Lots of Dustin Johnson in Arnie's swing. Check out the incredible angles created in the upper torso and shoulders and the depth of the midsection. This was one strong dude. He was so much fun to watch play: always teetering between brilliance and disaster. Nobody lashed it like Arnie.

I love the left heel raise I remember going up highschool 2002. Coach and dad made me stop doing it. No 20 years later I went back to letting it come up and. I have been having my best ball striking of my life. And driving forward to accomplish big goals in the game at a tournament level Thanks for the video

Arnie was good for the game, a very nice man, very compassionate and friendly, no wonder he had so many fans, very humble as well, and I think some parts of his swing (i.e. the steep shoulder turn) were very advanced

Hey Wayne. Thanks for all the videos. I used to be a player who kept my left foot down on the ground because various pros preached that action. After watching so many classic players lift it, I started to apply it to my own game. I found that it helped me always have somewhere to send my weight, thus nearly eliminating the reverse pivot I would sometimes do under pressure. In doing so, it also added 20 yards instantly and helped me shallow out my downswing plane. Thoughts?

I used to have lot of Arnold in my swing, shut face, steep shoulder turn. Problem was I didn't have Arnie's strength, and ability to clear my lower body fast enough. Not to mention I couldn't get much lag as I can't hinge it my left wrist past more the 70-80 degrees when it's bowed. If you're like Dustin or Arnie and can make it work though, more power to you.

@kyleroar every teaching pro knows that with a shut clubhead, you need fast hips or you have to not release the c lub as much, and that finish was Arnie's way of keeping the clubhead square at impact and not hitting a big hook with a shut clubface t impact

Arnie head goes down a bit on backswing but never goes any lower on the downswing and by impact his head is back to the height he was at address. Arnie top of swing his left arm is is on the same plane as his shoulders, also at the top with his driver his left knee comes out of the box much more than his right knee goes back the inverse of what happens with his iron swing.

Nicklaus also lifted the heel. Makes it easier to coil. There were others. Early Hogan before his accident, for example.

His left leg is very very active. Takes a lot of weight off of it on the backswing. Then his left knee slides way forward while swinging. For having a lot of motion he sure stays in the same place.

It doesn't seams like the second video was taken directly behind him more from a bout 5 feet to right, that changes all angles.

I'm not sure about getting your shoulders nice and steep. I always liked Paul Way's swing where he effectively just rotated around his spine. The reverse C through impact, which has gone a bit out of fashion. will naturally pull your head down through impact. That is the only vertical thing that should be happening in the golf swing in my opinion. Once you start chagning angles from your addrerss position, the more things that can go wrong!

Teach people about Impact, Wayne. It's been proven from Miller Barber to Arnie to Ray Floyd that you don't need to be in the textbook positions to hit the ball effectively. Impact, pal...

Why do you think he stood so far away from woods and then seemed to be in so close? Room on the up? It's such a big difference like you say
@wdefrancesco
@wdefrancesco 2 жыл бұрын
I always teach standing farther from the ball with the driver because an ascending impact is delivered with the hands in relatively the same place as they were at address in relation to the ball, meaning the shaft is not forward leaning and the hands have not yet gone left and up like they do when striking a descending blow with an iron. I like the left arm to feel lightly against the body but extended at impact with the driver for maximum speed, but to strike a solid iron the shaft must lean somewhat forward, which means the hands will have already swung in an arc to the left with the handle moving upward. At that point the hands are closer to body than they were at address, so in order to hit the sweet spot they have to start closer to the body at address.

Palmer kept the right side soft and swung with the left. Similar to Bobby Jones.

If you slice the club face is ALWAYS open to the path. So it is an open face.
@danielreckman
@danielreckman 9 жыл бұрын
sonicdeviant not if your path is too steep/over the top. ball can start left of the target line and slice. That is not possible with an open face. You're referring to a push
@sonicdeviant
@sonicdeviant 9 жыл бұрын
No, it's always open to SOME PATH to create left to right curve, regardless of where the ball starts. If the face is pointing left but the path is FURTHER left, the face is still open to the path, even though the face is pointing left at impact. Hence, pull-slice. If that same face position at impact has a path that's closer to 0-deg in relation to the leftward pointing face, the ball flight will start left but will have less and less slice. Eventually when path and face are zeroed out, the ball will pull dead straight. Keep the path moving right of the face (face closed to path) and the ball will start pull-hooking.

If most amateur-hacker golfers slice (because of an open club face), why wouldn't we benefit from being more closed at the top? (ala Joe Dante)

@wdefrancesco The announcers are addressing millions of couch potatoes ....Trying to make telecast entertaining for them. That little pain for the golfer and maybe there loved ones come with the territory. I choose to defend the viewers who are watching the golfers being criticized making thousands if not millions. Side note ... Where are those golfers who had their swings ripped apart?

He won because he played Arnold Palmers game/swing. This footage in my opinion....he cut the driver....and draw the iron. You failed to comment on the very important fact....His finish position on both shots. Few people realise your finish position in fact dictate your swing. Sounds crazy.....but I read Rory recently mention that very fact.
