leah4sci.com/EAS Presents: Aromatic Nitration Mechanism for Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution
Struggling with Orgo? Grab my free ebook '10 Secrets To Acing Organic Chemistry' here: leah4sci.com/or...
Video 4 of my EAS series takes you through the mechanism for the formation of Nitronium - the super electrophile that is attacked by benzene in the nitration reaction. This video also helps you understand the role of the acid catalyst before and during the reaction

Ahh I'm slightly confused because I eliminate the H+ at the end with HSO4- not with H2O after the elimination of the H+ I end up with my starting material again of H2SO4. Not sure if thats wrong.
@Leah4sci
@Leah4sci Жыл бұрын
H+ is equivalent to H2SO4 here in this mechanism. Just in the same way, HSO4- would be the equivalent base to H2O. My advice: always make sure you are drawing your mechanism in a way that is consistent with how your professor taught it! That's all that matters. For help with questions like this and more, I recommend joining the organic chemistry study hall. Details: leah4sci.com/join or contact me through my website leah4sci.com/contact/

Hi, why does the H+ attach on the O-H, rather than on the O - ? shouldn't the positive H be more attracted to the O- ? kind regards

hi, i was asking about the formation of the nucleophile (2:20) when the Proton adds to the Hydroxyl rather than on the negativ oxygen of Nitric acid
@AdrianDV
@AdrianDV 8 жыл бұрын
+aaa bbb I'm not so sure about this, but maybe those 2 oxygen atoms (double and single bonded) are in a resonance state so they're 'sharing' the charge and thus are somewhat stable.

puzzled how that neg. O on HNO 3 doesn't reach out for that positive H rather than a stable O with 2 bonds.
