Nations Guard go to a weekend drill walk in meet the soldiers. Pretend you want to join. The unit I was in was bad news bears but I was already a veteran so had the option to quit. Be careful.

BCT is what you make out of it. I had fun during my time there. It's all about your mindset. Just don't make it personal when the DS is yelling and correcting you. They're not doing it to make it hard on you. It's their job to break you down and build you back up.

@@amysmith3247 they will still let your daughter ship out on her projected date. Her BCT training will get delayed if she does horrible on her diagnostic PT test while in processing waiting for BCT.

Just be positive and motivated. You’ll get used to things in 7-10 days. The best time to ship to Jackson is January when it is cool but not too cold. Winter time there is kinda like Florida minus 15 degrees most of the time. In a way life slows down for you, you don’t ever drive yourself, you march or ride buses everywhere you go. While you are plenty busy, you do a lot of waiting as a group and it gives you time to think and focus.

I did my basic at Fort Jackson and you are so telling the truth. If you don't know how to count, you will be doing them push ups until you know how to! I can promise you that. Not so much do you know how to count but are you paying attention enough to know what is going on around you! If you don't pay attention if you are in battle, people get hurt and worse that is why you they train you to pay attention even on something as simple as counting!

Ive seriously been considering joining, but I'm extremely worried bc of my weight. I have hypothyroidism so I feel like they wouldn't even let me. I'm 22.. and I've been feeling hella lost and I want to do something with my life. I'm looking for as much information on this as I can because it's a huge life change.

Hypothyroidism could be an issue. But if it's something you want to do give it a try! At least you can say you tried and not Miss out on the opportunity! I just got enlisted in my 30s. Good luck!

@@midnight_bluess if you were to start going through the process now, you could be able to enlist before you started school. Depending on how you do on the asvab, and passing your medical physical, you should be able to get the MOS of your choosing (if it’s available) in a fair amount of time. I was actually going to transfer from community college to a 4-year, but I decided to join the army before school started. The process for me only took a month and 1/2 bc they luckily found a spot for me with the MOS I chose since my MOS is “rare”. Depending on the availability of the job you want, the length of the process may vary.

I started my process at 16 because of my late birthday, and graduated high school at 17. I knew I wouldn’t be able to afford continued education and I couldn’t put that strain on my parents. I waited to get an mos I liked and I’m shipping out this August to Jackson. Good luck 🍀

I went to Ft.Jackson in '91. Don't taste the food just swallow it. Don't volunteer for anything. Don't make eye contact. Look in-between and up from the drill sergeants eyes. Don't fall asleep. Do make lots of friends and make lots of memories.

I had an injury that set me back a lot so I’m not as physically fit as I’d like to be so I’m soooo afraid of failure while I’m there but trying to get out of that mindset before I ship. I know a lot of my knowledge that I need before hand but it’s my physical fitness I’m worried about. My husband said they wont let us fail though so I’m trying to get out of that mindset.

I went with the mindset that what ever someone told me to do I would do it. They would put a rock into your left hand so you could remember your left.😀 when I went in I was the last of the WAC's. After that they went to co-ed.
