And they're Job isn't easy! The other day I watched one & they were looking at the front of the Vehicle! The Supervisor was rubbing the nick in the paint on the right side of the Ram Rack & the Trooper said "Yeah, I hardly scratched the paint on that one, but no fender damage & the Super looked over on the other side of the Grill Rack & said "Was this from this PIT, too?" And the Trooper said "Naw, that was from the PIT I did about 4hrs ago! This one on the right side is the one from THIS PIT I just did! I got a Double Header Today"!!

When my uncle owned his shop, the local police department came to him and asked if he'd be their mechanic. Great customer to have! If the car exceeded 160 kmph the car had to have a mandatory inspection front to rear top to bottom. Gotta see some stuff working on them. The K9 suv was probably one of the coolest. At the touch of a button someone could have a very nasty meat seeking fur missle homing in on ya! Door unlocks and pops open and out goes the K9!

@@skeetermcswagger0U812 Tho I'm not sure if they still do it, LSP (Louisiana State Police) used to put a 'lightning bolt' on the front fender of a trooper's unit for attaining 5 recovered stolen vehicles. He'd get another lightning bolt for each additional 5 stolen vehicle recoveries. Some troopers ended up with fenders with 7 or more 'lightning bolts' on their fenders. Example: 7 lightning bolts would indicate 35 to 39 stolen vehicles recovered.

Of course my knowledge couldn't possibly have anything to do with the Fact that our oldest son has just retired from 26yrs of Stellar Service in various L.E. Agencies, DEA, ICE, Border Patrol, in AZ. Admin Sheriff's Dept, in Alabama, National Guard M.P. Instructor, South Eastern Div (Inc States from TX Eastward to GA.) But then again YOU may have more experience than He & may have been able to penetrate the Windshields or Doors of Patrol Cars with Bullets, depending on how long YOU have been a Career Criminal!! BTW: The Equiping of Vehicles for L.E. to maximize the Safety of Officers is dependent upon the Amount of Money that is Budgeted for that particular Agency! Therefore, the smaller the City, the smaller the Budget, which could also be a reason for a lack of Extra Safety Features on Vehicles!

Talented racing drivers have good mechanical sense and treat their cars relatively gently. I suspect that Byrd causes less damage to police cars than other patrol officers who have less success with TVI and PIT tactics.

ASP’s Chargers are the same as every other police agency’s Chargers, assuming they optioned for the Hemi V8 as at least most state police agencies do. As far as the driving, plenty of other officers are equally capable of spinning out another vehicle, but department policy prohibits them from doing so.

With impunity, folks speed, tailgate, run red lights, and generally ignore traffic laws. Have never observed a traffic stop, have observed many warrant stops, and too many accidents.
