I love the behind the scenes info on this movie. It really was just a group of college kids going into the woods to make a movie. They had to put a floor in the cabin, run power to it, it was freezing cold when shooting, they did their own stunts, own makeup, etc…. It was an all around nightmare to film but it’s a testament to what you can do with no money, and lots of determination.

Important note about watching second one. The beginning of it is more or less a reboot of the first movie. It's really only when Ash is sent flying through the woods that the sequel actually starts, because that is how the first movie ended. If you ignore everything that happens before that moment it lines up perfectly. You don't have to skip the opening or anything, just keep in mind they're doing a super abridged version of the first movie up until Ash is sent flying through the woods.

@@HonkeyKong54 eddiejravannen and gordons-alive gave you the answers. For the third movie, it doesn't start with Ash being praised like in the end of the second movie but with Ash being captured, plus the movie is more comedy than horror, distancing itself from the two other movies, IMHO. Good thing the TV show was a perfect mix between Evil Dead 1 and Evil Dead 2.

The constant look of bemusement as the search for rationalisation is tremendous, sometimes not a lot can prepare for the first time viewing of a low budget, made for nothing, made by teens, cast with friends, genre classic. Visual style really sells this movie. This movie is so primitive, it's not low budget it's no budget, that it shouldn't work. Yet it's a classic and I can still watch it again and enjoy it as much as the first time I saw it. The camera is used to maximum effect. Every shot feels like someone said "Okay, how can make this look more interesting?" when they were filming it.

I personally prefer this over Dead by Dawn even though that movie had a bigger budget

I did not see this movie coming. I saw Army of Darkness first. After seeing this and Darkman as a kid, I did not know how VICIOUS this movie would be. Still happy I got to see a showing of it about 20 years ago.

You never mention what you're drinking. I imagine green tea/whiskey. Plus Evil Dead 2 & the 2013 remake are the best

Both Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell were 20 and 21 when they made this and Sam has said he deeply regrets making the “Tree” scene as his goal was to shock not offend. The 2013 remake of this movie is VERY gory to the point that I’m not sure you’d want to watch it just a warning. However I like it and I like gore but even I had a tough time in a few scenes.

We first saw Evil Dead by renting it from the local mom & pop rental store where you could rent all sorts of wacky stuff. My parents and I ended up watching it with my aunt, uncle and my three cousins. I don't remember having nightmares but, my cousins ended up not being able to sleep right for a week!

" This movie is slow." That's the last time you're going to be able to say that for the night. 😅
