What Enzo said was ignorant and stupid. And yes, some level of racism in it. Like questioning somebody’s nationality based on the skin colour. However- as stupid as the chant was- it did not make one race better or worse than another. It did not say “whites are better”. If anything- it implied that France’s success in football is thanks to immigrants particularly of African ancestry. It implied ‘between the lines’ that French football is African football. It accused France of importing players of colour. Which is stupid ignorant. But since races are not being compared as “better” or “worse” - This whole thing is a scapegoat Vinicius and Balotelli- They experienced uninhibited racism in Spain, in Italy. The player Eder who scored the winning goal in the Euro 2016 did not get any credit for his achievement. I personally witnessed Portuguese people saying before the final was played that Eder was not really Portuguese, they said straight out that Eder was African. And guess what?! Eder scored and Portugal were champions that year. I was not surprised one bit- In the pictures in the media, Eder was barely shown, only the white players appeared on the media pictures. Now THAT is pure racism. And nobody complained. In fact when Vinicius complains- people laugh at him.
