Yeah, keep in touch with that plumber. They clearly did good work, kept you involved and welcome, and gave you a good price on the work. That they put in that access port to let you easily snake the line out means they're taking good care of you as a client. They might have cut you a break on the scrap value of the line they pulled out of the dirt; it was probably cast iron. Plus lucky horseshoe! If they do this kind of work, consider having them back out to help with the standing water you have in your backyard.

As a handyman myself, I really like it when my customers ask questions. First of all, I think it is important that home owners understand their homes. this can keep them from being scammed as well as simply increasing their knowledge of the world. and second, whatever repair I am doing, I have done hundreds of times and it can get boring... having a homeowner there to explain things to, helps me realize the importance of that individual job and thereby helps to remove that boredom. I found temperatures in NS feel colder as well, its a lot more humid, gets in your bones lol. My parents live out there and -10 there is a lot worse than -10 out west! Also pro tip: because of the way NS garbage works, people have such a hard time throwing anything other than the weekly garbage out so there are a lot of places with barns FULL of old antiques and furniture they couldn't throw out, if you are looking for other very specific old things, ask around, you just gotta make the right friends/find the right people lol We ended up finding a lot of cool items from some random persons grandma XD

My family just bought a 100+ year old house and I totally understand the joy of finding exactly the piece that will fit in your house. I drove by a thrift shop a few weeks ago and saw a gorgeous hutch (maybe about twice as big as yours) in the front window and the price tag said $100. I was like, there's no way that price is right, I must have missed a zero, but no! $100! I don't know who in their right mind would ever sell and antique hutch like that for a price that low, but I certainly took advantage of it!

Omg! That sink! No kidding, I paused the video during your walk through of that guy’s house to explain to my wife how amazing those sinks were, only to see you purchased it! I once lived in a very old apartment building(100+ year old building) that was a bit run down, but had a similar sink with a deep basin and side catches very similar to this one. It was literally the best sink I’ve ever used, more function over form and I wish I still had a sink like that. That was a VERY good find, you are going to love it. That old apartment also had one of the deepest bathtubs I’ve ever seen, with an angled back for relaxing and feet raising it off the floor. They definitely don’t make them like they used to.

I actually looked at your house for many months on-line and loved it but I was to chicken to take on the challenge of restoring it. Also the river made be freak in case of flooding. You have managed to do a lot there so far. Your office is going to be amazing. If you have to rip up your yard do all the things so you only have to do it once! Having to pay all that money for proper piping is annoying but totally necessary because even though doing all those fun things to your home would be nice having a sink that drains properly is much better.
