I bought the smaller box of speed paint. If you want amazing looking glass for your cockpits, paint them a nice silver and then apply the speed paint over it. I’ve also noticed the paint pulling away in spots but it’s not a deal breaker and the price is so much better than GW’s contrast line.

For where the paint goes a little rouge, it's easy to clean up with a wet qtip before it dries completely, there will be some staining but it makes touching that area up alot easier.

The Matte White warpaint can also be used to touch up the mistakes, as the primers are made to be the same color as the paints they're named after.

I've been using them for a Taurian Concordat army and they're great. Zenithal prime, slap em on, dry brush, metallics, varnish and done. I think they look better than Contrast too. Don't use water though they'll reactivate and come off!

@Innersphere_Surat2 жыл бұрын
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming they look great. I don't know how well you can see but I have my speed paint catapult as my display pic right now. The big trick is to really exaggerate the contrast with the zenithal but leaving a lot more of the black on the underside. Some people go a little heavy with the white and you lose a lot of the shadows.

@MahiMahi-oiasdf2 жыл бұрын
Don't water these down, that's what "reactivates" the paints and keeps pulling the pigment from the high spots. If you want to thin your speed paints down a little, use the included Speedpaint Medium.

Excellent!! I do wonder if it is primer related… Army Painter has their own primer of course haha
@TinBane2 жыл бұрын
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming yeah, different primers have different properties. Normally it’s pretty subtle, but for things like this, how hydrophobic the base is will effect how well the “layering” effects and pulling away. GW white is fairly “powdery”, so will be less hydrophobic.

I hated the few I bought. Try the orc skin as a base. Then try to paint Capellan Warrior House trim over the green. Anything other than black trim will reactivate the green and taint your color. ESPECIALLY ivory trim (House Ma-Tsu Kai) will bleed green into it. NO, varnish over the green before didn't help. NO, waiting a week didn't help either.

They seem to have the same problems that Citadel contrast paints do... Too much variation in coverage and quality between colors, and it tends to look "splotchy" (with maybe the added benefit of a longer drying time than Citadels offerings). I think these sorts of paints can be great for beginners or those more interested in the gaming portion of the hobby who just want to get some units that pop and have identifiable factions on the table. However, I still believe you just can't top the results that using more traditional paints and methods can yield. I still like to use contrast paints instead of washes in some camouflage schemes though, and I'm sure there are many other interesting uses for these paints! Would be interested to see some of your suggested experiments.
