We used to make crochet buttons when I was a kid! The base for the button is a small plastic ring. (I think craft stores still carry different sizes of rings in small packages.) Put a slip knot on your crochet hook, insert the hook into the center of the ring from the front to the back, catch the yarn and pull it through to the front, then make a single crochet stitch on the outside edge of the ring. Repeat until the ring is covered. Leave a long tail of yarn to sew the button onto the sweater. But you can probably find a KZbin video about it that will explain everything more clearly than I have! Thank you for this wonderful tour.

Oh, oh, I'm so inspired to get out the needles. I'll have to start on a simple pattern as I can only manage plain, perl and cable. My grandmother used to knit these sort of patterns. Love you guys. I'm going to learn a lot from your channel. Bless you both. Your lives are beautiful and filled with quiet joy.

I love looking at all of these beautiful sweaters! Something I would love to see you do a video about is finishing these sweaters correctly adding the ribbon doing the kitchner stich the way you like to do it, knitting the bands on the inside around the sleeves, etc. If you already have this video I am just not there yet but making progress. :)

I watched this while finishing up my latest project and was surprised to see the same pattern I was just busy knitting - which was the unfinished cardigan and you mentioned you didn't know the name. The pattern I used was Sunnfjord Men's Cardigan by Sandnes Design. So nice to see your beautiful collection, hopefully some of my items will be as treasured in the future.

It is enjoyable and very informative to see and hear your evaluations of the rich treasury of your archives. I am very partial to colourwork but found Arnie’s grandmother’s red sweater a true favorite. Not only is it knit in my favorite colour but it looks as if it was just knit. It is so good to hear you emphasize the enduring qualities of the yarn that will last for generations. Of course I understand the practical nature of cutting the sleeves of her jackets but my heart would be in my throat to take scissors to such beautiful knitting. Her workmanship has challenged me to improve my own to aspire to that level of skill and accomplishment. I could watch you discuss these pieces all day long. I’m glad to know there will be more like this one. Knit and be happy.

Arne, what a rich heritage you have! It's wonderful that you have all of these wonderful knitted items from your grandparents. I don't have anything but an afghan that my aunt had crocheted. I don't know how old it is or when she made it. My mom got it for me when my aunt passed away. I don't have anything else from my grandmother or my other aunts. It makes me so sad. Carlos, I look forward to seeing your beloved items from your mom. What a treasure you guys have! I'm a very sentimental person, so I really treasure these things. I like to give handmade gifts to people, and I hope they treasure them too. I know my mom treasures my counted cross stitch pieces. They are one of the few things that she brought to the nursing home with her almost 4 years ago now.

I am absolutely amazed at the workmanship of your beautiful knitwear. I am a knitter but I don’t think I could ever produce such beauty. We have great wool here in New Zealand where I live as we are a country of sheep, our merino wool is lovely and the possum wool that is being produced here is unbelievably soft and warm. I always knit with the best pure wool as I am not fond of the feel of acrylic yarn. You are both gorgeous men and thank you for your great videos.

From my experience dealing with American knitters, they tend to gravitate toward cheap yarn and can sometimes be defensive when another knitter is critical of cheap yarn. Also, it's good to see families with knitting traditions.

I like the black & grey striped one the best. As others have commented, when you talk about storing sweaters in the "outhouse" it makes me chuckle. I think the Norwegian word for what English speakers call an outhouse is "utedo".
@ARNECARLOS
@ARNECARLOS 6 жыл бұрын
David Hensley We know the difference between an outhouse and an outbuilding. The outhouse in question was in fact a toilet until it was repurposed into a little storage room, about 30 years ago. So we choose to call it by its original name. We also have a guest house that used to be used for washing clothes and bathing and which we still continue to call the bathhouse even though it is no longer used as a bathhouse, just a guest house 😊😊

Thank you for all your interesting podcasts. The ? crochet button reminds me of Dorset Buttons. A Dorset button is a style of craft-made button originating in the English county of Dorset. Thanks again for a wonderful video! Arne’s grandmother was obviously a very talented knitter. I was so impressed with the inside of her jacket. Perfect floats. You could practically wear it inside out. And I think it’s right that you not repair it. Leave it as a beautiful testimony to her. I also liked seeing your appreciation for the red cable sweater, as that is the type of garment I knit! I am still nervous when doing color work, and I don’t like seaming so I do a lot of raglan sleeves! Looking forward to seeing more of your vintage items in the future.

Those sweaters are all so timeless... Absolutely gorgeous. We have a problem with moths where we live. I also never know whether I should hang or lay the pieces down when I don't wear them. My mom always put them down flat, but is this really necessary? Same with the type of hanger to use (if you do use hangers) - I always feel I should be using special garment hangers instead of the cheap plastic ones, but I'm not really sure if this matters or not. Do you think you could do a program about the right way of storing or preserving knit pieces?
