CHANDLER, ARIZONA.- On April 14, 2020, the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board voted to revoke the certification of now-former Officer Jonathan Schueller, after Schueller was arrested for DUI drugs and then arrested once again for DUI drugs while administratively assigned to his home pending the outcome of the first arrest.
Jonathan Schueller's first day as a police officer with the Maricopa Police Department was May 16, 2016. On September 7, 2018, at about 2339 hours, Officer Schueller was driving his personal vehicle south on the 101 freeway and was attempting to merge onto the 202 eastbound freeway in the single HOV lane when he hit the concrete curved barrier wall with the passenger side of his vehicle. He merged onto the 202 freeway and took the first exit, onto Alma School Road. Schueller pulled into a parking lot, parked, and was contacted by Chandler Police Department. Chandler officers noticed that Schueller was sweating profusely and visibly shaking, and a DUI investigation was initiated.
Officer Schueller had no alcohol in his system but admitted to taking several prescription drugs. During an inventory search of his vehicle, two prescription bottles were found for anastrozole, a drug that was prescribed to Schueller. One of the bottles, however, contained seventy-four Xanax pills. The other contained sixteen 'Adderall' pills. There was no anastrozole in either bottle, and the Adderall pills would later be determined counterfeit - containing only methamphetamine. Officer Schueller's blood test results were positive for zolpidem (Ambien), alprazolam (Xanax), and oxycodone.
Schueller advised he had bought the Xanax pills online, without a prescription, and that he also did not have a prescription for the not-actually-Adderall. Schueller was arrested for DUI drugs and possession of a dangerous drug.
During the subsequent administrative investigation, Officer Schueller took responsibility for his actions. He did not remember some of the conversations he had with the Chandler Police Department, but he did not try to minimize or misrepresent anything that had happened.
Schueller was administratively assigned to his home pending the outcome of his criminal case, but prior to that case's conclusion, Schueller was arrested yet again on March 1, 2019 after he swerved into a residential yard, hitting a tree… and then leaving the scene of the accident. As with the first accident, a witness followed Schueller and called 911.
When Chandler police officers found Schueller and stopped his vehicle, another DUI investigation was conducted. Schueller consented to a breath alcohol test, which returned .096%. Officer Schueller also admitted to taking multiple prescription benzodiazepines and anti-depressants earlier in the day and to having drank "four or five" beers.
Schueller resigned his position with the Maricopa Police Department on March 2, 2019 and later pleaded guilty to one count of DUI drugs on each arrest. All other charges were dropped.
On December 18, 2019, Arizona POST voted to initiate proceedings against Schueller's peace officer certification. On December 21, 2019, a representative from Officer Schueller's attorney's office signed for Arizona POST’s Certified Letter of Complaint. Schueller's attorney reported to Arizona POST that he had not been able to contact Officer Schueller since then.

I've watched a lot of these DUI cop videos, this guy didn't complain, cry, or try to manipulate the officer info letting him go and driving him home because he an officer. I respect that, he was honest, took responsibility, and complied with his departments policies. I hope he gets some help, I have a feeling based on his behavior in the video that he's probably a good cop. Plus he did get officer of the year award..he's a wounded vet who developed a drug problem after multiple injuries fighting for our freedom.. he deserves help. As a tax payer I would rather pay for his recovery than a criminals recovery or a criminals incarceration.

Isn’t he a criminal in recovery now? Just because he was a police officer does not mean he’s not a criminal! He disregarded the public’s safety. He could’ve killed someone when he hit another car. And then left the scene of the crime. And using drugs caught with drugs. He’s an official criminal!

@@YolandaMReyes what this officer did is very different from the behavior or the repeated crimes of a career criminal. This guy made one bad decision, thank God nobody was hurt. @@thetruepatriot7733 one bad decision? He committed the same dangerous act at least twice. Not to mention the premeditated act of trying to disguise the pills as something else. Drug abuse should be treated as a medical emergency and not as a crime. If there was no stigma with going to get help then maybe he wouldn’t have gone this far.
@varnlestoff
@varnlestoff 2 жыл бұрын
He is a criminal though. Being a vet and cop doesn't give you impunity. Also, he lied about what substances he took before they confronted him in the station about it. That by itself is a criminal charge. I'm not saying he's a bad person. He's certainly a troubled person, who got caught committing crimes. He can be forgiven and even pitied for his troubles, but he should not be exempt from consequences.

As a fellow Disabled Combat Vet, I feel sorry for this guy. I’ve been in his shoes. After being bombed and losing my leg the Army threw so much shit at me I got addicted. When pills didn’t help anymore I went to harder stuff. I lost a Homeland Security position and by the grace of god I have been sober for 6 years. Edit, for those who obviously have t read or cannot comprehend what I’ve stated numerous times. He deserves his punishment for his actions and I hope he has been removed as an officer of the law. I just hope he received help as a fellow vet. I do care about all veterans and currently serving. He is not excused for his actions.

After watching way, way too many KZbin videos of sheriffs & commissioners & fellow officers & congressional members & politicos of all kinds trying to pull rank, lie, threaten, & cajole their way out of being arrested (or even ticketed!) for driving under the influence, this guy was almost a breath of fresh air for letting the lies go to accept the inevitable as soon as he knew he’d truly been utterly busted. There are physicians available to access and prescribe medications for these officers if need be. They don’t need to acquire drugs from others or the internet in order to cope. My son and daughter in law are both sheriff’s deputies and they aren’t purchasing illegal drugs in order to cope. My son lost his partner several years ago when a dirt bag shooter shot him in the back of the head just to “kill” a cop. He was on patrol with my son. My daughter in law talked a violent criminal down when he was holding 2 people hostage in a super market. So they all have issues which make coping difficult but they manage without illegal substances.

Happened to me when I was like 17 late at night, after this cop paced me (back and forth next to me) for 5 minutes, lit me up anyways. Asked me if I was “ok” - which was super strange because I wasn’t speeding etc. Only car going through town so I guess they got bored and figured they’d find something if a person was out that late. Anyways they asked me to step out and talked to me (didn’t look in the windows or anything either) - talked to me for a sec, again “making sure I was ok” and then told me to have a good night. Now days I would have probably asked for their badge numbers because it was ridiculous- but at that age you think you’re “lucky” to get out of it, even if you didn’t do anything wrong. I love cops and have many friends in LEO, but if you’re in a dead spot or a small town, that’s not my fault. Had zero PC to pull me over - much less ask me to get out of the car, refusing to get out would have probably been their PC. Still, this fits the “if you have nothing to hide, just do what they say and be on your way” concept - when the ACTUAL criminals f’ that up, it goes down hill for them lol.

I know this mans pain, and how hard it is to stop and just get help once and for all. Especially while balancing a great career and not wanting to ruin your future, you struggle with wanting to quit but not being able to. You just wish you could press pause on life, go through a full on detox and get better while everything waits for you, but you can’t. I couldn’t stand it anymore so I put in some vacation time and checked myself into a rehab. Best decision I ever made. I hope this guy gets better and knows his life isn’t over because of this. Honest guy? Did you watch the entire video. He initially denied taking any drugs. Then he admitted to taking hydrocodone (which the cops kept calling Oxy which is far, far worse. It's ridiculous that those cops don't seem to understand the difference). Then the arresting officers found pill bottles with Xanies, Adderall, Ambien, and a pill for "breast cancer" that's probably used to offset side effects from steroid use. He said he had a prescription for all of those meds, but when pushed finally admitted that he bought them online after reading a message board. And he still wasn't honest about taking Adderall. For some reason, he kept trying to say that he only took the Ambien which is just bizarre. Maybe it was because Ambien is a schedule 4 drug and Ambien is a schedule 2, a more serious offense.

The description below the video says after the DUI arrest in this video he was "administratively assigned to home" (sounds like administrative leave) pending the outcome of the case (which wasn't looking good) but before that even happened, he got _another_ DUI after hitting a tree in a yard and again fleeing the scene, this time with a BAL over the limit in addition to having drugs in his system. It says he "resigned" the next day after that, but I'm assuming he didn't have a choice really. After that it looks like they moved to get rid of his Peace Officer certification, at which point his lawyer said he was no longer able to contact him - so basically, he just disappeared at that point. I'm sure they removed it anyways, and that was just a formality to notify his lawyer in case he dared to contest the removal (which would definitely be a bold move, considering his rap sheet at that point).
