@@hermannb.75 hi Hermann B. This has something to do with the Signalflow. The Output is on the Stereo-Track and when you Bounce in Place and you want to maintain mono you should uncheck „if there are Stereo-FX“ and the „Volume and Pan Automation“.

@@bptone4667 All plug-ins are in mono. Must be because the bus is in stereo. Didn’t think of that. Thank you for your help!😊
