I would like reviews, especially if you know the owners, what the servicing is like. Typically of the air filter and access to it. Great video.

Just thought of my new "problem". I am excited about the 450MT, however, living in Negros Oriental where top highway speed is 80kph, is the V-Strom 250SX a better solution since it costs less and has 'enough' power? Another way to ask the question: the V-Stom 250SX is enough bike on islands with no Expressway where 400cc is minimum, so what does the 450MT do for you in everyday use that makes the higher price worth paying? (besides it is cool and I want it hahaha)

I sat on the 2 a week ago and decided for the RE...I felt the CFmoto unecessary big and too plastic, in my country its also 10%expensive than the RE, regarding the weight the RE comes with a center stand and tank guards (al least the tank guard most people will put after on the CF)...The Cf adjustable suspension, mirrors,footpegs, and wind protection were nice tho...I 100% agree with your opinion on the ethos of the company, the indians wanted to prove something, the chinese wanted to tick boxes...In the end the differences are little and the quality of the rider will be the biggest difference

You refer to yourself as "this amateur Philippino" - don't undersell yourself, I think you should take a pat on the back instead. This is good and sensible analysis that is lacking from many other channels. It's great that you also acknowledge and quote other generally respected reviewers - but also amateur themselves. Really enjoyed listening to this. Also knowledge of legends like Ted Simon who I met in the 1980s when I organised a talk he came to give at our bike club. It's great to be reminded that capacities of 450cc are amply enough to travel across continents and no one needs 1200cc to do it.

Fully agree with this. As with another one of his videos that I watched yesterday, his reviews are by far the most thorough and grounded of any reviewer I've come across to date - it's insane that he's only at 24,000 subscribers. I mean it wholeheartedly when I say that his opinion counts for more than any other that I've come across on KZbin so far when it comes to me actually deciding which bike to put money down on.

I watched your Ladakh series. Flew to Leh and rented a Himmy for 10 days. I crashed on tarmac, submerged into a river, stuck in sand dune, and the Himmy just kept chugging on. I was skeptical of RE 411, but I came away impressed. I ride a Suzuki DR650, dry weight 147kgs and gives me 27 kmpl.

I've seen them both(havent ridden either yet) as I am considering buying one as my second bike. They are both heavier than it should, RE is narrow and manageable while CF is thick(nothing like the perfect Tenere, more like Norden). RE has a very good build quality, while CF's plastics are absolutely terrible(even the mechanism to adjust the windscreen feels like it's gonna fall apart after a couple of uses). Also fuel consumption of CF is unacceptable(might cost half a Tenere but burns as much). If RE doesnt feel underpowered(and finally has a good throttle response) will be a clear winner.

Piston mean speed in m/s is a measure allowing to roughly evaluate the stresses on the piston with the rings in the cylinder. In general the consensus is to stay largely under 20 m/s at max RPM and to stay around under 13-14 m/s at cruising speed if you want a lasting engine. It's verified every day on aviation and marine gas engines. The other rule of thumb is on gas engines the cruising speed is 75 to 80 % of the max RPM. For example if your bike has a top speed of 150 kmh, the good speed on highway is between 112 and 120 kmh with a piston speed around 12-13 m/s. After this preliminary I do think that the RE 450 has a very bothering technical feature. With a very long old fashion stroke of 81.5 mm but with a rather fast 8000 RPM for the max power of 40 hp, the piston speed is 21.3 m/s, a very annoying high value.That's more than a super sport Honda CBR600RR at 14250 RPM (20.19 m/s). More than a cross KTM 450. The Suzuki DR 650 SE has a 82 mm stroke with around 41 hp at 6400 RPM piston speed 17.5 m/s. The Zongchen NC 450 with a stroke of 64 mm is giving around 40 hp at 7100 RPM on the Fantic 500 with a piston speed of 15.14 m/s. Also that means, if the top speed is 150 kmh at 8000 RPM, that at 6000 RPM on the highway, around 115-120 kmh, the speed piston is an unhealthy 16.3 m/s. Like if you were almost top RPM all the time with a Suzuki DR 650 on the highway, and everybody knows that was not good at all for the DR engine. Morality the RE engine is absolutely not made for going a long time on the highway. The 450 MT has a stroke of 55.2 mm, so at 8500 RPM the piston speed is 15.64 m/s. At 6500 it's less than 12 m/s, a gage of longevity. With the very full curve of torque and power it's easy to adjust the sprockets ratio to get 120 kmh at 6500 RPM. It's also the RPM of the max torque and the better specific gas consumption. Morality with the good gear ration you can make hundreds of kilometers et 120 kmh. So I do not feel very confident about the durability of the RE engine for a ADV use with a mix of highway, road and offroad.

A point that has been completely overlooked in the reviews of both bikes is the ease of servicing. This is a critical factor when touring globally or riding on Australia's back roads. I watched a video recently on the steps involved in replacing the spark plugs on an MT450. To my shock and horror, one must completely disassemble the front end, including tank removal, to get to them. This is not a simple task on the MT450 which will make servicing expensive and problematic for rides that go beyond the city limits.

I don't think the Himalayan 450 is meant to compete directly with the 450MT, i believe it's an alternative to the 650 cc thumpers, the DR650 and the KLR 650, i believe that's their actual market, people who still want to use single cylinder bikes for long distance travel, I don't believe RE will entice someone with a Versys x300, a V-Strom 250 or even a BMW G310 to "upgrade" to a Himalayan, or to entice a user of those big liter+ adventure bikes to downgrade to a smaller single cyl, maybe just a few that want to deal with less expensive repairs. The 450MT is the more acquirable Tenere 700 for those who love the Dakar style, it will steal away from the CB500x potential buyers, and it certainly got the attention of those like me, who own a Versys x300 and want to upgrade without dropping down in off road capabilities, and at the same time improving on the cruising characteristics of the bike. The Himalayan is a softer bike with a more forgiving power delivery, i can totally see it being easier to handle slowly on difficult terrain, but it doesn't mean that it is more capable than the 450 MT.

@@Ride_XP Thanks man, there was one thing you said in a previous video that struck me and gave me the confidence to believe in the 450 MT, and it's that you said that you felt like the bike made you a better rider off road, and that's what i am looking for, but I'm not willing to give up on cruising speed z comfort or on road behavior, this bike checks all my boxes, despite of using more fuel, that one hurts, I don't really want to buy a Honda NX500, but i ride 90% on road nowadays, I'm not sure if I'd feel safer off road with a NX500 compared to a Versys x300, i just don't see that being the case, i see the Honda 500 as a road bike that has rim sizes that can fit some decent off road tires.

The 450MT is not lighter, they are about the exact same weight, wet. The 450MT is about 195kg wet while the Himalayan 450 is about 198 kg wet weight. This is not perceivable. Between those two motos weight distribution is the only factor making a difference and since 450MT is taller, I'd expect to also feel heavier a bit. Also, the Himalayan 450 is also more fuel efficient taking up to 1l/100km less fuel which is very significant. Also, the Himalayan 450 has more down low torque which translates into a less stressed engine, a feeling of more power without twisting the throttle which is very enjoyable. Very good for cruising. IMO the Himalayan 450 is easily the winner.
@Ride_XP
@Ride_XP 4 ай бұрын
While I personally lean toward the Himalayan overall, the wet weight number doesn't tell the whole story. The difference in the feeling of weight is quite perceptible. The 450MT feels significantly lighter between the legs than the Himalayan 450 despite the small difference in total weight. A short rider will have a harder time standing up the Himalayan 450 compared to the 450MT when sat on it. In fact the Himalayan 411 feels lighter than the Himalayan 450 despite being exactly the same weight, something repeatedly emphasized by nathanthepostman on his channel. To be honest this is the #1 drawback on the Himalayan for my purposes, otherwise it's an easy enough choice for what I do.
@spring9603
@spring9603 4 ай бұрын
@@Ride_XP this is true, that's why I was thinking that weight distribution is the only factor making a difference between the two. Somehow I would've expected the Himalayan to feel lighter since it's less taller and the center of mass is lower (but maybe exactly because of this feels heavier, too much mass concentrated in a lower volume with lower height; too much mass down) but since I've never tried any of the two, I'm just speculating ... so I take your word for it.

Lol I had to laugh at "get a Honda" 😅 totoo naman haha. Glad to have met you last weekend! The suspension on my bike was tuned a bit hard by Dennis after he learned my background is mx and want to hit jumps so baka nga it was a bit harsh for you. Your analogy is spot on though. Hope to ride with you guys soon and thanks again for helping out this trail newbie! - ambi (pat)

RE have failed in the Uk on the launch of the 452. Dribbling through and still no clear date on Tubeless. Final straw for me was they don’t list the lower seat in their catalogue or on the on line configurator. Fully agree about the daft lean angle and difficulty getting the bike upright for shorter riders ( before any luggage added) Add to that the vibration. At Uk motorway speeds the mirrors are useless and the vibrations are excessive. Quite a few of us cancelled our deposits and are keeping the 411’s and looking at the CF moto as an upgrade … but that will no doubt come with issues so it’s keeping the 411 for me until something worthy comes along to replace it

That’s unfortunate! I do think RE have lost a lot of steam with how slowly the bike and its accessories have rolled out since launch compared to CFMOTO with the MT.

There is a big difference between a 41mm fork and a 43 mm fork - 41 is really quite narrow so there will be a lot of flex, i am not sure many understand this and i suppose if folk only ride gentle trails they won't notice it but it is a real life difference that will be felt by anyone with the slightest idea of what suspension should do. The MT really should have had larger diameter forks, we shall see how it plays out - the 41mm diameter on the MT is putting me off, the 452 has larger diameter thus arguably better performing sussers and much less flex especially when it gets rough but as it is none adjustable, it also puts me off.....
@Ride_XP
@Ride_XP 4 ай бұрын
To add to that, physically the difference in size between the pairs of forks is quite noticeable. If one were willing to spend the extra money to upgrade the Himalayan’s forks, then there’s a greater upside there.

The weight comparison at 2:47 is baised, you are comparing dry weight of MT to wet weight of RE. MT450 wet weight is nearly 200 kgs with no potential of reducing. The RE has a lot more potential to reduce weight to suit your needs. Accessing parts for servicing is not easy on the MT. Also, the RE can handle abuse on the trails better than MT.

Good comparison between the two engines. Well done! Should you be interested in either of these engines, it might also be a good idea to check with the dealer about parts supply, should anything on the engine break down.... Sometimes you may have to wait 6 weeks for parts, which is not something you want...

Once again, nice vid. Since I am looking for an adv, the MT450 is it. Man u do a nice job, cool that u reference otheres, but your observation, conclusions are spot on. As for the Himalayan, wish they would have used the 350 J engine (it is way better than the 411), lost 20 kgs in new frame, suspension.........That would have been the RF "heritage" cool bike. I am glad u like the new one, but for me it's not it. I will enjoy my GT650 and the Hunter 350, but for now, I am done with RE. Again, u put out great vids, thx.

Thanks for chiming in! You make a good point, that 350 is lighter and brimming with character. As for me, I’ve recently realized the 650 would make for an amazing engine off road-if only it weren’t so heavy.

@Palabyab Spot on again, the 350 is a beautiful engine. The 650 would be too heavy. Back to the 450s, can't have it all. I want adv bike, I do live in Indonesia, here even if I try hard, it's 80% roads on my rides. For here I have the Rally 300, fixed suspension, opened up engine some, perfect. It's 155 kg wet. The MT 450 will be for Europe. We have them here, but my Rally is all I need. I really like your vids, u bring sanity and real world requirements. Thx

Mad TV. Love those guys. Bigtime follower of them. But have to say, i dont think this was the 490 platform. Due tk the fact its way way under powered compared to the numbers they said it would have been. I believe the 500cc engine CFMoto is currently developing is what KTM was planning on using. At it was supposed to be a 500cc engine with 60hp. I would not be suprised to see CFMoto 500MT soon. For those that are not subject to the European A2 license restrictions. I also have 3 CFMoto Dealers within 30 minutes of my house. Which is not common here in the USA. Ill gladly be the one to put it to the test. Will buying one asap. Thought about ordering one online from another country.

I like RE because power and millage are same after putting bulky load on bike with topbox and 2 panniers after long run also shork absorption quality is better in RE in more rugged road but i like function of450Mt of change in mode while driving and traction control so it delivered power quick but RE is cheaper price then 450mt in many countries including my and easily coustmisable and upgradable like me and my friend upgrade RE by add cruise control, like ktm and bmw gear shifter it is added on RE, remove mirror then put rear live camera and display near display of RE to work as mirror, electric damper stabilizer, replaced battery with bigger capacity and put electric bike kit on front wheel so in condition were front tire stuck it used or for small distance travelled free cost and lastly we are planning to put small air conditioning or cooler machine so in hot summer we can ride by attached AC or cooler machine with rider suit by small tubes, heated handle only for winter and rainy season.

Royal Enfield have missed an opportunity here. The 452 weighs the same as an Aprilia Tuareg 660 but with HALF the power. This segment is all about lightness and ease of riding. A Fantic Caballero is 50, YES 50 kilos lighter for the same power output.

About that time you say, if you want the bike with the highest quality in reliability, get a Honda. Lol, yeah, I think I’ll keep my 300 Rally. It is tempting though. I think if the weight of these bikes were even closer in comparison to the 300, than I would be even more tempted...

Why is everyone comparing the cfmoto 450 dry weight of 175kg with the wet weight of the Himalaya coming in at 198kg. It's even stated on their website that the Himalayan comes in at 181kg dry? Not a big enough difference to make such bold claims that the CFmoto is much lighter.
