Arnold Tutorial - How to shade a character using the toon shader in Maya

This tutorial shows how a wide variety of toon shading techniques including hue and saturation tone mapping, mask color, and silhouette. We also cover the lighting of the model. Thanks to Roman Lapiev for the use of his model.

Loving your toon shader tutorials, keep them up! If you can, please make some of these in 3ds max, I can transfer some of the Maya workflow, but I often stumble along the way, the way UI and material editor work is quite different.

Lee please help me!!! I have such a silly issue. I have Maya 2024, I am using Arnold with my GPU which is a RTX 3090. My drivers are up to date. I have read the Arnold Docs and see that SSS is supported. I know the Emperical Diffuse / Diffuse is not supported so I have tried both randomwalk and V2. I have played with every conceivable option but SSS will simply not work when I use GPU. Any input will be super amazing. Thank you Lee, kind regards, Nicholas.

1:07 there was "background (legacy) option" inside environment in previous release, where i can find that?

It doesn't exist now. You can create a skydome_light and set the skydome visibility to 0 for everything but the camera.
