I’ve been knitting since I was 5 and I’m now 62. I can’t knit even close to Arnie’s speed. I think that I could knit faster if I could keep a shorter tension on the yarn. But try as hard as I can I still can’t do it! 🤣

I throw an I find it soothing. Its not a competition its something created with love. Norwegians are like that on a show I saw everything was a competition (they actually sheered a sheep and carded, then spun it, then knitted it) it was so tense! To make it into the Guiness book of Records. I shut it off. Everybody needs something to relax with or become a raging drunk! Or perhaps a very angry person. You two are opposites in knitting styles only yet balance each other where needed. Some things are just good slowed down. lol, there's still plenty of time to Christmas. Sorry, but I'm happy with my throwing ways. If I rush there's errors and very, very little satisfaction for me personally. I'm taking my time. lol. I get nervous watching Arne sometimes. Love him to death for his mad skills though but I wouldn't even try around him. I'm a painter so maybe that's it.

I would love to see an entire book of Christmas stockings Arne, that hand made notebook looks like a sweet treasure of patterns, notes, ideas, and memories! This is my second video I’ve seen where you talk about dominant color; it is a thing in Norway too, I’ve seen it mentioned in a few patterns from Norwegian designers. I think the main idea is that IF you have a different tension between your 2 strands of yarn, make sure to hold the same color in the same hand throughout your project so the tension remains the same for the pattern color and the background color, otherwise your knitted fabric will be very uneven. I knit in the German/American way and my stitches that I knit with my left hand are looser (probably because I don’t have the same strength in that hand as I do in my right hand which is my dominant hand). I’ve tried tensioning the yarn differently to try to correct this difference but I’m not always successful so until I get there, it is helpful to be mindful that it can exist and how to deal with it.

Hi!! These are lovely! My grandma made them for years and I started making them after she passed and have so many questions I wish I could ask her! I always struggle with having holes in my work at the end from crossing over to change colors, especially over longer spaces, making the back of the work look very messy when I have to fix them later. I’m thinking it is a tension issue or else a crossing issue. This video has been very helpful. Do you avoid holes by twisting continually as you knit? I’m embarking on a very ambitious design and I want to try and fix these mistakes as I go. Thank you!!

Thank you so much for responding, but being a bit of a "thick" American I'm not quite getting it. I've watched the Norwegian knitting tutorial. It seems that one would need to tension yarn somehow or the stitches would be loose and sloppy. Is it because you work so closely at the tips? Just a bit of a more technical explanation would be most welcome. I tend to delve into things a bit more deeply than is healthy! brad
