Wow, can't believe the director's cut removed the iconic "good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun". That alone makes the theatrical cut better.

but the Director's Cut ending was the original ending, and fits better imo, as it leaves it open for another film with a new cool setting. Was so good they actually combined the two endings for the ending of the show Ash vs Evil Dead.

Fun facts: Linda (in this one) is played by Bridgette Fonda. -Take a drink, every time you see Ted Rami. -The Extra Ashs were body doubles in Bruce Campbell masks. -A good amount of the effect scenes are shot in reverse. -The pit horror was almost not used because Sam thought it wasn't scary... Until the hidden actor inside moved, causing Sam to jump 3 feet._the magic words are from the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still" -many of the live action deadites were played by ballerinas. They were thin enough to pass for zombies and took direction very well.

Yep, "Good... Bad... I'm the guy with the gun" is one of the best lines in the trilogy. Another favorite is after he crawls out of the pit and its the ending line of his speech... "I swear, the next one of you primates even *touches* me..." The skeleton yelling "Let's get the hell outta here" still makes me laugh 30 years later! Finally, I just have to give props to Bruce Campbell for having one of the very best male screams in all of movie history. If you've ever seen the movie Congo... The real shame of Bruce Campbell, in my opinion, is that "The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr." was put into the death slot the one year it was on. It may be the most fun TV series I've ever seen, and Campbell was a really handsome lead. Relegated to goofy roles, people who haven't seen Brisco would be surprised just how good Campbell was as a leading man. Penned by Jeffrey Boam with help from Carlton Cuse, who did the screenplay for "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," it was a western/sci-fi/comedy all rolled into one. I'd bet Mr. knows of it because he knows pretty much all this stuff, but I'd bet Mrs. has never heard of it and probably views Campbell as, well, one of the roles he plays in these movies.

Back in the '90s, I had a VHS of AoD with special features after the credits. One of the features was the original ending. Another was a trailer with a Metallica remix. 0:27 Originally titled "Evil Dead 3: Medieval Dead." In Japan, it's called "Captain Supermarket." 9:32 Ackchyually, it's an IGA/Stoeger Coach Gun. Brazilian hardwood stock, standard blued finish, and double triggers. Remington hasn't made a side-by-side since the early 1900s (correct me if I'm wrong). But it IS a 12-gauge double-barrel. He got that much right. In Evil Dead 2, he used a Stevens 311. In TED, he used a generic single-shot 20-gauge that might have been a Harrington & Richardson. Bruce bought that one from a local K-Mart. The Stevens and the Stoeger are both hammerless boxlocks. 9:34 Top of the line? Not hardly. Stoegers are budget guns compared to, say, a Remington Peerless (which is an over/under). 11:20 Notice how dust flies off instead of chunks being blown off like in Evil Dead 2. Also notice how Ash appears to sometimes reload his double-barrel as fast as most folks can work a pump-action, whereas Evil Dead 2 showed him reloading. 11:22 That would have deafened his left ear IRL. 11:37 Bruce talks about how hard it is to make that look legit. 15:26 right foot... 15:28 ...left foot 16:25 Aren't you wondering why Bad Ash split off from the right side, yet Good Ash retains the bionic gauntlet hand? 23:42 Ash might have been going to college for engineering. Also, notice the Fangoria magazine. That's a homage since Fangoria did an article on Evil Dead 2 in 1987. 28:55 Why not punch with the bionic gauntlet?! 30:37 Technically the UK. Probably northern England. Btw, King Arthur was a real person, but he lived several hundred years before 1300 A.D./C.E., and "Arthur" was more of a title or nickname, plus is was pronounced differently in Ye Olde English. Plate armor hadn't been invented yet and he didn't have a castle, just a fort. He was pretty close to an everyday joe aside from his exceptional military prowess which saved his people from the Saxon invaders. 35:13 Even though most of what he says is wrong? XD Not only is it not a Remington, but Remington has never had a factory in Grand Rapids, Michigan. By all means, correct me if I'm wrong. 36:00 "Swallow this." Yeah, it's from ED2, not AoD, but ED2 is muh fave.

I made an edit of all 3 movies as one whole flick, I used the director's cut of army, kept the "good bad.. guy with the gun" line and then edited the ending so that he doesn't take too many drops but instead just forgets to say the words, so when he comes out of the cave I cut right before they show the apocalypse and ash realizes he forgot to say the words.. then the back at S mart scene is a mid credit tag

"Klaatu barada nikto" a great tongue in cheek reference to the classic 1951 Sci-Fi flick 'The day the Earth stood still (don't watch the remake, it's shite). Those three words were also used to create three species in the Star Wars universe too as another nod to the classic!

I do wish there was a make-your-own edition of Army of Darkness as most of the extended scenes flow better in the Director's Cut, but I like some of the alternate one-liners from the theatrical cut (such as the jet pilot quip).
@Trilaan

The TV Edit(on the Scream Factory Blu-ray set) is the closest for me. I've also fan-edited my own but the TV edit is the one commercially available that has all the extensions to the scenes that I like. It's the only one that has the full scene where Ash leaves the windmill and finds his horse, then turns around to see's his evil reflection in the mirror, runs at it and smashes it leading into the mini-Ash fight.

This movie is called Army of Darkness, because they couldn't get the rights for Evil Dead. So that's why it isn't called Evil Dead 3. P.S. Her name is Embeth Davidtz and she's also in Schindler's List.

One of the most ambitious movies ever made. It is a horror film, a slasher, a one-liner action film, an adventure film, a high fantasy film, a kinda epic film (in the same street as The Patriot or Braveheart but in a much lower scale), and finally a comedy (you can easily spot some The Three Stooges slapstics, Mel Brooks wits, and some Terry Gilliam silliness/weirdness)... And it f**king nails all of those genres flawlessly.

There's a Evil Dead remake that was pretty neat too. Infact I think its better than the original, as it's more serious, dark, gritty and brutal. Worth a watch for sure, especially with the new Evil Dead movie coming out this year.

@Smash Bran'Discootc Sam Raimi wanted the remake to be dark and brutal as he wanted to deter away from the original franchise for a bit and create something new and fresh. Then they went back to the original franchise and created Ash Vs Evil Dead, so that they could continue their legacy. Giving a new director is what they wanted and a load of other people loved the new direction. What makes a good remake is that they follow the same formula whilst adding new plot threads, so that they are distant just enough in order to not hurt the franchise. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell produced Evil Dead 2013, so they had most of the input and could tell Fede if they were unsatisfied with some of the things he put into the movie, inwhich they did. Having two styles of Evil Dead is better than just having one, so that they can please a plethora of people rather than limit themselves. Its not all about your needs and what you want. People have different opinions. Don't get me wrong the original franchise is decent and the TV series is even more decent, but you can't deny the fact that the remake made better sense plot wise and had better continuity, whilst being visually more pleasing.

Sam Raimi's original intended ending for Army of Darkness was conceived back when the movie was still under its original title, Evil Dead 3, and it was believed that there would be a fourth movie. The original theatrical version was added since it was doubtful that a sequel would ever be made. The original intended ending was restored for the Special Director's Cut DVD, but the original theatrical ending with Ash returning to the present-day and to his job at S-Mart is considered canon since it leads directly into the Ash vs. Evil Dead series on Showtime.
