Fun trivia: The large demonic head Ash battles in the climax of the film, which the crew nicknamed the "rotten apple head", was too large and cumbersome for the crew to carry back to California, so it was left in North Carolina and soon disappeared. Its whereabouts were unknown for a number of years until it was found in a Halloween haunted house attraction just outside the original shooting location of Wadesboro, North Carolina. Love the reaction and great movie!

Originally, in the first film, that necklace was supposed to be used as a magnifying glass to set the book on fire, but they cut that idea after getting the necklace and just used it to grab the book so Ash could throw it into the fire. So Mrs. Movies was correct in guessing it was a magnifying glass in the previous episode.

This is my favorite of the series. This is where Ash really shines and his physical comedy is amazing. I always thought if this movie was ever redone only Jim Carrey could fill the role but that time has passed but I did dig the remake and the way they kept it straight forward horror instead of horror comedy. They do make it truly scary and I appreciate that but this movie made me a junkie for horror comedy. And Raimi's camera work changed cinema. If you watch a movie like Raising Arizona you can straight forward see how much Raimi's style influenced the Coen brother's work.
@geeebuttersnap24333 жыл бұрын
Evil dead remake is one of the only remakes that I think is on par with the original. I like how it was a horror movie through and through, but we see hints of the original movies, like how David is being thrown around the basement, it’s very ash Williams like, and of course can’t forget Mia with the one hand chainsaw “feast on this mother £Ucker.” So great.

This is one of my favourite movies, it's so weird and cheesy and it absolutely intends to be, but it still has good horror elements to really drive home that all of this is driving Ash insane, I can absolutely understand it not being a movie for everyone though, it's a very acquired taste. You might like Army of Darkness more, it leans more into comedy and doesn't have as much horror, personally I like it less than 2, but I can see why some people would be the other way around

There is something about the way Sam Raimi shoots that nobody has been able to replicate. You can tell even with the Spider-Man films that you're watching a Sam Raimi film. If you get a chance I'd also watch Drag Me To Hell. It was kind of his horror comeback. After big budget superhero movies he wanted to get back to basics. It's not R rated like Evil Dead but he manages to bring the horror comedy that's closer to this than Army of Darkness.

ED2 came out in 1987, but they never outright say when it takes place. Annie was born in 1962, as pointed out by Henrietta, and she's gotta be at least in her early 20s. So we can rule out the production date or release date of TED as the basis for the timeline. Btw, one edge ED2 has over AoD is the fact that Ash's boomstick actually blasts chunks out of deadites instead of just throwing dust off of them. Visible battle damage and all that sort of thing. 3:02 Thereby proving that ED2 is NOT a remake or reboot (though Bruce, himself, describes it as a "requel"). 3:39 Ash has an interesting and unique character arc. He starts out as almost a Shaggy type character in TED (introverted, gentle-natured, maybe a bit more nurturing than Shaggy). Then in ED2, he develops sort of a Travis Bickle side. Then in AoD, he's become sort of a Han Solo or Jack Burton type. Kind of a different "no Foxtrots given" attitude compared to those two, but I couldn't think of any better comparisons. He's not really a Duke Nukem type either. 4:45 Studio politics. 8:26 Define "kids." Cheryl, the youngest of them, was 20 years old in TED. Right? 15:28 In the commentary, Bruce talks about how he can actually move his ears at will like that. 16:20 What's with the flipped image? Sam does that all the time, but in ED2, there are only a couple of them, the most infamous of which being the one cellar scene where it looks like the chainsaw is on the wrong side. That is, until you realize that it's also a mirrored chainsaw because the entire scene is flipped for no reason. Sam claims it's to improve continuity, and he's certainly not the only director to utilize that so-called "technique" (Darkman is chock full of them). But it doesn't improve continuity at all. In fact, it ruins it. On top of that, it insults the audience's intelligence. In the commentary ED2, Sam talks about that scene, and regarding flipped images, he also says that, "We always assume you won't notice, but you always do." So quit "banking on the assumption that the audience is dumb" (to quote Decker Shado who was referencing Warner Bros. regarding a detail that got cut from 'Cobra'). 16:55 Nicked her with a couple of pellets. 27:11 You can't really saw off shotgun barrels with a chainsaw. It would ruin the barrels AND the chain. Plus, when you do trim shotgun barrel(s) properly (which can be done legally if it's still a certain length or if you're a police armorer, etc.), typically done with a band saw or hacksaw, you also have to sand the muzzle(s) because there will always be one or more burs left on it. 27:18 That leather rig he's wearing is probably a horse bit harness with a scabbard. 35:52 The boomstick for sure. Even though it's only useful as long as he has ammo. We never see him collect and reload shell casings, but we can fill in that gap with our imaginations. He was going to college to be an engineer, right? That would explain the textbook he has in the trunk of the Delta 88. That would also explain how he was able to MacGyver himself a battle rig, basically turning himself into a weapon (even though the audience doesn't find out the origin of his skill set til the next movie). Note: Bruce uses a different shotgun in each movie. In TED, he uses a generic 20-gauge single-shot which might have been a Harrington & Richardson (abbreviated "H&R"). Fun fact: Bruce bought that at a local K-Mart, so it's a real gun and they used real ammo (which Sam admits in the commentary was irresponsible). In ED2, he uses a Stevens 311. And in AoD, he uses an IGA/Stoeger Coach Gun. At no point does he use a "12-gauge double-barrel Remington." I don't think Remington has made a side-by-side hammerless boxlock since the late 1800s, but don't quote me on that. [[researches]] Make that early 1900s. Also, both the Stevens and the Stoeger have double triggers, not a "hair trigger." No one actually uses hair triggers except maybe expert trickshooters, and only for the purpose of trickshooting, and only on special-purpose sporting handguns. Again, don't quote me on that.

I watched a video on KZbin of Bruce Campbell flipping himself. He was behind the scenes of this movie practicing. And he was doing the flips at signings.

Evil Dead 2 is simply the greatest movie ever made! At least that’s my opinion.

A great follow up to this would be Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator which is on the same level of crazy as this, and stars another horror icon; Jeffery Combs.
