The interviews you do are what separates you from other sailing videographers. As for this man and his adventures, all I can say is WOW !!!! Is he related to Eric Forsythe? I mean this kind of distance and adventure is beyond epic. Good for him.

somewhat belated, I know, but from experience... It is not that Japanese fishermen dislike cruisers but that most of the Japanese coast is still seen as ancient feudal estates ascribed as inheritance, & shared with great honor among the traditional coastal families. thus, the control of the various inlets and harbors goes back in an age long tradition at least from early Edo, but, sometimes going back for over a millennia to the Heian and Muromachi periods... and any development that may go against it are seen as very sensitive. for this reason, there are few city marina's... most boats are either kept on pontoons as third/fourth tier craft among the fishing fleet, or, in small marinas made out of old industrial access harbors (which were originally built on reclaimed land). also occasionally, new hotels built out on manmade islands will also have a yacht-club associated with them...

S/V Pearl Sail, I concur. Definitely the first person I've seen talking so casually about Cape Horn. Of course, he also was fairly calm about describing sailing in 60 knots of wind... And we're so glad you're enjoying the interviews. Many more to come as our time in Greenland continues! ⚓-Monique

Wow, such an amazing story and interview. So inspiring. I dream about the day I can sit back and talk about my travels like that gentleman, cruisers are so interesting. It's so true that it's the journey along the way & not the race around the world, that makes it all worth it. The places, people and cultures that you experience along the way will be ingrained in you memory forever. Drake & Mo, thank you for interviewing these great people and letting us hear their stories, this is one of the many things that separate you from all the other sailing channels. You can truly see how much these people and their boats intrigue you, as well as myself, everyone has a story, you just have to ask. Keep up the great work & be safe.

This guy is my countryman and i don't know him. I lived in Vladivostok (Russia) from 1990-95 maybe at the time he visited Japan.. I had a sailboat and sailed from Vladivostok to Niigata and some other towns down the coast. Was very welcomed all over. By the way - the cannibal family was sitting down at the dinnertable and the son complained that he don't like the neighbours - ok, said mum - eat your potatoes then.

Ha! I love that you included a joke! I'll have to try to remember that. (✿◠‿◠) Oh how cool, you were just across from Japan! So you were sailing in Japan during the early 90's? How did you enjoy your time there? Any not-to-be-missed places you could recommend? We're years away from sailing to Japan, but I'm already dreaming! ⚓-Monique

Hey Barry, right now it's just Drake and I aboard the boat as we madly try to get through our list before the cruising season starts once again here in the north of Scotland. And, of course, editing Season 5. We're actually going to take it a bit easy this summer. We'll be sailing to the Faroe Islands, but just hanging around there instead of heading for Svalbard or other far away places. This means instead of stopping out editing for the summer we will, instead, continue Season 5 until its conclusion. Very excited about this new plan for the year and can't wait to share our adventures in Greenland! Cheers (✿◠‿◠) ⚓-Monique

Fantastic conversation. And the routing on the map is great. Thank you for putting in the effort Drake and co. Any chance you can tell us the type of boat it was? Guessing a Hallberg Rassy but which model? Cheers
@drakeParagon
@drakeParagon 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Jolie, Jan's boat, it is a 1996 Hallberg-Rassy designed by Germán Frers. Quite beautiful, comfortable, and incredibly fast! Ah, I was so impressed by the 170-180+ nautical miles a day they were sailing in the Pacific. Paragon can only dream of such speeds. I've included a link to Sail Boat Data to give you a bit more info. As for the map, so glad you like it! That's part of the reason the video was a bit later this week. I think the animation took Drake close to 4 days to complete, but we think it was very worth the time. However, we've just gotten in a new computer to replace one that died and, as Drake says, it is WICKED fast...very much hoping it will speed up our editing time! ⚓-Monique sailboatdata.com/sailboat/hallberg-rassy-39

Interesting Guy, obviously a very experienced cruiser, with the required funds and one of the finest, most revered and recognisable cruising yachts, there are a few boats that I would sail anywhere including the Southern ocean, Halberg Rasseys' are pretty much top of that list. I'm pretty sure we all dream of owning a Halberg Rassey, I certainly do
