The top 2 candidates for foty so far are Joanna-Zhang and Emmett-Burgos, both of those fights were fairly hyped, expected to be at least fotn. I'd say there were pretty high expectations for Gastelum-Adesanya and Whittaker-Romero 2 and Gaethje-Johnson as well. Covington-Usman was a weird exception but that was runner-up for foty. Overall I'd say expectation for a fight has a lot to do with how it's received. For full cards/events on the other hand it's the opposite--the unhyped cards tend to be great.

Joanna v Zang. Gaethje v Ferguson. To a slightly lesser degree Emmett v Burgos. We all want every fight to be fight of the year. It’s unfair to the fighters to label a fight that BEFORE it happens. This is a statement fight for Poirier to let the division know he’s still here. This is Hookers opportunity to let the division know he’s a legit contender. It’s a must see fight. Let’s see if it’s a fight of the year contender AFTER it happens.

Rewatched the A.Silva and Mr Bad Guy here. Oh my. Chael Sonnen absolutely battered and generally brutalized Anderson Silva, if he had got to the end of round 5 , there is no way the judges could give any of the 4 rounds that came before the disastrous 5th round to Silva. Crazy fight. Chael...if you ever read this ...Man, did you deserve to win that fight and thus become Champion, My heart was genuinely bleeding for you, even if you were a horrible bastard (heel style!) in what you said at times. Do you wish you had tried to submit him in hindsight? (I believe 99% of ppl would have succumbed to the ground and pound), or if the fight WASN'T for the title, I believe the referee may have stopped it in your favour, unfortunately for you , the ref gave him more than ample opportunities to recover and rebound. I hope you did alright from it! Did it get you any kinda 'bonus' that night? Loads of respect. Dan (the muscliest legs in West London, England!)
