I think it would be awesome to start a boat valet service. If you're inexperienced at backing down a ramp, loading or unloading your boat. There could be a two-man service that backs your trailer down the ramp, parks your tow vehicle, while the boat operator picks up the boaters at the dock and switches places with the boating party and vice-versa when your done. Of course the best solution is practice, practice, and practice all while using common courtesy.

@@BrandonWatkins614 One ramp dock they rebuilt after hurricane Michael they set back even further from the side of the ramp then the old dock. It's a static dock and sits back 26-30 inches. These newbees think the boat has to be launched as close to the dock as possible and drop their tires off so the trailer is on the axles, 1 guys boat was wedged against the dock. I asked if he wanted a remedy that would work and told F'you, get off the dock. I walked to the end of the L shaped dock and sat fishing. After they'd scraped the boat all to hell and broke one axle from the trailer he came over and asked what my idea was. Told him to get a scissor jack from one of his buds cars, jack it up above the ramp edge, powerbrake it, release and it'd flop the jack over as it moved forward with tire landing on ramp. Bubba worried about breaking the jack! Asked if the jack cost more then more damage to boat. Worked perfectly, just like the 3 times before I'd suggested it to others. Last straw for me was a dike that spent 15-20 minutes trying to back and launch. I suggested she grab the bottom of the wheel and could then turn the direction she wanted to go just like going foward holding the top of the wheel. Told me no man needed to tell her what to do. Another 4-5 minutes they all loaded up and left, boat never got wet. So I launched.

Here is a tip for new boaters. If you can barely see your bunks or not at all, You have the trailer too far in the water to load your boat. They need to be about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way out of the water depending on the weight of your boat, size of trailer and steepness of the ramp, so that friction can help you center it on the trailer. Then when you pull out, gravity does the rest and sits your boat straight down on the trailer bunks. Learn this, and you've got 1/2 of the battle won for most normal sized boats on most ramps, which is better than not seeming to know a damn thing like most noob boaters and making this part of boating a pain in the ass and making you look stupid.
@BlackDogII Жыл бұрын
Should be mandatory for New boaters to dock,load,launch, set ropes, use anchors among other things. To get that done they should go to the Reservoir or Lake go during middle of week and Practice doing it. And somebody should be there to record them and point them to the right direction on how to do things. Then they can download their videos of proof they've done it before they get Permanent tags.

It's so easy on my boat. I have twin axles, and I know that when one fender is just submerged and other is just out of the water, my boat slides up on to the bunks perfectly. (Conversely, I know that submerging both fenders, will cause to the boat to float freely. I don't understand how people can put a boat in more than a few times and not figure out the sweet spot on where their trailer needs to be when putting the boat on and off.

Godfrey is correct, the most common mistake made when trailering a boat is trailer too far in water. But if you have to pull it on by hand, they sure didn’t have it far enough.
@TomwithaDream2 жыл бұрын
Regardless of how far in the water is just right vs too deep, can't they use the trailer windlass to ease it the bumpers? I understand it may damage the gelcoat if not deep enough (or enough water lubrication, etc) but it would pull it straight up the trailer instead of off-center by pulling it manually. (My only useful experience is jet ski loading so I don't know enough, just speculating.)
@timothyboone50032 жыл бұрын
You can use the trailer winch if you so choose to if the trailer is too shallow. If the trailer is too deep. It’s easy to over run the trailer, the boat is more likely to not sit straight on the bunks, and due to the angles involved when the boat comes out of the water the bow will not be pulled up tight against the front post. Typically it will be about 3 inches from touching post. This causes undue stress on the trailer when towing and cause a terrible ride/tow.
@theone49292 жыл бұрын
Power loading is the easiest for experienced boaters, whereas inexperienced boaters should load their boats with a bow and Stern line from the dock, and then Crank it up the last 4 to 5 ft. Again power loading is an advance skill not a beginner one

@@damonslazyk8724 If born past a certain date Florida now requires an online safety course before vessels can be registered. I'd review it even If you don't have to do so to get registered. I'd also pull up USCG rules and regs, learn the meaning of channel makers, buoys, emergency channels if offshore, etc. I'd also use tag words on yt/google to pull up vids on things like launching/loading, ramp procedures. If you've never backed a trailer A LOT in your life find a place to practice BEFORE you go to a ramp.. Use 2 liter bottles as cones and make it difficult. Trouble turning the right way, use your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel then it's like using it on the top going forward-turn the way you want to go. 2 most important things are 1-if vessel is running and not attached to trailer or dock then lanyard kill-switch has to be connected 2-never approach anything faster than you want to hit it. Enjoy Florida and it's waters!!!

Don't people know why there's a Winch on the trailer?

At least they didn't act totally crazy about the accident.

I agree. They stayed pretty calm. Tempers flare when it's hot out and a long day and you're just ready to get home.

It was a little painful to watch the black escalade at the end try to load the blue boat. I usually load my boat the same when when I'm alone, but my trailer has rollers so I can load it and still hold my beer.

Bass Trackers trailer is a little too deep. He got it but I prefer more trailer out

I think it's funny when people back the tow vehicle up to the bumper under water to load a boat. Less trailer in the water makes it easier. Experiment a few times on a ramp on a quiet day so you can launch or retrieve your boat in a minute or less. I only spend 5 minutes of my day at the ramp including waiting to launch. It's not very difficult to go boating if you have at least 2 working brain cells

Why are people in bathing suits so worried about getting in the water?
@jimmabry8852 жыл бұрын
the folks with the Cadallic and blue boat "clearly" have more money than "common sense"!!. But they did figure out how to back the trailer and finally got it deep enough to get the boat out. Did they back into the girl with the suv or did she drive into them? Keep up the good work

I didn't see it happen, but I think the girl with the red boat hit the other car.

The way that pale guy was moving around reminded me of Buster Keaton. I was waiting for him to do a goofy stunt.
