"Anemia can be defined as a reduced absolute number of circulating red blood cells. In practice a low hemoglobin concentration or a low hematocrit is most widely accepted definition for anaemia.
Red blood cells are the cells that carry oxygen around our body. Red blood cells also known as erythrocytes arise from myeloid progenitor cells in the bone marrow. Erythropoesis is the process of erythrocyte production. Myeloid progenitor cells become reticulocytes. This path is stimulated by hormones including erythropoietin. The reticulocyte enter blood stream 3 days later and matures to become a RBC in circulation. The mature RBC circulates for around 120 days, after which time it is removed from the circulation by the reticuloendothelial system.
When performing a FBC or CBC, looking at Hb is the first step in diagnosing anaemia. One way to categorise anaemia is be looking at the mean corpuscular volume. Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) is the average size of a persons RBCs Therefore one way to categorize anaemia is using the MCV. You can have microcytic, Normocytic and marcocytic anaemia. Another way to classify anaemia is by looking at the pathophysiology."

In my blood test they had MCV reference levels between 82 to 92 FL.Mine is 95.8 I don't have iron and B12 deficiency.On the contrary my B 12 is high!.(1001).My RBC is low,3.8.MCH is 32.6 and HCT 36.8.

Anemia happens when you do not have enough red blood cells. The cells travel with iron and hemoglobin, which is a protein that helps carry oxygen through the bloodstream to your organs all through the body. When someone develops anemia, they are said to be "anemic". Being anemic might mean that you feel more tired or cold than you usually do, or if your skin seems too pale. Several signs and symptoms occur in all types of anemia, such as fatigue, shortness of breath, and feeling cold. Others include dizziness or weakness, headache, sore tongue, and many more. Your healthcare provider can perform blood tests to tell if you have anemia. The main test is a complete blood count test, also called the CBC. The CBC can tell you how many red blood cells you have, how big they are, and what shape they are. Blood tests can also tell you if you are low in vitamins B12 and B9 and how much iron in your body has been stored. Some kinds of anemia, such as those that are inherited, cannot be prevented. However, you can prevent anemia caused by iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, and vitamin B9 deficiency by eating well. This includes eating a diet with enough foods that provide iron and these vitamins, along with Vitamin C food sources to help with the absorption. Make sure that you drink enough water.
