Sue them ASAP. Everything they did was illegal and you will get plenty of compensation. Arrested because you might... is NOT a crime. Do NOT use the police for your complaint. Just register to take them straight to civil court within 6 months (the time limit). The case can be heard later. You just need to find a solicitor in Scotland. HNK are great in Englan but I don't think they cover Scotland, but they might be able to suggest a solicitor to use.

Please understand that most police in Scotland are still operating under a feudal mentality where the first concern is to honor a landlord. Ordinary people are treated like peasants that if necessary need to be cleared off the land. Unlike in England no clauses were ever in force from the Magna Carta that relate to Scotland. This land is still very much an English colonial outpost filled with peasants that know very little about freedom. I've lived in Edinburgh for 50 years and know this is the truth, freedom of photography in Scotland, you must be joking my English cousins. 😮

So, complain to the IOPC, but also make sure to make a civil claim against the copper that lied to demand your details, and then to arrest you. That was as clear a breach of your Human Rights as you'll ever see. Terrible, terrible policing. Get him out of the Service now, before he ruins people's lives. [Edited to add: Oh wow! What a scandal that these officers are abusing the law and arresting a citizen. They have no legal reason for this and they should be punished. I hope the citizen files a lawsuit against the officers personally and I hope they are punished and ordered to pay substantial compensation. I also hope that this auditor has good people around him who can help him file a lawsuit. I live in Scandinavia so I can't do much but I can share this and I would encourage everyone to expose these criminal cops - because that is what it is.
