The best Lou ever looked was at the time he did Hercules. In his later comeback years his waist and hips just look larger than when he was young which I think is where his extra pounds came in. Arnold simply has better genetics and he was smart enough to develop his body in every way so that he had the complete package.

Jason Genova didn't look bad when he was in his best conditioning. For a short period he had abs, he just wasn't very ripped; and I don't believe he was competing when he took that random photo that showed up on the internet at one point. That's the game of bodybuilding, most people don't look their best all the time.

Remember Lou was taking HGH and IGF-1 in the early 90s and much more advanced steroids that got him to 315 lbs, but also got him the big and chunky gut. He waist used to be very small in the 70s. If Arnold had been competing in the 90s, he would have been a shredded and ripped 275 - 280 lbs since he competed many years in the 60s and 70s at 245 - 254 lbs.

No, not necessarily because Arnold was mentally extremely smart. His biggest weapon was his brain. He always knew exactly how not to push things too far so he would not have gotten carried away with the whole size thing. He would have had similar size to Cedric McMlian considering both have similar frame size and height. Arnold would not have gotten anywhere close to 300 lbs if it messed the aesthetics. He probably would not have gone over 275 lbs in order to keep the proportions, which is not that big considering much shorter 5'10" bodybuilders like Ronnie Coleman weigh 290 lbs.

@IronWarrior86
@IronWarrior86 7 жыл бұрын
A wide and distended midsection can't be avoided with the type and amount of drugs used by todays Pros. Also i don't think Arnold would have fared well with the mindset you just outlined because sadly todays judges reward freakiness and sheer size over aesthetics. Arnold has no sway over the judges. So either he would have to be content with a much lower placing or play the mass game like the others in order to win. And as we know, Arnold was famous for his iron will, going in at all costs. I'm glad Arnold came around when he did because if he was an aspiring Mr Olympia contender today he would have ruined his physique. Just look at some of the Pros who competed in the 80s with perfect blend of mass/aestethics/separation and how their physiques changed for the worse as they transitioned into the 90s and 2000s (Francis Benfatto, Gary Strydom, and probably others).

It's always funny when people make videos comparing the golden era to modern bodybuilding and they always get the measurements wrong. A lot of people like to incorrectly say Arnold was only 210-230 at 6' or 6' 1", with 19" arms at his best, and this happens because they get their information from a different uploader and everyone ends up playing telephone causing a tornado of misinformation. Thank you, Nick, for actually doing the research and getting the facts straight and holding yourself to a standard.

Yeah, Arnold was just so aesthetic. Even a small detail like his lower abs are complimentary to creating his aesthetic figure because they are sunken and flat. Not to mention the standout body parts like chest and biceps and the fullness of the the muscle bellies. Just an awesome presentation that he worked hard to achieve and present as best he could.

Arnold's most muscular looks better than Lou's. Lou's best back might be comparable to Arnold's, and possibly beat him. Super thick backs weren't needed in the 70's - not much competition. Franco butchered the competition with his back and chest though.

1974 Arnold is the best bodybuilding physique of all time. Despite his massive size he gives nothing away in aesthetics or separation. Nobody else has come close to that. What's more impressive is that he achieved this in the 1970s and never really achieved his best as he retired so young.

Lou owes Arnold a ton of gratitude. When Richard Kiel didn't work out for the role of the Hulk, the producers offered the role to Arnold. When Arnold declined the role. it was Arnold that recommended Lou for the role of the Hulk. So who knows how much stardom if any outside of bodybuilding would Lou have really had, had it not been for Arnie.

Arnold will always be king of Body Building. We could all say if Arnold didn't leave, he'd have had 10 Mr. Olympia wins. There was just no competition for Arnold because no one was on Arnolds level. Wish Nick would bring that up more when talking about Arnolds past. But i think for comparing Arnold to todays body builders its best if Arnold was at his biggest of 250lbs. Which isn't too far off than say a modern body builder at 270 to 280. It is also hard to compare Arnold because in the 70s did they even tan? They may have but its nowhere near how tan today's body builder get themselves, which helps in showing off their physiques.

That's tough. In '74 Nick talks about how Arnold blows away Lou in sheer size. So Arnold is better. Clearly Lou destroys Arnold in sheer size in '93. But Arnold is still better? I guess I don't get "aesthetics ". But then again I'm not a bodybuilder or a judge. I guess I don't have the right eye for it.

Keith Drummond alot of it is proportion. At 315 Lou's was too big. His torso dwarfed his arms and legs. Also Arnold was a much better poser. Just looking at them it seems close. They start hitting poses and Arnold smokes him easy.

You are absolutely positively spot on perfect my man..I knew 0 about bodybuilding even though I was an all state athlete in highschool and have stayed in relatively good shape all my life.lifting weights to be strong and body building are two different things.I had actually been disappointed because I'm a big Arnold fan and I read somewhere Lou had more wins.I knew nothing of the come back.i know the human body and you absolutely explain to a T how one guy is bigger than another and where.You make the choice between the 2 a fact not an opinion with your breakdown.I literally thought these competitions were a joke,an eyeball test marred by favotitisim..they should have professionals like you as well as doctors of medicine judge these competitions to decide the factual outcome..maybe even a mathematician who can take height,weight,mass,ect.and break it down by formula.ty.

Nice video! IMHO Arnold is about as tall as you can be and simultaneously carry the mass to fill out your frame while being cut. In the 70's Louie looked him best, IMHO, when he went for shape over cuts. When he tried to get deep cuts he appeared drawn. In the 90's when he came back he was big and cut, but his gut was too big (you can see it when he does a twisting pose), he lost the aesthetic lines he had in his youth. At his best, it was as his father said, "Louie, you look like something Michelangelo carved out!"

The bicep peak is important aesthetically in so many posses. Arnold had the peak Lou didn't, extra mass makes no difference if it doesn't work in balance and Arnold had the charisma and confidence that Lou just didn't.

I agree with you except you said at least twice that “Lou finished second to Arnold which is really last. “ By this reasoning, Arnold finished next to last in a class that only had two competitors. I’m not sure why you intentionally stated it that way.

Is this a fair comparison. PED's had advanced a lot from the 70's to early 90's and also the knowledge about them.

Arnold always had a great chest. Lou had great cuts but Arnold had great size.

Its pretty bad these days when people talk about Arnold as practically being the poster child for aesthetics and a classic physique.

Right on the money.... Something no one considers is that Lou Trained at Gold's with Arnold.... I believe this was his biggest mistake... Arnold was the best in his Business at mind games....and Lou was very susceptible....unlike Danny Pedilla and others....

Lucien Leja That was mostly Bullshit. They were a big family then.ou has said many times Pumping Iron wasn't true. Him and Arnold were great friends. The reason Lou never won Mr. Olympia is because he followed Arnold into acting. You only got a $1,000 for winning Mr Olympia at the time.

Seeing Lou over the years, you can see when the hgh kicked in. Just think about how big Arnold would be, if he was a competitive Bodybuilder nowadays, I think he would be looking insanely massive.
